Elementalist Protest
that would be pretty hilarious, actually
would participate
State we’re in for PvE is fine. For PvP, we can hold our own in 1vs1. For zergs, we can spam AoE.
It’s only in the area in between, in 1vs2 or 2vs3, that we have issues, since multiple opponents always target us first. Lots of classes have advantages over us there. Being pretty decent in duels and zergs, but horrible in small-scale group combat doesn’t seem so bad to me. Two out of three.
Then of course, you look at PvE, and we’re in a great place right now. Sure, plenty of things I wish could get changed, but I’ve got a pretty long wish-list for each of the other classes as well.
Higher tier tpvp we stand no chance
Bad Elementalist
That’s why I started to main War in PvP a while ago. lol
Really though, as long as Anet doesn’t nerf Ele in PvE, I’m fine with it being mainly for that. Worst nightmare is a might-stacking, FGS, or LH nerf.
So it’s ok for the rest of us to suffer as long as it doesn’t affect you? Yeah big lol.
FrownyClown, I’m going to have a chat to my guild and see if we could organise one and livestream it for EU too.

Nice usage of “pretty well”and “reasonable” and of course “even”.
Why even the ppl who defend our weak PvP ability can’t talk with more confidence? I guess nothing more is needed to say….
Edit:
To the OP: Tell me the time and I’ll be there if I would be able to get in-game
if we wanto make it an ongoing protest, we can jump to our deaths in the Coddler’s Cove jump puzzle where the quaggan children will continually revive us :p

Gotta agree with this, and frankly, I don’t see why not being able to take on multiple opponents at the same time is such a big issue. When you stop and think about it, is it realistic to ask for a profession that can take on multiple opponents in a game that’s supposed to be balanced? Of course not.
Normally Anierna and I disagree, but in this case, what he says makes sense. Protests are unneccesary. Though there’s still room for improvement, things are better since the recent patch. I can’t determine is wheter that’s due to other profession’s nerfs or our own changes, but I fear it’s the former.
Just from my experience with the patch in a tpvp setting, it didn’t matter how good I was. I’ve been told to stop playing ele because it hurts the team and I’ve been blamed for a teams loss even when my entire team was kind of bad and up against 3 necros. 3v1 aside I want to be able to beat a decent thief without his swords boon rip spam and blind field spam. I think part of that is the conquest game mode. The protest was an idea if people were interested but obviously its not going to happen.

Why do you let them get to you so much? If it’s that obvious they’re bad players, then their opinions shouldn’t matter right? You know what the real story is.

That’s because I make decisions based on facts and good arguments, not people whining about other people’s performance in PvP…especially if they themselves aren’t something to write home about either. It’ll always happen, because it’s much easier to blame someone else than it is to blame yourself.

No disrecpect thibash but please don’t assume I cry on the forums without merit. I do well in WvW and I actually do alright in tpvp matches but there have been multiple 1V1 instances where nothing I did mattered and I am one of the better dd eles out there . I think this patch did nothing for us, even made thief stronger in some aspects. Eles still need balancing in my opinion.

My apologies, I didn’t mean to call you a whiner. Quite the opposite, I meant to support you. I don’t think it’s fair for others to call you useless based on profession alone. I’m sure you’re a decent player at least, I’ve no reason to assume otherwise.
It looks like people are already protesting. I haven’t seen many good elementalists in PvP recently.

The level that an Ele has to play in PvP to be decent is really high compared to other professions. And at that high skill level you might be better off playing another profession that would do much better at a higher skill level. As a result, some people who are average on Ele may decide to play something easier and more rewarding profession for PvP.

I laughed so hard ^^ Made my day, OP, hilarious idea.
Yesterday I was in Ascalon with a pure Warrior-Guardian party (with my “kitten-my-ele-let’s-try-a-tank” Guardian) and lol, we rocked so hard and so fast, it was insane. I’ve just played my Ele for the last month if I have played and I couldn’t understand why some people complain that Ele (mainly adressing people who can’t play that fcing difficult to master class) slows everyone down … now I do. I think when I was into my Ele and played him with care I was mediocre or maybe a little better but FCing kitten is ranged combat in this game underwhelming! If you never did: Roll a close-combat-character for a try and do a run solo with close-combat-people! You wanna slap Arenanet in their faces!
“We wanna eliminate classic MMO roles” … nah actually you people made the role dilemma worse xD What you did was just eliminating the usefulness of some professions in favor of a few which are insnaly OP now.

