I am certainly not anywhere near pro , but this build helped rack up a good score and put me on par fighting mesmers and thieves.
Remember : Elementalist is a class which requires alot more experience than a faceroll thief , although the outcome is much much greater.
The key to his build is : survivability ( allowing your enemy to spam away whilst you endure then demolish).
This build allows the diversity of tanking and being aggressive at the same time. Fighting against a thief 1v1 may prove fatal , although the build provides a great heal spec in the water attunement which allows to pick your health back up and carry on, or if you wanted to escape there are numerous possibilities : RTL , fire3, mist form , lightning flash.
Tips on fighting : I usually initiate fights by fire-3 , fire-4 then arcane blast which provides a hefty hit against many classes , then swap over to earth and use earth-4, then to lightning to finish.
- Use your auras they provide decent survivabilty and help stop ganks from thieves etc.
The shock aura stuns foes , this helps in group fights to if you get focused upon.
- Use your elite , helps decently as each plays a different role ( water/healing ).
-When joining team fights i usually carry of the same process ; fire-3 fire-4 arcane blast earth-4 in the middle of the fight(this is very helpful as it cuts alot of enemy dps) then churning earth, which takes time but with the enemies on the ground its alright.
-Use RTL to chase enemies then updraft to knock them away (can be used defensively too to escape)
-Use water -2 and water-5 alot as it heals and also water-2 attacks.Nearing 10k hp I usually swap to water -2 in a fight so i can provide DPS and a heal.
-Use water-3/fire-4/earth-2 when a thief goes to stealth to interrupt him when hes circling you or coming for you.
-Use fire-4 and fire-3 effectively to destroy a mesmers clones/phantasms then the fight will be easy as you cut their dps in half.
Just some cookie cutter rotations for y’all to build around and work upon. Also everything an elementalist does is situational.
that’s all for now
