Anet has stated they want the Ele to be the “Jack of all Trades”, essentially means we can do everything other classes can do just not as good. So here is how we are not what Anet states they want us to be:

Thief can stealth – Anet must give the ele a stealth not as good as a thief but none the less we should have stealth

Ranger can trap and perma pet – Anet must give the ele traps, and perma pets

Mesmers can clone and portal – Anet must give the ele clones and portals

Guardians can create light fields – Anet must give the ele the ability to create light fields

So Anet if you stand by your word and want the ele to be the “jack of all trades” give us the ability to do everything other classes can do.. just not as good.

Anyone else have additions to the list?

Edit: to those that may take this post as 100% serious.. don’t! Have fun with it and post things other classes can do that the ele can’t.. except for light fields.. really eles should be able to light field

Survive: Other classes can do this, but the ele can’t. Fix immediately.

Elementalist can stealth underwater though (murky water + arcane wave/tidal wave).

To my current knowledge, elementalists don’t have aegis, quickness, torment, retaliation, siphon health and confusion.

To be a true jack of all trades, eles lack:
- Smoke fields
- Ethereal Fields
- Light Fields
- Dark Fields
- Poison Fields

- Aegis
- Retaliation
- Torment
- Confusion
- Poison
- Fear

As long as we don’t have access to all these things, we are no jack of all trades, and therefore all arguments citing that as a reason why eles need to suck kitten are invalid.

The “trades” is the role you can be in not the means to how you achieve it rofl.

Do you read? The OP is claiming not jack of all trades. How you damage doesn’t have anything to do with the “trades”. How you bunker doesn’t have anything to do with the “trade”.

Your trade is your job – If your job is to do damage then you specced for damage and thats the role = job = trade you are filling. The skills you use to do your Job=Trade=Role has nothing to do with the Trade portion of “Jack of all Trades”

Grab a thief and go bunker tell me how that works dropping aggro in stealth is not bunker.

What the frak are you talking about? At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought.

Jack of all trades, master of none, means you can do EVERYTHING but nothing really best. By frakking definition, even from arenanet. Yet as countless posters have brought up we are very far away from being able to do everything – in fact Engineers can do WAY more stuff than we can, yet they don’t have to pay the “jack of all trades” tax.

My Ranger in GW1 was considered the “Jack of all trades” by Anet and they threw dozens of nerfs my way that screwed over my favorite class even though I still couldn’t do some things that other classes could do. I’m glad to see Anet gave Elementalists that title instead of Rangers for once. Good luck getting Anet to take back what they said about Elementalists being the Jack of all Trades. Why? Because I tried that in GW1 and they pretty much laughed in my face. Have fun with your nerfs.

A thief goes dps: The dps = Job/Role/Trade

According to the OP (read the op) he is saying that Trade = How you dps, how you bunker.

Warrior going DPS – Thief going DPS = Role/Job/Trade the fact that a Warrior does DPS different than a Thief does DPS is irrelevant. They both are there for DPS.

If someone asks you what your professional trade is you don’t tell them what tools you use and leave the rest blank. You tell them what your job is.

Example so you can understand:

Mark just met John and asks him what he does for a living.

(John is a Police officer)

Mark “Hey buddy what is your Trade Profession?”

John “Oh I use a Glock, a Car, Handcuffs, Reports, C.B. Radio”

Mark “Oh cool bro, well I use a truck, axe, ladders, fire resistant gear”

Or I understand what Trade means and you don’t.

there’s no such thing as a ‘jack of all trades’ it basically means the class is mediocre. I’d rather be best at 3 things than so so in all of things. Being a jack of all trades has no real reward. I quit elementalist months ago and I don’t regret it. It looks no different than a healer to me infact it’s better off becoming a healer than an elementalist so it would be USEFUL!!!

and rangers in GW2 are regarded as in a poor state, bottom of the barrel according to some. Obviously not being considered a ‘jack of all trades’ is no defense against an underperforming profession.

Trade in this case would be the class, if your a thief you don’t run around saying herpa der|p ima dps, ima dps.. no you say you’re a thief. However I do get your point, just disagree because all classes can dps, bunker and heal to some point and if thats the case then all classes are the “Jack of all Trades”.

I don’t see the elementalist as a jack of all trades perse, but rather a jack of all trades with regards to casting. Most casters in most games pick an area of magic like destruction fire, water, necro, etc. and specialize in it. The elementalist is only good when you know how to use the different attunements together, which means memorizing 4 different skill bars and finding a gear/trait combo that works will with your playstyle.

I think the ele is just fine. I do very well on bg’s and I am pretty noob to this game (though I did play GW1 and WOW). Try playing with different trait setups or go online and look at some popular builds. I discovered my own personally, but they should at least give you some ideas of where to start and how to play ele.

When I started about 2 months ago with ele, I thought they were so weak, but that was because I was still in the ‘Skyrim" mentality where you pick a magic tree or two and stick to this choice. I was running entire bg’s only using fire and occasionally water. Once I read up on elementalist micro-management and figured out which attunement combos fit me best, I started owning in no time.

did you just tell me to l2p, lol (i know you were just trying to be helpful). I have been playing ele since beta. all i’m saying is the ele is not a jack of all trades as suggested by anet. the whole give us everyone elses skills is tongue-n-cheek…,. except for light fields anet needs to give the ele light fields for sure!
