Has anyone ever thought of this:
A staff Elementalist who has traited into Arcane Surge:
Based on your current attunement, arcane skills cause a condition to foes that they hit.
Fire Attunement -Burning: 5 s (1640 damage)
Water Attunement- Chilled: 3 s
Air Attunement- Blind: 5 s
Earth Attunement- Immobilized: 1 s
This Staff Elementalist could drop down a Meteor Shower, switch into Earth, and pop Arcane Power.
This would immobilize anyone who gets hit by a meteor shower and prevent them from escaping.
Arcane Power procs for each hit or negated attack, so against any sizable group (in WvW for instance) it would be spent almost immediately and would likely only immobilize 5 players for 1 sec each. Might help to guarantee those few hits, but I don’t think it’s worth the loss of a utility slot or Evasive Arcana. In that situation, I think it would better to focus on making good use of CC skills in combination with Meteor Shower, like Static Field and Frozen Ground.
1v1 I’d say Elemental Surge would be more effective when used selectively.

Something like this? Not sure if it stacks, but has 150% endurance regen potential.
Actually used that trait for a couple of weeks when roaming with a small group as staffie.
Pretty good with earth signet for locking down hapless fleeing people.
Entirely unreliable on larger scale though.

I don’t think endurance regen stacks, though it would be awesome if it did. I think it’s like speed buffs – only the highest one applies. If endurance regen buffs did stack, warriors could use signet of stamina, eat endurance regen food, and possibly even get vigor and really never run out of dodges.
I was actually theorycrafting a wvw havoc squad ele build at the start of the wvw season and the Arcane Power/Arcane Retribution/Elemental Surge combo really intrigued me. Unfortunately I don’t have enough wvw friends on my server to test it out
Well, the new healing skill is going to be arcane as well.
I hope it’s as OP as the warrior one my guildmates are going on about. But knowing Anet, it means that when you use the Arcane skill you’ll burn/chill/blind/immob yourself.
Where does one see these new Healing Skills?
Well it heals based on number of people it hits. Hooefully has no aoe cap. Knowing anet it will heal for 3k base and an additional 500 per hit. 5 man cap. 40s cd
I can’t link to them because it would just get my post deleted (threads about the new heals on these forums have been deleted already) but… Reddit knows all.
An arcane healing skill, eh? That could make for some interesting new options…

Was thinking the same thing. I’ve been trying to make an arcane build work for some time now…this new skill could finally get me out of Evasive Arcana (even though it’s so much fun).

Earth signet is very good now with e3 so we are talking about a near 5 second lock down. not to mention the 180 tuff buff
Here’s a build idea that has entertained me for a while but I haven’t actually done anything with.
This is a 100% condition duration build with the thought of focusing on disruptions rather than condition damage through the use of elemental surge in various attunements. Feel free to play around with the stats and weapons if you think they should be adjusted. (they probably need it)
With the new heal i think you can make a fun melee ele due to aoe chill and burn. The build i am working on atm.
The new heal would be the heal not what is there now and diamond skin will just be that and the 20% cd i am not sure if you go +10% toughness over it.

if this new healing skill has its cooldown anywhere above 20, it cant even begin to compete with ether renewal.
Given the range on it (1200 range, seriously?? I know that new skills are good and they should shake things up, but a lot of these healing skills are just plain overpowered), it could be very strong in pvp. Chaining it with [Arcane Wave] would not only be substantial instant-cast damage (nonsense), but it would also inflict at least 2 seconds of immobilize to foes within a 360 radius of the elementalist.
If we’re talking [Meteor Shower] here, there’s no issue to an elementalist casting [Meteor Shower], following it up with a [Lightning Flash] mid-cast, swap to earth and then spamming [Arcane Brilliance] and [Arcane Wave] before walking out with [Magnetic Aura] or [Unsteady Ground] up while up to 5 foes in the shower sit immobilized for at least 2 seconds while having already taken high damage from the arcane skills and possibly even [Lightning Flash].
It’s pretty stupid. Even so, I don’t see many players taking [Arcane Brilliance] over [Ether Renewal] in pvp given the condition spam meta. The only people I could see taking it would maybe be s/d spikers because it’s just more spam fodder (because we needed more, right?).
