You come here complaining about a class being OP yet you say thieves are balanced and easy to counter….
If a 14k BS is balanced to you, and a bunker is OP, me and you are both playing different games.
I agree, mesmers are fine, warriors are a tad OP (HP + DPS wise… i am levelling an alt warrior…i seem to be having a much easier time levelling that than i did with my ele, i am also building my war to 29k HP with constant dips…not died yet unless you count jumping off cliffs as dying to mobs)

Engineers got nerfed due to people saying it was OP, now look at it….OVERNERFED.
eles have to deal with BROKEN traits and so many bugs with alot of spells ie RTL, magnetic Grasp, Arc lightning, Fire grab etc
As for sPvP, i don’t do it, too many whiners and repetitive mode makes it dull and not fun.
A net need to separate spvp, wvw & pve builds so to not make a class feel uncomfortable and unfun to play.

This build is not “on par” with anything, it sets the standard that nothing else reaches.
I understand that outside of this build, ele’s are somewhat of a joke, that does not, in any way, shape, or form, make this build any less over powered.
Its like saying class X has 2 builds that are viable, class Y has 1.
Class Y build should be twice as good to compete with class X.
No, it’s not because this is setting a standard. While this is indeed a strong build and I can see why some people might want it tweaked (but only tweaked, not destroyed), it is indeed one of our only serious pvp worthy builds atm, the other being full bunker (and trait wise, that’s fairly close to being the same thing.) That’s why people are defending this build so much, they’re afraid that if anet listens to forum whiners, it’ll get nerfed as hard as our other historic nerfs, and we’ll back to having no viable builds.

You mean that “split” second that’s additionally mitigated by culling/rendering? So in fact you have WAY more time to keep DPSing your target because they can’t even see you. And what reflexes are required to press 3 buttons (Steal, C&D, BS) followed by 222222. Honestly thieves have more room for error than other professions and to claim it takes some degree of skill to slap on a full zerker set, and press no more than 5 buttons to be effective is borderline ludicrous.
I got chatting to a player yesterday who was bragging about his skill on thief, he was running your typical instagib build, was bragging about nuking players in seconds and he’d been playing a thief for…30 minutes :P Guess what his rotation was….(see above)

Pls go and play a full glass cannon ele and no the bunker build against some bad players who keep using the auto-attack while you’ve got frost aura up, the auto-attack spamming done by many it’s really effective in the glass cannon case as you get from 100% HP to 10% Hp in 2s

So you just found the basics to be basic.
I guess cero was referring to how easy thieves are compared with almost anything else, since the class can be pretty rewarding with very little effort.
I would like to see the day Glass cannons are a build to play rather than bunker builds only for survivability. Glad its added and for the ones who want to play it but were a MAGE. I would like to see they actually look into fixing scepter dagger and Scepter focus a little more and hope they dont nerf Staff to much with this Aoe nerf.
Make Fire and Air traits more appealing.Make them Have some wants! Stuff that only those builds have.Your given 4 or 5 different passives you can pick up in each area of your tree out of three but only say 1 or 2 is good out of the Three differnt levels of traits. "No I dont have an exact but my point is I feel liek there is so much lack luster put in that people just dont find Air and Fire even appealing because there traits arent like the Survivability Water offers and The utility Arcane offers even though I know arcane has some lack luster Passive skills it gets too.

