I have a staff ele I would like to customize for dungeons and fractals. She will need to use a staff since her most powerful weapon is a Mathilde’s Spire (dire ascended). Any suggestions?

Thx

I run 30/10/10/10/10.
With a few major trait adjustments you can either run the Lava Font Staff build or a conjure build. Afaik you’ll lose ~10% damage compared to the most damaging LH build and ~7% damage compared to the most damaging Lava Font build, however you gain permanent Vigor due to your 10 points in Arcane Power.

I haven’t played an Ele in fractals yet, though.

I have wondered why so many recommended ele builds avoid points in fire traits. Good to see someone else using some fire. Fire has worked for me bringing my 3 eles thru their stories and map completion, but leaving fire traits out of the build has not worked very well. I am used to lava font and use conjured weapons only as firey gs in WvW.

This dungeon ele has a focus on condition damage and toughness because of her staff, but I could rebalance the rest of her gear. For example, I have heard eles can have a major impact on healing allies especially in WvW but I don’t know how much that would apply in dungeons.

Everyone doing PvE uses zerk. It’s especially important in high-lvl fracs. Use one of the specs in the link below:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/elementalist/The-Ele-Meta-Dungeon-Speed-Runs/first#post3112677

If you scroll down to the 3rd and 4th posts, there is a staff spec, but you should really use the S/D + LH spec because it’s better at might stacking (which according the most players, is always the ele’s job). Since your ascended staff isn’t zerk, you’d do better using exotic zerk S/D anyway.

Thanks for the advice, Anierna. I will use the acended staff I have for now. I need the toughness and vitality at this stage anyway, and trying to use condition damage on a staff effectively should be good practice.

I don’t understand why you want to worry so much about damage when using a staff. The reason people “avoid” fire traits is because we don’t have any “use” for it when we support our team. It surely are good traits if you’re one of those ele’s who stay in fire 80% of the time though.

Condition isn’t too great on an ele. Surely we do condition damage, and you can get some condition stat, but you’ll gain more by focusing on normal damage output.

Conditions on Staff Ele are terrible.

I’d suggest reading my guide if you want info on building an Ele for dungeons.

There is not a good published condition ele build + rotations out yet for PvE, so just go for direct damage. Go for zerk trinkets at a minimum and either celestial or knight’s armor, working your way to full zerk.

If you want to run staff, go with http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/85568-lh-is-the-new-bearbow-the-real-staff-dps-build-for-manly-men/… unfortunately all the support and control that the staff has to offer really doesn’t do well in PvE, so you just want to make big numbers happen while in fire attunement.

I still use a lot of exotic weapons on a daily basis – a lot of them have sigils for specific purposes and those sigils (i.e. a sigil of undead slaying) adds more DPS than the stat + damage boost of an ascended weapon (2.5%ish for a one-handed weapon, 5% for a two-handed). So don’t feel like you have to use staff all the time. Scepter/Dagger + LH or Dagger/Focus are both VERY viable sets, and Neko’s, Zelyhn’s, and Hamartia’s guides do a great job at explaining how to play them.
