Hey all!

Last balance patch was pretty uneventful for ele, save for arcane power. So I figured it was finally time to learn to play elemental surge a bit. Every now and then it worked out, so here’s a video.

As always criticism and questions more than welcome.

The other arcain skills are realty behind atm only arcane power makes elemental surge worth it.
Being able to land root lets you get free shots in. If you do it right arcain power with a group of a few others you can nearly perma root ppl letting you land a full rotation.

In EU wvw yes casual in NA wvw no. The Tank DPS or condi meta or corrupt is way too powerful. But I love the video and music and happy it works wonders 1v1 or 1v2 in EU.

Thanks! To me core fresh air is better than tempest in most scenarios nowadays. With elemental bastion, gale song and quite a few air overload nerfs I don’t see much reason to have to go tempest anymore (thank god)

I’m not sure what the difference is to NA, but I find core fresh air in general is a pretty good pick when the tryhard levels rise. Just because it’s by nature able to stay out of so much of the crazy stuff that flies around. Stuff like D/D ele or any sort of tempest, has to deal to some extent with whatever’s around. S/F fresh air just superspeeds out of melee 100% of the time, keeps up good projectile immunity uptime and can actually hurt tanky condi builds before it runs out of blinds/invuln/cleanses.

Video is pretty cherry picked to show the closer fights, but I find a lot of trailblazers or sustain players as well, and when I do I’m usuallly glad I’m not on D/D.

I tried roaming core FA today, for many (many) hours.

I am pretty happy about it, it just worked nicely. I do find some condi spec a bit too much to handle, but hey I don’t have to 1v1 em at all costs.

Love the Arcane power root combo.

Most of all the gameplay is pretty fun, as much as I actually like Tempest, it got pretty boring.

I was running Air/Earth/Arcane tho.

Glad to hear. I pretty much havent touched earth since the cdr trait nerfs and the glyph heal buff. There’s not many power matchups you lose to anyway, so might as well go water. It has a pretty respectable amount of cleanse with the glyph in water and water 3 granting regen and thus cleanse. Idk I heard others say they can’t miss earth cd’s anymore after having played it so long. I guess I kinda forgot what they were like (though not having earth 2 every time can be a kitten).

Ya sadly power dmg is still weak in wvw there just too much “take 0 dmg” and over all power dmg mitigation. Ele one of though classes who have nearly no anty dmg mitigation too so it becomes a 2 fold hit to the class. The best trick is the bate out the long ish cd and if they do aim to block swap to fire and try to land a phoenixes.

I am actually running Signet of Restoration still. With Written in Stone from Earth.
With the spammy nature of the spec, I feel like the HPS it’s pretty much on par if not better than Glyph. I don’t remember atm so might be wrong, but I do not think there’s an icd on it…
But It’s also true that I am using a trait to make it so.

I kinda feel like Im naked when I ran the Glyph.
Should probably give it another go and use DiamondSkin/StoneHeart instead, or try the Water variant.

I do feel like Earth is as good as water tho, it’s basically Power defense vs Condi defense.
While condis are quite a problem these days, I must say that when roaming I still meet lots of power builds(which may not even be roamers) and especially many thieves , and when more than a power player hits on you the 10% less dmg received / free Earth of Armor / 40 sec invuln really helps me staying alive.

This is a great example of great gameplay. Arcane power testing aside, this video helped me recognize my own weaknesses with sc/f.

signet vs glyph heal

depends on situation and class u encounter.

one of the good things of sevens dd ele build is the boonduration right? u dont have that on sf usually. but glyphs are the offensive approach of arcana line. both – arcana and glyph together – kinda substitude boonduration. vs power u prolly want to prolong protection on you, so you heal in earth and vs condi classes you gain an extra clearance in water.

the heal might by slightly better with signet but signet isnt good vs classes who spike you but glyph is.

with glyph heal up you can also didge earth line and chose water line which is arguably better in this condi meta.

but in the end its about how you feel on it. just my thoughts on why glyphs arnt bad at all and why i also use them.

An yes earth is mostly to defend against those thiefs that are omnipresent in WvW ….I actually developed the build to survive against them ….

I wanted to try a S/F condi build, but didnt get to it.

Does it use Stone Heart by any chance? because I wanted to try something around that.

BTW: I have succesfully upgrade to Glyph+Water for my roaming build lol. It does work great, I am actually surprised at the kind of condi clear that now I have.

The thing is it works with a lot of combinations. Water if you want the save healing path, air has nice options with traited glyphs. Earth gives savety against power builds and fire damage. Arcane is a bit of all and more fluid…. Fire is hardest to land full damage on players. Also the rune and gear can vary ….
What i prefer is keeping about 2600 armor and 15k life and rest i use mostly viper.

One version i played a few month ago:
This version is very hard for power builds but dies to condi mesmers …
It´s lifedrains are anoying to deadly.

Currently i experiment with antitoxin rune. Also using air instead of arcane has its nice points but not using arcane feels a bit sluggish :-/. and using durability rune with arcane is one of the sweetest options ….