That’s called a glass cannon ele with hit and run tactic, unless you want to show me a build with burst/bunker capabilities.
For burst I mean 7k+ hits, because for me 3-4k hit are not burst at all, those for me are the number of axe warrior auto-atatcksThis indicates a skewed perspective if you think it’s fine for a class to have the surviveability of the ele while reliably doing 3-4k hits. My power necro can do that kind of damage in lichform for about 20 seconds. That’s it. My glass cannon engi would maybe hit around 7k on a well executed jumpshot. Factoring in static discharge—maybe a few 3k hits as part of the burst. I kill a lot of people on both toons, but I have nowhere near the surviveability or mobility of the eles I commonly see in spvp.
Comparing the swiftness engis can get through speedy kits to an ele’s speed is a joke. I’ve been on a point, standing right next to an ele and fired my auto attack, which is traited for range. Then watched the ele haul kitten away—so fast that the next auto attack misses because it can’t reach.
I don’t particularly wish to see elementalists nerfed in any way. I would much rather see the classes that are struggling get buffed. But let’s keep it real—they are that strong.
“Reliably”? Churning earth is a half minute cooldown. Fire grab even longer. Those are the only ones that can get that high, if you max your boons AND land a lucky crit.
0/10/0/30/30 with nearly all soldier and cleric gear will land most auto-attacks for under 1k, and their sustained damage is closer to those burning fields in orr.
As for people complaining about the pluses of D/D, nobody has ever mentioned the downside:
D/D has no way to stop ranged attacks. They have gap closers, but the profession they close with could swap to harder-hitting melee weapons.

Yeah gap closers like Magnetic Grasp which is so slow that can be dodged by anyone, you can go make some coffee and then come back, move a bit back and you dodge it, not to mention the fail range of the skill. But most annoyingly, one the “best” gap closers for D/D Eles is so bugged beyond help:
I remember that time when I used Magnetic Grasp to “close the gap” on a Thief, he used his shortbow evasion skill and dodged it. That wasn’t anything new, everyone can do it, funny thing is MG bugged because he dodged it and my character was bouncing back and forth between my initial position and his, no way to stop it, and of course everyone could attack me at that time, that bouncing was so hillarious I regret not capturing it on video.

The current PVP game is called conquest, you don’t have to kill, you have to capture to get points. In all the maps those said points are wide open, with a ranged attack you can stay away and the poor D/D ele has no way to fight back, even with gap closers on some cases, unless they move away from the point.
But of course, for some odd reason, everyone is only focusing on how to kill their opponent in some form of duel without using a brain.
Even some Thieves have adapted to it and don’t even try to backstab D/D Eles but instead use a Shortbow and insta win the fights (or force draws).
There is absolutely no profession in the game that can’t deal with a melee only D/D Ele, all others can switch to ranged dps at will, the D/D can’t.

But it’s not overpowered. There are serveral strong counters against your ‘meta’ bunker ele build. To name a few, trap rangers and S/D thieves. Any half-experienced s/tPvP player would know this, and this thing is not invincible as you and many other crying people here. If you just arrived from PvE with your pistolwhip thief and expect to melt bunker eles just like that, it certainly does not work.
Us bunker ele players who enjoy this style of gameplay where we can actually take damage and slowly wear enemies down, we’ll move onto other bunker builds if ele gets nerfed to the ground, such as bunker engy or guardians. Then we’ll have people crying about them as well.

95% of Eles in WvW now just do this: RTL, Updraft, BS, RoF, FG and get a kill.
That combo is just as easy and effective as C&D, Mug, BS, HS, HS.
According to your own logic this makes both Thief and Ele easy classes.
Breaking news: a cheesy gimmick inside a class does not define the entire class, nor says anything of its depth or difficulty in mastering it.

I happen to PvP a lot with Eles lately because everyone and their mother made one now.
Here is my review:
They get high burst/DPS like Thieves, and this is fine as a melee build needs high dmg.
They get mobility on par with Thieves, and this is also fine because melee needs mobility.
They get high damage resistance through Earth buffs, and that is fine too because otherwise they would last nothing (Thief for instance has stealth to make up for squishiness).
What is not fine is the ability to recover crazy amounts of health on top of all the above.
Against Eles, the fight is pretty even and we both get close to death, at which point they heal up for tons of amounts – and this is unacceptable.
Long story short, I don’t want to see your damage gone (Anet seems to want that with all the AoE nerfing claims), nor mobility nor resistance – but I’m tired that you can reset a fight completely.
That sort of thing reminds me of WoW.
In GW2 the rule of thumb is that we get one heal, and other heals are just minor things – there will not be any sort of healer they said – and they need to fix this.
Once you use your heal skill and your health is depleted you escape or die – you don’t magically refill your healthpool like a WoW Paladin.

