Elementalist Damage

If he was doing good damage, he probably had a berserker amulet (assuming sPvP) or Power Toughness Vitality armor with berserker accessories in WvW.
If he was doing mediocre damage, he probably used a soldier amulet, or PVT armor with Sapphire or Emerald accessories in WvW.
This build and ones generally close to it are the current standard build for eles outside of pure glass or pure bunker spec. Your auras, in addition to their own very strong effects, proc fury, swiftness and protection.

I’dd like to check some things out.
2day met a realy awsome elementalist, as ussualy i was not expecting any collosal damage, however his RTL, updraft + some third skill combo chained 10k + burn that would take off some 2-3k damage of my life.As having 16k hp,(mind that im a thief with 16k hp and 2500 armor is not a full glass cannon) i found it amusing. While combo was dodgable, if it hit you withouth stunbreaker, i would end up toasted. He also had considerable survival, and often protection.
I’d like to test that build out for myself, however i got no idea which one it is. Could you please post supposed build here ?
^_^ I have been testing a jack of all trade build that may have been fighting you today… It is more a theory-craft build, but it is pretty versatile. Decent damage and a little bit of survivability.
I can keep up decent damage, fury, protection, swiftness, some regen / vigor, etc.
Was the name Otaur Blackfang ? If so I can give you my test spec.
Been noticing a lot of Auramancer’s popping up, i think Elementalist is becoming the new Flavor of the Month.

I definitely agree with Otaur. Elementalists are getting looked at differently because of the experiments people are doing with them. Honestly, that build could have been anything. I run 30 Fire, 30 Arcana, 10 Water and I do as much damage as the Ele you’re describing, if not more. You can still run whatever build you desire and still achieve decent damage. One of the more popular ele builds has already been mentioned by Caffynated. Based on your description, I’d say the build Caffy described is the one you’re looking for. Good luck
The build I run gives me even offense and defense, however I lack the condition removals from water. I can change up the cantrips give vigor and regen, but then I lose out on the regen and gain an extra condition removal. However atm, i am relying on the Cleansing cantrip to remove 4 at once, and get out of bad situations (RTL).
I gotta say i rly dont even have a problem with damage. I run scepter/dagger and easily take out most classes, except kitten stealth specced thiefs(Burn in hell). You really just have to practice and have the correct armor/runes to make a big difference. Spent a bit of time testing different builds, theres only 2 i have liked. Both of which are scepter/dagger.

I hate mesmers as much as i do thieves… Thieves atleast die in a few hits, mesmers just keep disappearing and summoning those kitten clones, or distortion or use sword evade attacks… Quite a pain

All I see anymore are D/D aura ele’s and/or some variant of that spec in sPvP and WvW, and the occassional staff holdover in WvW.
It’s a sad commentary on the state of the class. Basically, since the EA nerf D/D is easily the most viable weapon set (since staff AOE isn’t SO impressive, no more blast finishers mean no more might stacking and uberhealing/support, and the scepter just kittens), so we all run it.
Based on recent experience, this means D/D is in line for a nerf (and a reasonable argument could be made that it’s on the overpowered end of the spectrum when used by highly skilled players), but they won’t buff staff or scepter to compensate and make some of us switch out of D/D.

I think it’s funny you assume it is exactly that build.
There can be a many other builds doing the same kind of damage + having protection ready, and not being the build (you probably are using) you posted.
It’s a process of logical deduction
Considerable survival -> not a heavy fire/air build and almost certainly heavy water because being survivable is difficult when you can’t clear conditions.
Protection up often -> 10 earth and 10 arcana are our most reliable means of gaining protection. I wouldn’t describe other methods of gaining protection, or even one without the other as having protection up often.
High direct damage attacks -> not deep into earth. Further, not being deep into earth and having considerable survivability points to heavy water.
The follow on attack after updraft caused high damage and burning, almost certainly burning speed + ring of fire, so D/D. It’s possible that he was hit with dragon’s tooth, but I think he would have mentioned a giant tooth appearing and hanging in the air long enough to introduce itself and its 31 closest relatives.
The points may be shifted 5 here or 5 there with some different choices in traits, but I’m fairly confident that what he ran into is close to the build I posted.

There are MANY builds that people are trying out. The fact that the OP didn’t tell where it happened (SPvP or WvW), makes it nigh impossible to tell. The builds people label as the “best”, I don’t see often in SPvP. I am fairly certain it was a D/D build also, however. The fun part is that you are absolutely certain about it was the specific build you posted, plus minus minor variations.
It is kind of like fortune tellers. Predicting what is most common and likely to happen. I have seen several other builds doing the same effect.
Stin, next time you should ask the player you fight. If you approach in a friendly manner, I’m sure you will get your answers.

Elementalists in my opinion are the last class that should be in line for a nerf. Overall they are generally squishy and have average damage output.
1. Any class can have very high damage output if they are spected to be a glass cannon – I personally have recently tried a ele glass cannon and have noted over ~15k damage in under 3 seconds or so.
2. To say that a class is OP or something should be nerfed because " it’s on the overpowered end of the spectrum when used by highly skilled players" is in my opinion invalid. Of course if you are a skilled player you will be a better fighter. End of story. I have played many builds and once I found out a build I enjoyed and became a better fighter, to say that my playstyle needs to be nerfed because I can win fights against most people is ridiculous. If I can outfight for example a worrior in a 1v1 (the highest dps class there is) why is it that my playstyle needs to be nerfed? Maybe I’m just a better player?
