Edge of the mists, birthday boosters and normal exp boosters help in leveling. U can get tome of knowledge as well to make it quicker on you. If you have a lot of gold craft as well. Doing a dungeon run as well is basically a free lvl.
I’d say staff makes most pve mobs without any issues.

Main reason I don’t play charr anymore is due to armor clipping issues.

Tips:
You can swap attunements and use most cantrips without interrupting a channeled skil (meteor shower/churning earth/ drake breath etc etc)l.
Dodge roll lots.

1. Crafting, Level tomes, Edge of the mists, PvP (tomes), Exploring/maps. If you’re gonna explore, I would go for Signet for Air for the movement speed boost, Lightning Hammer/Ice Bow, Lightning Flash and if you’re dying a lot Arcane Shield/mistform. You can also go for Glyph of Storms if you have lots mob to kill quickly.

2. I guess it’s staff, when I did maps on my ele I used s/d or d/f, though for faster cast times.

3. Yes, they look silly, the camera angles are horrible and jumping with them are pretty much pain, no good armour either. But that’s personal preference.

4. Well, playing on staff you’re gonna be in fire mostly. In pve there are not really many rotations only blasting fire and static fields, sometimes going in water for healing if needed. PvP is completely different.

5. Nothing specific really, learn to switch to s/d or s/f for might stacking before engange, get arcane wave to help you with that. For jumping puzzles probably not much, you could use Signet of Air but that’s about it.

1. Signet of air is a must, just like signet of the hunt or the warrior’s +25% speed trait. Conjure Frost Bow skill 4 is an incredible AoE (and skill 5 turns a threat into a pretty statue) similar to Meteor Shower. Glyph of storms Earth can help if you’re overrun by mobs that aren’t Dredge. If you’re having trouble surviving, 4 points in water for Cleansing Wave should usually solve that problem.

2. I recommend D/D or D/F for funsies, but they don’t give you anywhere near the AoE power of the staff. Scepter seems to be the weapon most suited to fighting mano-a-mano, but as cool as Phoenix is I can’t stand using the kitten thing.

3. Too large on the log in screen, too sluggish when running about and any die hard Charr fan wouldn’t be caught dead playing some iron forsaking magician, also they weren’t exactly the most likeable characters in GW1. Still, nothing’s stopping you from playing a Charr and they can be rewarding (Monocle Cowgear, the sheep faced Charrgineer super saiyan taught me that).

4. It’s balanced around Bearbow Rangers, Guildwars: Prepare to Die edition. In all seriousness, you could get away with whatever you want in PvE, at least until level 80 zones.

5. Fresh Air and some other Ele playstyles can’t be done until level 80 so if you want to play Fresh Air, which is especially rewarding for scepter and dagger, you’ll need to practice the flow of it so you don’t have to constantly look at the skill bar. As for playing staff… Well… I’d basically just be telling you this video by Wooden Potatoes http://youtu.be/WOBkq9SEwfE It’s long and a bit old, but it’s still very helpful (especially for PvE). It’s mostly just discussing ’Zerker gear/Scholar Runes/Sigils and then things you might want to carry in your inventory until 22:40. Keep in mind most of the video is in the mindset of endgame dungeon speedclears, but several things can translate to WvW and maybe PvP.
As for Jumping Puzzles, Signet of Air and not sucking should work out fine. The Quaggan jumping puzzle on the south end of Timberline Falls is all about jump control, which is great for practice.

Just a few more hints:

1, Frostbow is OP in basically every weapon set. #4 hits like a truck, #5 is the longest stun in the game and the weapon lets you stay ranged or stack vulnerability or heal you or your allies. Lightning Flash is also a very good Utility. Improves your movement, survivability and your damage. Hint: start practising your LF combos! LF+Burning Speed or Phoenix can do nice burst or Meteor+LF makes a 2100 range nuke.

Signet of Air is very good but a D/D ele is very fast with Zephyr’s Boon traited, two auras, RideTheLightning, LightningFlash and Elemental Attunement. Sad: you need 6 trait points to get EAttunement. But if you have Zephyr’s Boon you are quick enough to match the permanent +25% movement without SignetOfAir.

2, every weapon set is good on an ele. If you like the classic AoE wizard stick to the staff. If you prefer the “battlemage” use D/D or D/F. All of them are viable.

3, I hate the charr or the norns while doing JP or even just running around… But it’s only personal preference.

Rotation for D/D:
RideTheLightning, Updraft, Shocking Aura
BurningSpeed (LF if needed), Drake’s Breath, (land a Fire Grab if you can), RingOfFire
dodge in earth, Earthquake, Churning Earth (LF if needed)
Air Autoattack ‘till Fire is off-CD again then Drake’s Breath again.

(you gonna love your Naga while playing Ele)

This combo can melt faces. And you still have your Frostbow or ArcaneShield to put out even more damage and your Water attunement for staying alive…