This is a good point, which highlights our recurring problem: the vast majority of eles are speccing bunker. If there were more viable builds, we’d have less x/x/x/30/30 eles, and people would eventually stop seeing it as overpowered too as players learn to counter them well and share those methods. (like 100b burst)
I’ve already started leveling a warrior.
If they nerf D/D ele to the point it breaks the build (which is THE most fun build to play in pve IN THE GAME), I will build an all cleric’s bunker warrior, spread the build, and once my build becomes abused enough, i’ll be asking ANet what was so op’d about D/D. By that time, everyone and their dead grandmothers will be lining up for the nerf-warriors choo-choo, and posting the “i regret nerfing eles” threads.
I started this game about a month ago as an Ele because i liked the advertised playstyle, ranged thought-out combat, glass cannon style, typical mage in mmo’s. what i got was a half baked idea of a ranged squishy whos survival was a complete joke and a pea shooter for a main weapon (staff) so i did my research and i found DD. this to me sounded sensible, as i could actually survive a few hits. i am by no means a pro, just your average user, and i find this DD quite hard to play, ive tinkered with other classes and found them easier to manage.
I will say this, Ele’s need to have viable Glass cannon builds, and Viable Ranged builds, becuase currently, even with traits its poor, im suprised i dont get laughed at when im packing a Staff for tower fights. Do i like the Playstyle of DD, not a great deal, but ive adapted, i would prefer that the Ele was as is advertised, a Primarily Ranged Support and Aoe Class. and FYI avoiding a Thief for the average joe isnt as simple as it seems, i can get bursted down in under 3 seconds and if my Oh Kitten buttons are on CD im royally screwed, oh and in my Experience RTL as a means of running away is dodgy at best, if theres a target in range whichever direction im facing, even if behind i zap to it instead of running away (even if i have nothing targetted) this may be because im doing it wrong, but claiming RTL in my personal experience as the Ace get out of jail free card is over-rated, excellent gap closer for an Air 4-5 combo tho. i will say healing is quite handy on it, and ive gone from 10% hp to 100 in mere seconds so mebbe tone it down, usually involes Switch to water > Water 2-5 then dodge roll for the trait heal. but i do dislike taking an age to kill anything because Ele damage in any spec ive tried is lackluster at best and pea-shooter at worst. Change this, give Eles viable builds other than 0/10/0/30/30 DD please lol.

You have invisibility. Eles get to heal, you have invisibility. use it to your advantage. Break combat in invis and come back to kick kitten That’s how it works for me.

Eles were created around boons. There’s a reason why they have the lowest amount of hp and defense – they make up for it through boons. To solve the issue of spaming boons and bring some incentive for wise usage of them anet should give more boon removal/stealing abilities and some players should start using sigils, they were created for some reason.

Best mobility? They have similiar mobility to greatsword warrior and shortbow thief. Sustained pressure is the result of anet nerfing damage of ele by about 40% before launch plus eles deal condition through fire and earth attunements.
Protection/regen – check hp/defense.
Now, I’m all for nerfing bunkers but do it wisely to not destroy other less used builds.

I don’t want to go back to a long range staff build (especially if they’re nerfing aoes across the board), but focus is pretty worthless for WvW, and most of the skills with “insane burst”on d/d are on the offhand.
churning earth: 5k damage on a crit on a 4 second channel in melee range, which most people have learned to dodge in WvW even after the ele uses lightning flash to move back into range after they WALK out of the circle (not sure why spvp people can’t handle learning to dodge) = insane burst? [sarcasm]yup, sounds like insane burst to me[/sarcasm]
A good (read as: lucky) thief could down me through 1800 toughness and 20k hp before churning earth even finished casting. If I forget to use armor of earth (or it’s still on cooldown) all it takes is a stun/fear/knockback/daze/etc. from anyone and my channel is cancelled and churning earth goes on cooldown.
Before anyone freaks out about me bringing wvw into this, this is the elementalist forum, not the spvp forum. And a proposed blanket nerf to d/d elementalists and AoE in general would affect us everywhere (not just in spvp) unless they finally wise up and realize they need to split skills for spvp and wvw/pve (and possibly even split between wvw and pve) if they ever hope to balance spvp without killing the rest of the game.

