Ele arcane spells and visuals
You literary have arcane skills on core elementalist and arcane traitline… It also seems to be quite purpleish.

Right…I am guessing that you either didn’t fully read my post or didn’t understand it.
I am aware that there ARE arcane skills. I am saying that I don’t think that there are enough of them. Nor is there an arcane attunement. Key arcane spells such as Magic Missiles are no where to be found.
Also, the icon of the arcane spells are very purple, but not so much on the spells themselves.
I guess there is no arcane attunement because arcane is not one of the four basic elements. I always thought this is a good thing, because it makes the arcane line stand out from the other 4. Weaver looks to have quite a nice synergy with arcane since you will be switching attunements a lot more!
Arcane magic is not “true source” of magic in GW lore. Nor will it be “purplish”, as purple is colour associated with Mesmer magic.
I would advise you to play Mesmer, as it seems it is much closer to that you seem to want.

I am not big on Illusion. Also, the icons for every arcane spell is purple. So either it’s not purple in the lore, and they messed up the icons, or the other way around.

I agree with you to some degree. Arcane is normally viewed as the purest form of magic. That is one of the reasons why it was always the most interesting to me. In a lot of lore, mages cast elemental spells by starting with an arcane base spell, then shaping it into the elemental form.
Anyway, I would just like to see arcane magic have a higher presence in the game for Eles.
Brilliance is blue, Shield is pink, Blast, Power and Wave are more violet than purple :P
Lore of magic in GW is much different than in D&D, arcane energy is just a part of magic, not base for all magic.
Colours purple, violet and pink were always associated with Mesmer magic. On Elementalist you have some small arcane effects, but they are mostly build around releasing pure energy (and they are mostly based on Energy Storage skills from first game).
Just look at skills from first game:

Thanks for this post. I will take a look at those links, when I get a chance to!
Like I said before, I think there is a bit of the d&d nerd in me when I look into spells and lore from other games. The rules are little more grey in guild wars than what I am used to, it seems. I am not very familiar with the lore in general. That being said, I still say ele should have more arcane spells!
Thanks for the replies, everyone. Great discussion.
These two articles are good start about magic lore in GW:
