So I started as a mesmer first and got that to 59 before I stopped and created an ele. I’ve gotten her to 65 and im now thinking of making a warrior. I don’t care much about starting over since I enjoy leveling for some reason but I just want a profession that can become my main and I can use for the things I want. Like I want to do dungeons and WvW. I’ve never really did pvp in any game. I like being the DPS for the group or support but I dislike when people depend on me. I guess I’m not a hardcore gamer but I don’t want to be a complete noob either. Just having trouble deciding what my main should be. Any suggestions?

There’s absolutely no reason why you couldn’t play elementalist and deal a lot of damage. Having said that, if you wanna be lazy, it’s a lot easier to be a warrior and deal damage.

Short Answer: Warrior.

Long Answer: Warrrrrrrrrrior.

Apart from flavor, there’s pretty much no reason for you to not play a warrior.

Warrior all the way…. for everything.

I have all classes at lvl 80 and Warrior/Guardian are tops for everything, but Warrior is in a better state right now. They were buffed to the point of OP while Elementalists are being mostly nerfed since last year.

Elementalist deals more damage and has better overall support but they are squishier, which means you will likely have a very hard time in pugs who are unable to kill things quickly. However, because your DPS is so high, you can oftentimes carry the pugs based on your own DPS and support alone, so this is typically a non-issue.

Warrior deals less damage and their support advantages are often oversaturated because everyone runs warrior, so you won’t add as much to a party. However, your life will generally be easier in pugs since they have more health and armor, so you can last longer even if your pug is bad and takes forever killing anything. But of course, you’re also part of the problem yourself.

So ultimately it’s really more of a preference thing. Whether you want to take it easy but know you’re not doing as well as you could be, or play hard mode and suffer all the time in exchange for being the minmaxer. Which is sort of loaded-sounding, but convenience makes a big difference in an MMO.

elementalist is more interesting, but in a game about combat; all that matters is how fast you kill stuff and the warrior is great at killing stuff, in spvp, PvE and PvPvE. You can just play while drinking tea like I do, don’t have to worry about working 10X for mediocre results.

A lot of PvEers are going to tell you but “blah blah blah ele have higher damage” but the cost is that you are spamming LH, which is far worst than simply playing a warrior. LH even feels like a warrior with a hammer, but with less defensive abilities, toughness and HP.

Elementalist´s problems are not in PvE… everything works in PvE. Maybe I would change conjures so elementalists could get the other weapon on the floor and double the charges… This would make conjures a lot better.

But for PvP elementalists sucks right now and in time Arenanet will see it.