Because Ele + Chuck = OP as hell
I’m gonna have to pass on the idea of a protest. tho I have to admit it be funny to see the faces of anet’s staff having a group of picketers outside their office.

Count me in. I think Anet needs a good hard look at class balance particularly in the health and armor tiers and Range vs Melee DPS. I also think cool downs need to be addressed for Ele’s that want to specialize in 1 or two elements (50+ seconds cool downs just are too much higher than other classes).
I would also love to see them look back at balance in and before beta when attuning to an element did something (I.e. where water would freeze nearby enemies without traits required). I think the Elementalist was balanced against gameplay mechanics that were changed (before Traits and when skill use would cost energy), and that was the last time they look at our weapon skill balance (can anyone confirm if the skill cool downs have changed since alpha?).
The Elementalist is still a very fun class to play, but I always feel like I have to work 2+ times harder for the same effect as other classes.
I would also like to point out that in Everquest the warriors had a sit-in protest in the game because they were tired of boring class mechanics (before they only had auto attack, taunt, and kick). It worked, the Devs came up with some melee maneuvers to give them some more variety in their fights.
Yeah i kinda regreted switching my wvw main to ele from a guardian and getting some ascended weapons for him. Even after following some of those expert eles for their builds, and playing my darndest for months, it is apparent that eles are just too weak for wvw roaming. Probably switching my wvw main to a mesmer, warrior or thief when account based wvw ranking kicks in.

Yeah, too bad that was in the times where Devs actually listened to the community, the times when RPG still meant something to ppl, now it’s just MMOG, not MMORPG anymore.

i wont complain about ele if all people inside my aoe cricle get hit by all my meteors like mobs in pve…. seriously…
I still own on my D/D ele its still one of the strongest builds to roam.
High damage, high sustain, high mobility, very high utility and oped condition removal. If i would like to zerg, what i usually dont, the only adjustment i would have to make is doubleclicking the staff in my inventory.
I dont understand all that whining
You guys should try engineer or ranger, wow that would be a whinefest.
Imagine you guys would have to make a compromise between damage, sustain, mobility and utility.
Most eles are just upset that warriors are now so op like the D/D ele was before.

i’ll vouch that d’d is still moderately effective.. i see it being used in wvw, problem is it’s a lot of work and carries the same success/get stomped rate as other professions nonchalant facerolling.. there was a noticeable amount of cookie-cutter elems out there and they diminished over a short amount of time.. the reason for this wasn’t an onslaught of unwarranted nerfs.. but moreso, i’m assuming the majority of elementalists simply don’t want to play this style.. That is what all the ‘whining’ is about

Did I not say ele was fine in wvw? I roam all the time. It needs help in pvp settings and maybe early leveling ( which could be solved by better scaling)

well thats you, the rest of the forum sounds like this class is horrible weak and underpowered, almost unplayable.

Biggest load of carp I’ve seen in a while, VERY fishy.
Pretty much none of what you said is true, but seeing as how its the Internets and there’s no accountability for bald faced lying, the people that want their free Ele kills will eat up all that carp.
The biggest problem is that it seems ANet is also sliding up to the table to partake in the bounty of carp that you’re offering up. No wonder the Ele performs like stale tuna.
I like fish metaphors better than “kitten”
Hey all if you are interested in actually doing this send me a mail in game. Tell your friends to message me too. If I get 50 people interested I will set it up for sunday

I’ll join in the cause because I have seen a huge decrease of Ele roaming in WvW and that is not fun seeing only me roaming as Ele for hours.

