Elementalist or Necro?
My first 80 was a necro, ele next. They are both equally fun IMO.
I levelled my Ele first, then my Necro. Both were fun. Depends on what style of play you are looking for?
I shelved my Necro due to the Scepter animations (Or lack thereof) which is unfortunate since the only Necro build I liked was a condition build that was relegated to Scepter/X
Ele I’m finding very fun and despite gearing like a glass cannon (So far, still leveling) survivability is very high, what with the ability to swap into Water Attunement for extra healing and high mobility/CC (As D/D or Staff/Scepter respectively)
I’d say go with whatever you find funnest to play, as you can build to make up weaknesses such as squishiness (Through Traits and gear)
There’s two kinds of people… The quick and the dead”
I’ll try and describe how the two classes play.
Elementalist: Good Damage, Swap, Good Damage, Swap, Good Damage, Dead…
Necromancer: Crap Damage, Crap Damage, Crap Damage, Crap Damage, Crap Damage, Almost Dead, Crap Damage, Crap Damage, Crap Damage, Almost Dead, Crap Damage, Crap Damage… (You get the point.)
Ele has modifiably high damage. Doesn’t last long (exception some/most bunker builds which are highly used and work quite well). Necro does mediocre damage, won’t win any nuke fights, but has some the best aoe and survival in the game. Depends on your playstyle as they are worlds apart, imo. D/D Ele is quick, scrappy and brutal. D/D Necro is SLOW with great aoe and super sustainable. Ele is ~95-100% dodging, Necro can have a high enough HP pool (/w toughness) to soak up the dmg of facetankers.
I haven’t played much Elementalist, but I have with the Necromancer. I can say that in large AOE situations, stacking massive amounts of conditions on one mob, and spreading it using Epidemic is massively fun. It’s an amazing feeling to see damage numbers pop up all over your screen and seeing all the mobs’ health being drained away from all your death and decay.