First of all, watch past streams (check the thread in ele forums for it)
Developer goes D/D glass cannon (sPvP).
He mentions mobility throughout the stream & specifically says “gank” “hit and run” “hitting things from the side”.
That is what a D/D ele is, a gank me mobility set.
It comes down to coordination and catching people off guard.
Now as for mobility…
Warrior Great sword > sword/War horn weapon switch, the mobility is by far higher than a D/D ele and is much longer distance (i am using this set whilst levelling, i am having a MUCH easier time levelling a war than my ele)
As for survivability what’s that?
D/D ele in PvE is superior for levelling if you are new to the class, will take sometime to master but you wont die as often as a GC spec whilst levelling = Slightest breeze wont kill you.
I am more concerned for new players playing an ele, they will more than likely shelf the ele and go for another class as we know every other class has BETTER survivability than the ele.
As for arena net, if they nerf D/D then i will be disappointed that they nerfed it whilst contradicting themselves as well as not known the class AT ALL…even more so, this was their problem from the start and nerfs caused this making the class worse than it should be…
But i then look at the engineer and my hope dies.

I play s/d and d/d ele and I know that d/d bunkers built correctly are too op, that’s why I’m all for nerfing bunkering capabilites. However, that doesn’t mean eles as the whole proffesion needs nerf. Try playing burst ele with d/d or s/d and tell me how exactly it’s op.

haha mesmer is the most over nerfed class since game was launched so i doubt that. The only thing that will make me QQ (A LOT) is if they change (nerf) Deceptive Evasion. Don’t care about shatter damage decrease and if they do they better give us aoe skills because shatter is all we have.
The healing of an ele seems bigger, because we have low base health to begin with, and most know to get + healing on gear, because the alternative is too often fatal. With a 20k health pool, it would look quite different.

So completely nerfing water is where it’s at now is it?? Honestly the nerf ele bandwagon has certainly gained momentum!! I have NO PROBLEM killing D/D Ele’s, maybe learning how to counter that predictable spec is too much for you??

I play a dagger ele, not because it’s powerful, but because I like it. And I don’t play the bunker build for the exact same reason, but I’ve attempted dozens of other builds in SPvP, nothing else works, this is our only build and it is to some degree overpowered. But that doesn’t change the fact that it’s pretty much our only option for SPvP, and if they wreck it without buffing anything else, they might as well remove our class from PvP.

As a matter of fact, the mesmer along with the thief are the only profession which have received a huge buff before release, on top of my head I can rememeber:
-50% HP increase of clones and illusion
-dmg buff
-traps buff
-venoms buff
-dagger storm buff
-HS buff
The only professions which have received huge nerfs since and before launch are ele, necro and engineer, I got numbers-videos and links to threads as proof of what I’m saying, can you say the same for your claim that mesmer is the most nerfed profession in this game?
If the 0.25 GCD and bug fix for the might stack trait are considered nerfs by you…I dunno what to say really

I won’t talk about thieves because its not a class i play but if you think mesmers had a damage buff no just no. Back in BW mesmers phantasms were waaaaaaaay more powerful than they’re now (cuz they were actually attacking more than once per century), since 15th November even tho anet says its fine the iZerker misses lots of it attacks, dies on spawn and im not even talking about the stupid thing anet added that fails to spawn illusions on invul/while blinded/blocked/dodged. I would be fine with them adding LoS if it wasn’t THAT poor. How many hundreds of times i got “target obscured” when there’s absolutely nothing on the field but grass and that gives me a full CD on phantasms…

That’s not my point. My point being is no matter what kind of damage your opponent have, you can always get out of LoS with vapor and fully regen. Thief/Mesmer damage won’t be doing much if they can’t reach you. All you have to do against any class but warrior is, start spamming skill 1 (yes the useless one), your enemy will be spamming his, you both will be taking damage, couple of sec of spamming skill one just vapor form out LoS and you instantly win because you have your full downed HP and your enemy >50%.
