Is an Ele specced with healing armour runes, and max traits in water with a staff, and condition removal good as a healer/CC in SPVP?

I see most poeple just run around with a theif and spam 1 and 2.

Are poeple even using healer’s in SPVP Pugs?

there are no healers in this game. there are support type builds where you buff and condition remove along with minor heals, but if you try to go full healing your not going to be very effective and honestly dead weight. If you would like a support type build i would suggest the 30 points in water for powerful auras as well as ten in air for the fury and swiftness on the auras, and ten in earth for the protection. While your at it i would suggest 10 in fire for might on cantrips, grab the other 2 cantrips in water (adds regen and vigor and the 20% cd ones) then grab at least 10 in arcane for the buffs on attunement swap. Now for the auras to be shared you need auras to cast. There is only 1 on staff (magnetic reflects projectiles) 1 on mh dagger (shocking aura stuns) 1 on offhand dagger (frost aura applys chill) and one on focus (fire shield apples burring) so you could maximize it by using d/d or d/f or staff which would be more supportive with aoe fields and finishers. basically the entire build is kinda nice in theory but since you can only have one or two of the auras 30 points for sharing is nice in a large group. Then on your 7,8,9 skills run can-trips defiantly cleansing fire and armor of earth then your choice between lightning flash or mist form. ulti usually I would suggest the elemental (cast in water) unless its a large group of enemies where tornado is nice (although if there is a Mesmer stacking confusion NEVER use tornado you will die extreamly fast). As far as runes go i would suggest mercy if you want to revive more effectively or you could try fire/earth as they give you an aura on 20% hp drop (I have not tested it this works with the traits, if it does not then don’t use these runes)

I’ve seen a good amount of people enjoy the build and think it was pretty good.

I ran a similar support build for a while and it does a very nice job of helping out on the more incoming damage intensive fights.

But yeah, don’t just sit there and spam water abilities all day because that isn’t efficient.

I gave up trying to be a killer and now play my ele as a buffer healer.
I stay in water for the cooldowns and then switch out to bring up buffs and combo fields. then switch back to water when its up again, each time you bring it up you give regen to everyone around you and remove 2 conditions… so in theory, you want to switch into water EVERY SINGLE time its up and get out of it and into ANYTHING else as fast as you can… 5 sec in water and switch, thats the best way to be a healer.

unless you are staff then you can just shoot all the mezmer pets with water spray and constantly heal your team!!

This build| may be a good supporting build that would significantly increase damage output for the party. Auras grant protection, fury, and swiftness, and you gain/give fire aura as often as you cast signets (aside from using auras on your own). Swap out Earth V for Earth II to make signets cast faster. This sacrifices protection for more damage.

I didn’t pick any skills or weapons for you. Just use this as a base.

I’d think you’d be a waste of a member if you sat in water in tourney play. I do it at the gates beside rams in WvW. It helps the team a lot. I’m always the first rezzed because people like seeing (passive) +336. I don’t even use healing gear. Weapon swap really needs to be enabled in WvW because of wall range/ melee range being so back and forth there.

One more question. I tried to roll a theif just for kicks to see how it plays in SPVP. I couldnt seem to be able to get into SPVP with a level 1 theif.

Do I need to level the toon to a certain level before SPVP option becomes available or something? If so, what level will it unlock SPVP at?

The specc with 10 points in air would be my choice for Masspvp or instances to get the lower cooldown on elementals and Glyph of Storms.

It can work, provided you don’t just try to heal. With staff we have the best access to Water fields for AoE heal blast finishers and an easy way of applying Protection and reflect off of Earth Attunement. Using Arcane Blast and Evasive Arcana ( Procs off your dodge rolls, dodge in Fire or Earth triggers a blast finisher. You can get 3 straight AoE Heal blast finishers off of one Healing Rain at times with it as its cooldown is a bit wonky ). If you go with applying Protection on Auras and Powerful Auras, you can likewise toss out AoE Frost Armour off of Frozen Ground as well.

