Guild Wars 2

My guild has taken on weekly 1v1 sPvP tournaments using a custom arena. I main a Mesmer (the only class I know inside and out) and there are a couple of strong dueling builds for that class. It seems like everyone is starting to bring Mesmers traited for Prismatic Understanding to the party though. So I wanted to switch it up and bring my Ele. I know far less about this class though.

Does anyone have any suggestions for builds for this kind of thing? It seems condition removal and AoE for those pesky Mesmers/Thieves are pretty high priorities for this. (Though we’ve got a few talented Warriors and Engineers that show up too.)

S/D is typically regarded as the duelist weaponset for ele. In pvp I would go with a fresh air set up, either 0/30/0/20/20 or 0/30/0/10/30. I’d go with a valkyrie amulet and zerker jewl, and basically you’ll be maintaining fury by quick attunement swaps and criting all the time. D/D can also do this too, but you lose the scepters toughness boost and blinds/lighnting strikes.

Watch out for Mesmer’s. Be cautions on high boon builds as many thieves run S/D in 1v1 situations (boon stealing). Mesmer’s, Ranger (spirit) and Thief (S/D).

Most other builds I don’t have too much trouble with. Though I went down so quickly to a power ranger yesterday (the red one)

Ah, these are useful starting points! Thank you both I was considering a Fresh Air S/D, so good to know I’m on the right page here. I’ll put together a test build or two and test it tomorrow. If I have more questions, I’ll come back here.

The Mesmers I’m not too concerned about. They are wicked tough duelists, but I know the class well enough that I hope to counter easier than most. I wasn’t aware of the boon-stealing from Thieves though.
