Guild Wars 2

I’ve been playing a mesmer for awhile now. The thing is it gets so repetitive after awhile. I’m a HUGE fantasy novel/whatever fan and when it comes to MMOs I’ve always been really dissapointed in the elementalist. That is until gw2. There seems to be so much diversity with them not to mention that they can actually have burst and some good power. It seems like a fun class to play. I mainly PvP and I always see threads from ele’s complaining about PvP. Is it worth it to roll one for PvP? I mean I don’t care if I die a lot as long as if I have that satisfying part where I can actually get kills and fast. I’ve always hated warrior and guardian and such as it has nothing magical like about them. And I do not care if its a hard class to play, I can get there eventually. If you all agree that its a great class to play what are some great power builds? I’ve been hit by some crazy stun combo a couple of times where it ends with dragon tooth basically killing me in one hit. Seems crazy burst. What do you all recommend really?

fun: yes
effective: barely

lots of combo, fun and high skill cap, but effectiveness…meh
if you only want fun, you got it with ele.
the squashiest class, the best burst. at power builds you are one shotting yo target or dying by 2-3 direct attacks.

pve – high damage, can outdamage warriors easily with fgs
wvw – bwuhahahaaha burn burn burn bwuhahaha
pvp v.1 – boom! one shot!
pvp v.2 – boom! one shot! kitten , I should to dodge this shatter/stun/knockback/knockdown…meh
pvp v.3 – faceroll machine

Is the Ele really that bad? I wanted to roll one, but all the posts here really put me off.

Of course fun is the most important thing, but being a handicap to groups in pve or pvp wont be fun =/

The ele is the most fun class in the game imo. If you have played mages/casters type of professions on previous mmorpg and loved it…then the ele from gw2 won’t disappoint you. However, we never one shot players (except hitting chunning earth to an uplevel). What might look like a one shot to many is actually the execution of multiple instant cast skills/utilities/traits that are combined at the same time for massive burst damage. The ele is not as easy to do well compared to other professions but that’s also part of the fun.

well, if your enemy just die in 1 sec with all those insta casts, they think about one shot. ofc it’s not one shot, it’s only instant casts without/low animation that looks like one button kill

Hmm. No I don’t frequently see myself one hitting people. I’ve one hit a few thieves, mesmers after I’ve stacked might from another fight, then LF-Churned on top of them and instagibbed them. That’s quite fun.

But I’ve 2 shotted a ton of people. Almost daily I’ll get a thief/ranger/mesmer with burning speed – fire grab combo while swapping to a different attunement.

4.5k burning speed 7.5+k fire grab = shattered glass. On heavier defense classes I can usually land 5k grabs.

dont listen to all these baddies… ele takes a bit more work to get good at but is very rewarding, very team oriented, and very fun! also one of the best dueling classes in the game

also i have made many build that can easily one shot people, s/d, d/f, and d/d are all capable of this …..probably s/f also, but it is a pretty awful combo in my opinion

nah, people come to forums to complain more than anything else. the people who are upset are the ones who post the most

I think ele is pretty great, and I’m having loads of fun destroying people in pvp
and in pve ele has the best damage output bar none

I don’t one shot players either even though many tell me that I do but it is not one button pressed type of kill. Chunning earth can definitely one shot uplevels in wvw. Not even when I used to run with less armor and my chunning earth used to hit from 14-15k dmg to anyone below 2700 armor…. even then it would require for lightning Flash or any any other attack skill to down someone in a 2 shot kill. Now do I still down many players in 1-2 secs? of course.. that’s how powerful the ele can be against bad players or when you ambush someone from their blind spot (thief mode).
