Elementalist Elites
I can’t speak for either the water or air elementals, since I rarely ever use them, but the earth elemental is a pretty good tank, and the fire elemental does decent damage.
The fiery greatsword is a pretty good conjure if you can get around what I see is the large usability failure of the thing – you should drop target when using it, particularly when fighting crowds. AC4 when targeting something is less than worthless – it does pathetic damage and likely will get you killed, because it just sprints to your target and does a jump attack. AC4 when you have no target is actually pretty good – it will usually leave you out of the line of fire and the fire trail you leave can do some sick damage, particularly when you know what you’re doing (hint: fire trail damage stacks).
If you are fighting large mobs (e.g. orr events), your fiery greatsword should net you far greater DPS than your normal attacks will (and you’ll make a small fortune tagging them for loot).
And don’t forget that you can heal your elementals. But I would like to be able to control them, like a ranger with his pet.
Tornado always gets me killed,
Fiery greatsword, I have never used it in a fight before. I like my 20 weapon abbilities, that’s why I play the profession in the first place.
Whirlpool is still good, though slow and difficult to position.
On land I swear by elementals. 60 seconds of distraction, good AoE damage from fire and the chill from water is actually more useful than you think (I tend to stay in fire/earth in combat). Now that they have the glyph cooldown trait working, you will have it available for most larger groups you decide to engage.
I’m gonna copy this here:
I (as an elementalist) was attacked by another elementalist and he used tornado.
Is it always such low damage? he did like 200 damage per blow and the blow was every 3 seconds. I was still full hp after his tornado because I regenerated faster.
How is this an elite?
I would quite like to see an elite that changes with your attunement “Master of Magic” maybe?
Tornado has the potential to be a devastating elite, but it’s too weak in it’s current state. It doesn’t throw back often enough, too small an area, and the damage is too low.
The elementals is nice (the only decent elite we have). Once in a while I’ll use that and the glyph to have 2 elementals at once up to fight.
The only valid elite in most situations seems to be the elemental one. So i must say it feels like we have a right to complain and i would like to see the current list of elites scrapped in favor for new more thought through ones, sure the elemental one works but it ruins it for me. I want to be all powerful on my own, not using some crappy entity summoned from the ether of magic.
My present build incorporates the use of both the elite and non-elite elementals. With 10 points into earth, I get fast glyphs I almost always have an elemental to throw at something, while I’m fighting. That said, I exclusively summon the minor earth elemental for its toughness and swap between Earth and Fire elemental, with the elite summon. Air is practically worthless in terms of both damage output and survivability and water, as stated above, is situationally useful.
I don’t PvP at all, no interest in it but I’d imagine that any kind of elemental would be worthless in those kinds of situations.

Yeah, the conjure Sword should be that.
Just a thought, but maybe we should get an elite that gives us access to an “Arcane” attunement? Could be interesting.

That… I really like that idea. It doesn’t even have to be a bunch of superpowered skills with a massive cooldown, it could be completely on par with the regular attunements. Just having four more minor cooldowns to weave into our fights would be pretty elite.
I have to say, I hope Anet gets off this kick of making elites into “ultimates.” The elites with low cooldowns and unikittenfects that totally change up your gameplay are some of the coolest ones. I miss those.
elementalist elites yust are the most boring ones in the whole game.. only tornado looks cool, but is so bad noone uses it anyway/

Maybe another lost thought…theres only 1 elite for underwater use…and its not even that good
Been using FGSW in PvE. I was very skeptical about it, but i was wrong. Very strong elite, it just makes my day every time i use it, local Armageddon. Now, with traits u can get 25 charges for this thingy, instead of 15… dreams come true. Elemental is a good elite, however it provides more defensive play-style, it draws some aggro from u, gives u time etc. While FSGW is perfect for leeroy and omfg situations, and great AoE burst booster. I kinda don’t really care how many mobs i’ll agro if i know FGSW is off cd. Tears everything to pieces.
