Ele... Which weapon to chose???
Are you focusing on PVE or PVP?
I use scepter/dagger for the fire burst combined with arcane blast/wave. I highly recommend dagger in offhand to get that ride the lightning on #4.
Otherwhise try dagger/dagger its a rather closecombat type of wpnbuild.

I play exclusively with staff in PvE and I find great success with this, though I have dabbled with scepter and dagger and find that all right. I prefer to keep as much distance between myself and enemies as possible.
Basically, it comes down to play style. Do you like to be close in and blast away, or do you like to kite and control your enemies?
I am focusing am not focusing on either i just want to know which weapons to use for. WVW, PVE, PVP
Well my ele is rather squishy (and prissy) so I want to keep the baddies at range as much as possible. So I use staff. I dabbled with the other weapon types a bit but for my play style staff seems to work pretty well.
Staff for PvE and WvW.
For PvP it depends..if you like support Staff. If you like mobility and mid range combat, scepter/dagger, if you like to be on your foes toes, dagger/dagger. If you want to add a little survivability use scepter or dagger in combination with Focus in your offhand.
Tell me, how do you guys kite with a staff without decent chill effects?

Is this a trick question?
For PvE I go with dual daggers for almost everything, is lots of fun to play.8) I only switch to staff in most dungeon encounters and world bosses.
The staff has quite a few skills that help kiting. Frozen Ground and Unsteady Ground are the straightforward ones, but Air can also help by giving you a speed boost, pushing foes away or stunning them.
If that isn’t enough for you, then I recommend looking into Signet of Earth/Water and see if those help you.

I didnt mean this in a mean way.
It just feels like trick question, cause Staff is the best weapon for kiting multiple mobs at the same time. All earth, water, fire and air attunements have at least one skill that provides you with means to outrun the mobs or to slow them down or stun them.
Frozen Ground, Gust, Windborne Speed, Static Field, Unsteady Ground, Shockwave, Burning retreat. Some of them in combination with combo finishers apply you speed and chills/slows to your targets. With combination of those skills you can make sure that none of the mobs ever hit you (unless the mobs are ranged..but in that case we cant really talk about kiting…)
thanks guys….
tbh ive only been playing sPvP with scepter/dagger which i do quite well in.
yesterday however o started to lvl-up again, testing the staff. I found myself in tough situations when attacking 3 mobs at a time. the awfull casting times of the staff kinda put me down on using it. I guess ill have to figure it out….

For soloing I like Scepter/dagger. For WvW or for playing in a group staff is always a good choice.
all of them. limiting yourself is absurd when you don’t have to.
For me D/D is the most fun, but when running around doing events and stuff I just use staff.
S/D is ok, but it didn’t really appeal to me.
I’m talking for strictly PVE since I don’t pvp
Scepter/Dagger all the way. Staff is good in grroups but bad for getting credit in groups. Still not a fan of dungeons, not high enough level for WvW (Maybe if I bought level 80 gear I could use it? hmm.) so Scepter Dagger is the perfect choice for me, great AoE, good single target, decent support. If I could swap out easily I’d try staff but if I get in a tough situation I end up faceplanting.
You have to choose only one?
While Ele can’t weapon swap during combat you can anticipate what sort of combat you will be engaged in and change weapons accordingly.
Staff: Great for mass mobs/players greater than 6. Good for range attacking obviously and staying safe from a distance. Also the preferred weapon for dungeons. IMHO is weak on defense.
D/D: Good for soloing and sPvP or 1v up to 3 WvW. Insane amounts of dps and defense when engaged with small groups of mobs and players. My favorite weapon set.
@Rack There’s no reason to avoid WvW until level 80. There are always players out there running in groups together. You will be fine.
I use the S/D combo. I find that I do the most damage with S/D and I use staff for certain situations in WvW.
Dual dagger is the mokittenn in my opinion, but nearly useless in PvP unfortunately…
EDIT: Umm… why is it censoring ‘most_fun’? Don’t tell me arenanet supports the use of ‘funner’. For shame arenanet… for… shame…

no one using scepter/focus?
Lots of defense. several second damage immunity AE anti projectile and whatnot.
but… i havent used dagger a whole lot. ill experiment with it more tonight.
i like harder content and focus has some pretty good defensive abilities.
Play D/D if you’re bad, play S/D if you’re good and use staff for WvW, that is all.
I like D/D, Use Glyph of storms in Earth atunement around yourself to blind and do AoE to surrounding mobs. Use your Earth elemental as meat shield, I like to start with Drake breath followed up with fire Grab, drop a ring of fire, switch to earth attunement for a magnetic grasp getting the fire aura, drop an earth quake for 3 stacks of might followed up by churning earth for 3 more stacks of might. If anything is actually left standing, which is rare, I just back up and let the Condition damage take them down while hiting them with whatever auto attack I want at that point. it all takes about 10 seconds and if you have anything that gives you fury you will drop a ton of DPS.
@Ardelin I don’t know about that whole D/D if you are bad or S/D if you are good… S/D is good if you are going with more of a Condition build cause you can wrack up bleed damage quickly.. But I find Dragon tooth to take too long and Flame strike to just be too weak.. Also with S/D I lose my Water and Air aura’s which i like using…
1vs1 weapon set : d/d ( I lose only to good mesmers ) sPvP – tPvP
hybrid weapon set : s/f ( I lose if heavily outnumbered…many single target spells) tPvP
pure nuker weapon set : staff ( Great in group, just ok in 1vs1 ) PvE – WvWvW – tPvP

You should limit yourself to weapon set suggestions …never lost vs a s/d ele when on his own, if we simply look at s/d you’ve got nothing to keep the enemy away except updraft while d/d got multiple ways to get close..and when a d/d ele get close you get wrecked