Mainly, you need to be mitigating as much as healing. Just healing won’t keep up.

Conversely, Dagger / Dagger healing with a similar Aura build is also pretty solid and quite tanky ( For an Elementalist anyway ) as D/D has access to 2 Auras off of weapon skills. Water D/D isn’t a slouch when it comes to heals either if on a Healing / Tough build.

The first, last and only time I was ever accused of being overpowered on Elementalist was last night on my D/D Water Ele build. >.>

  1. I was getting bubbled with auras constantly. Why is it that sometimes the auras do not apply to everyone else even though I traited for it to apply to group

. Sometimes I see the bubbles on everyone else around me, sometimes I see it on just 1 other person, sometimes it doesnt go to anybody.

If you’re really set on healing, then a staff ele is the way to go. The aoe heals from your water fields plus blast finishers are amazing.

For healing as Elementalist, I use the following.

Staff

30 Water -> Hydromancers Alacrity, Cleansing Water, Cleansing Wave

30 Arcana -> Blasting Staff, Elemental Attunement, Evasive Arcana*

10 Air – > Soothing Winds

Essentially burn your water CDs as often as possible, making use of your Blast Finishers into the effects of Healing Rain and Geyser whenever you can (Arcane Blast doubles as an extra heal in this way) . Otherwise, keep your water Attunement on CD, as switching into Water will give you and nearby allies ~6 seconds of Regeneration, remove 2 Conditions and grant a decent chunk of healing.

When not healing, switching into Earth to give nearby allies the Protection is also a good move, as is going to Fire to give them an extra stack of Might.

Also keep in mind that due to the +30% Buff Duration from Arcana, the effects from Elemental Harmony which otherwise are just fun extras in some cases can actually be used to great effect, especially since they are all the same as you get from switching into that element. Going into Earth and then using it to heal and gain some extra Protection can net you roughly 7 seconds, which isn’t half bad in the defensive department.

  • I have had mixed success with Evasive Arcana, so feel free to change it out if you have little luck with it. It is the ‘optimal’ selection, however, should it be working correctly for you. As before, I’ve had mixed success with it personally.

This works expecially well in PvE or WvW, as there tend to be others around to aid ; in SPvP, this heavily relies on there being another person around to actually heal, and you will end up being fragile. I tried it out for a little while in SPvP pugs and wasn’t particularly happy with it, but I’m also not a SPvP-type either, preferring WvW and PvE.

I cannot emphasize enough though, that most importantly, know what you have to offer in all elements and use whatever is most appropriate for the moment. That’ll get you more mileage as an Elementalist in general, and with healing it’s no exception.

I can think of two resons:

  1. The number of shared auras might be limitated by a hard cap (like every AoE is capped at 5 targets – the only exception are siege weapons iirc)
  1. The automatic special effect reducing algortithm kicks in and not every aura applied is actually visible. I play GW2 on a notebook at the lower end of the hardware requrements and sometimes only one or two auras are visible. But when I click on the allies, I can see the aura (plus swiftness, fury and protection) in their buff list.
I can’t wait until ANet releases the game promoted in the manifesto.
Until that, I’ll play GW2.

Another night last night of fun Ele SPVP sessions. I am loving Spvp now so much that I am neglecting leveling my toon up in WvW.

A few more questions;

1. Acessories and rings – I dont see that the Pvp vendors selling those items. Just the amulet. So can you use a ring or accesory? What about the back slot? If the Pvp vendors dont sell those items, where do i get them? Can I just buy some lvl 80 stuff off the trading post and use that? Or is that only for PVe?

Spifnar – I totally agree. When I started this thread, I was maily full on heals, ignoring the buff/debuff aspect. Now Im throwing out all kinds of buffs /debuffs / slows /stuns in addition to heals and it really helps the group. As soon as the group figures out anytime they are near me, they are getting all kinds of buffs and aura bubbles, as well as heals, and that the enemy is getting lockedin place -the group becomes much more focused and tight knit, rather than all split up.