I just sent another your way. Hopefully we can get some more traction on Friday when more people log on.
If we get a protest going, we should probably figure out what exactly we want. I am thinking a few different items (I do not necessarily want all of them, but we should focus on some):
1) reduced cool downs on our weapon skills (to make single / double element build more playable).
2) greatly reduced attunement swap delays but ICD on switching abilities to prevent abuse.
3) Attunement abilities not tied to traits and that happen when not switching (i.e. like in alpha where just being in Air magic sent out a single target shock, this way Aeromancers can sit in air and still not loose too much power).
4) Balanced Health between all of the classes (preferably all equal, but I would settle for a much smaller gap between high and low HP classes). Make armor a bigger factor, but in its current state is a 1000 stat point difference is hard to overcome.
5) in lieu of balanced health, grant bonus power/ precision (or just better skill coefficients) to low HP and Low Armor classes.
6) remove the 5 target limitation on AOE skills (If melee can hit 3 targets, we should be able to hit as many targets that are dumb enough to stand that close together. It does not happen that often anyway).
7) Increased DPS on our AOE skills for PvP. (I.e. increasing DPS of Lava font on targets not immobilized, crippled, or chilled, because it is just too easy to walk out of (much like the DPS increase on warriors hammer skills when not.
8) our weapon 20% cool down reduction skills should be paired with something else (like all of the warrior skills) (i.e. 20 % cool down reduction on earth skills with 20% increase bleed duration).
9) Ride the lightning cool down restored to 16 second and split for PvP. Or replaced/modified to be affected by cripple, immobilize, etc.
10) A Dev Gameplay tracker (like the dev tracker that reports posts, but instead gives stats on how many hours that have logged on which class, on which server split between production and QA and PvE, PvP, and WvW). I think this would help with the feeling that they do not play the Elementalist (or prove that they do not).
11) PvP and WvW stats on frequency of classes, average kill to death ratios, DPS, and a few other stats. This would help provide some data to compare classes.
11) I am sure that many Elementalists have a lot more ideas (There are surely many posts in this forum with a lot of ideas on how to balance out our class).
I think for a protest to work we will need to focus on just a few key items, that will fix our class, or at least bring a lot more balance to our class.
Guild wars 2 is a very good game, but I think the last time Anet really sat down and looked at our class was in Alpha when abilities still used energy and traits did not exist or were something completely different (read the manifesto or the Elementalist description and see if you agree). Maybe if we band together we can have them take a good hard look at our class.
That’s overbalancing I think. They need to fix rtl add defensive traits lower some cooldowns and improve focus. I’d like a 25s finally firegrab
Bad Elementalist
Pretty much all I really want are 1, 2, 3 and 8. No brainer for the first one, we’re pretty much forced out of our attunements after a certain amount of time whether or not that attunement is still useful, while pretty much every other class can pick when to switch based on need and not on being locked out of their skills.
Same thing for 2, our four sets each provide an essential functionality that is not that of a complete weapon from another class. This means that after switching from fire to air for control while using staff, we lose most of our damage for the next 10-13 seconds. This flatly shouldn’t be a thing, because while some weapons for other classes focus on damage, control, etc. they still function as complete weapons, while switching attunements for us means losing a whole chunk of our usefulness for what will most likely be the entire duration of a fight, with our healthpool.
8 is because every other class gets a bonus on the skills that reduce cooldowns. Seriously, combine blasting staff, windborne dagger, the scepter one, and the alacrity
traits into four master tier element traits (ex. 20% fire cooldown reduction, increase AoE on weapon skills by 60).
I would also like more traits for conjures, and to improve the single one we have now, as well as to improve flame axe and earth shield.
@FrownyClown,
I agree that all of them taken in one patch we make us overpowered, I just thought I would create a short list of inequities I have either noticed, or that I have seen posted on the forum a lot.
If we go for all of them Anet will write us off as unrealistic, but if we carefully select just a few I think Anet will take notice. The big hurdle is going to convince Anet that there is a problem (I have a feeling that class balance may not be only an Elementalist problem as well, this may precipitate as large of an overhaul as PvP, or horizontal / vertical progression).
I would even be happy if they put us on the agenda for a CDI (not just balancing the Elementalist of course, but general class balance). This way we could state our case in front of everyone and get Dev feedback.
i haven’t seen much interest in the protest to be honest.
Bad Elementalist
I watched the 12/20 Twitch TV and found some interesting information out
This is all from Tyler Chapman
- There will be a balance CDI coming next year
- Elementalist will be getting more love in the next balance patch
- Tyler plays an Elementalist (d/d 0 30 20 15 5 zephyrs boon, zephyrs focus, tempest defense, elemental shielding, rock solid, vital striking with soldier amulet zerk jewel)
- There will be a balance stream coming up (I think the next one) in two weeks.
Not that the Protest has a lot of momentum, but I think we should wait and see what happens in the next few months. We have already waited this long.
