Elementalist Staff builds
depends on what you’re trying to solo
general PvE? yes, it’s excellent
general PvP? it’s pretty underpowered, but you can make it work. depending on what class/build you’re fighting
also, staff in general is pretty underwhelming without Blasting Staff, in case you aren’t already running that trait
Just pve for now. So staff is ok for pre?
yeah, it’s amazing
best weapon set ever
Would dagger/dagger work better ?
nah
dagger has better burst—you can kill one or two things really fast and then move on, but can’t do it again for a bit—but staff is overall better in all the other areas, like sustained damage, staying alive, and dealing with a bajillion monsters at once
Staff is generally considered the worst weapon set for solo. It’s excellent in groups, a remarkably effective weapon when used properly for support, AoE and spamming water/ fire fields. But it’s not meant for overland PvE solo.
You can make any weapon work in PvE solo, if you work at it hard enough and learn how it works. But you’ll have an easier time soloing with a scepter or dagger mainhand.
Ratbag Dogsticker (Guardian)
…Yak’s Bend
Even if it isn’t meant for PvE solo, it’s still hilariously amazing at it—easily the best weapon—since enemies won’t walk out of your AoEs. and those things are extremely strong when your targets stay in them

Staff is the weapon of choice for PvE, solo or otherwise. Classic bunker (0,X,X,30,30) will serve you well.
Check out this staff build. It has potential to be one of the better small roaming squad builds. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/elementalist/Tanky-Staff-DiamondResistance-Build-VIDEO/first#post3460349
Reikken, I disagree unless you’re only talking about PvE. Potentially a disconnect due to an unspecific OP. In any player vs player matchup I say d/d has the most consistent DPS.

yes I am of course talking only about PvE, since the guy said “Just pve for now.”
As far as PvP, D/D of course has best damage output against things that can dodge, but I’m no longer sure about it being the actual most damaging. the most consistent dps. I find that the defensive skills on focus let me spend virtually 100% of my time attacking. The projectile reflect can also net you some free damage. so yeah it’s not clear to me
Meteor Shower is one of the fastest ways an ele has to clear large groups of open world npcs. Staff works just fine in any form of PvE. The people that claim it doesn’t confuse it with PvP. But the issue in PvP is that players are more adept at dodging/avoiding staff damage spells. NPCs don’t do this, so the staff has a much easier time.
Is a solo staff with an ele viable at all? I mean I can kill lot’s of stuff, but I die a lot too. I don’t know if dual daggers would be more effective for solo play?
Solo staff works in open world pve. Not in dungeons or fractals. But only madmen solo dungeons and fractals.
Des not work anywhere else actually, especially not wvw or pvp.

I’m not so sure about PvP. I ran D/D forever, with a semi-classic bunker, but I’ve actually been doing vastly better with a staff, though maybe its just that I’m more suited to that playstyle.
