Has anyone tried it and seen any positive result? Do the pet just take buff aoe’s that could have gone to an ally, and do they simply get stun-locked by enemy melee trains?

it’s mostly useless,
first you can’t cast it if you are not in combat, you need to have a target and your target must be alive, and last your elemental runs to your target and stomp his skill in the enemy face too far away from your zerg, dying in the process like any ranger pet

yeah zergs just eat minions in wvw, rendering most minion skills useless, unless they do damage on death, example being mesmer clones.

heavily armored ranger pet can absorb damage for a while, but putting points so deep into pets doesn’t leave much for the ranger to survive with.
