In my opinion, forgive for my english, elementalist has only 3 big problems :
– too little armor
– you have to put 30 point in arcana .
– water line is good only with dagger, with staff or scepter it is much more difficult to use.
The first statement is simple … we have the worst amor of the game and it is not always simple to stay alive .
For the second i think it is much more difficult to play without 30 point in arcana cause of coldown of attunement switching.

If you use dagger dagger is quite obviouse you have to switch it quite often.

If you use staff, in my opinion, i usually begin the hit with water 4 or earth 4 to immobilize and then i switch to fire (meteor , lavafont and so on) so i switch attunement not so often as dagger but i have to cycle in any case and a simil thing is for scepter so, even with scepter or staff, attunement cd make the difference for me.
It is even difficult not to have access to evasive arcana , i’d put it in the first position of arcana traits and not on the last becouse in water for example is very useful as another heal (10 seconds cold down) and remove condition and even in earth is very usefull .

The other problem is water line (there were many threads on staff this day) : with dagger, with water 2 and 5 I can heal myself while running so it is very easy while with scepter or staff, for example with trident or with geyser i have to put down and to pass and stay inside , it is much slower and when you are attacked by many mobs it is much mor difficult to use and if u have very low health it is a big problem for me.

I use a 0,10,0,30,30 build or a 0,10,10,20,30 build based on cantrips (in pvp i have to get cleaning fire … in pve ether renew it is usually sufficient) .

I tried to play with auras build based on fire (20, 0,30,0,20) or similar but … it was too difficult for me. I admit I am not a champion and these are the problems i found .

Least armor ingame makes sense somehow, have you ever seen a mage wearing heavy armor? But what i don’t get is that we also got the smallest HP-pool …

30P in Arcana – totally agree, 20 might be enough for S/D and maybe D/D but 10 or even 0 just don’t work with these weapon-sets. I either suggest to lower the general CD of attunements for 1-2s or to increase the effectiveness of the CD-reduction from arcana slightly so that 10P might be enough for decent playstyle.

Also agree on the water-traitline – since all those dmg-increasing effects don’t work with lingering elements (including the +20% dmg on vulnerable foes). Also Earth-traits seem rather useless to me (condition-dmg in general). Fire needs a buff too, Air seems quite fine to me and has some interesting traits.

Least armor ok, but pherhaps it could be a little stronger … (not like chain armor but a little more strong than how it is now) .
In my opinion , whith staff or S/D or S/F it is simpler in any case with 30 arcana cause of evasive arcana . It is too important for me and if I fix 30 tp on arcana … for example i can not put 20 on fire and 30 on earth and use auras with signelet (a quite common build) … only for example

At first i will apologize for my bad english but my native speek is spanish.

I find it funny that all are the meaning that you need 20 or 30 points in Arcana. Its the same art of funny then that all use the bunker support Build with 0 10 0 30 30 or nearby this build.

I also use this build before we get the nerf and it was really Overpowered i have made duells versus 4 Enemys without any problems.

Now a play the Glascanon build with 30 30 0 0 10 i don´r need really more in arcana if i use my switch right i don´t need to could switch every 5 sec.

Why all means you need to use switch so fast ? All this player that means it is necessary to switch so often are player how never have learned to play the elementalist.

I play elementalist since the first beta and i know when to use what skill and don´t only push the button for the skill that at moment have no couldown. That is the reason i don´t need to switch so often.

I have played so much versus new elementalist player and i never have difficult versus them because they never have understand what they do they only push buttons and think thats enough.

Only a small part of all that elementalist player you see in competitive pvp are really good elementalst player. Most of the elementalsit player are only hectic button smasher.

Sorry but you open the thread with crying that you have to put 30 SP in Arcana and that is not true.

You only need so much in Arcana if you want to switch so fast because you only uses button smashing not thinking about what can i do now in the element i am at momet and when i have to switch to other element and why i switch to this element.

If you are not abel to survive without switching so much you have to practice more time with your element , also you use so much the arcane evasion because it heals you. Why you need so much heal ? because you make something wrong. If you play right you don´t need so much heal because the enemy is death or you are running away.

Yes i use my Glascannon build in both Pve and TPVP i don´t go to WvW because in my opinion it is only Zergpower versus smaller grp. The biggest grp rush´s over the smaller grp.

Before you decide to change your build to an glascanon build you have to know that in glascanon build only 1 fault is enough and you die fast really fast.
You have not the possibility like a thief to get invisibel.
Its hard to learn but if you could you have no problem in PVE and PVP.

Weapon i use Double Dagger.

I also disagree that the water line is weak for staff. Conditional removal is huge in large fights.

I agree with u that that what i miss primary without 30 in arcana is arcana evasion. I even agree with u it is a problem of mine infact i ask what you think for having hints, not for criticize different builds . I’d try a 30,30,0,10,0 build tonight. I tried a classic 20,x,30,x,x aura signelet build but i did not like it. I asked becouse, looking on videos and forum , i am not alone having these ideas. is a glascanon build based on 30 in fire or Air ?

For the Glascanon build you take 30 fire and 30 Air and i take 10 arcana for the possibility to dodge more when i crit.
Runes i take 10 % of all and 2 % critdmg all 6 runes

i tryed glascannon and it is very funny. I don’t know if i am able to use it in dungeon so I was thinking at somethink like 30 in fire, 25 in water (for 2% damage) and 10 in air annd 5 in arcana or earth..

When I read the title, I immediately thought “first world problems”…
First off, nobody forces you to put 30 points into arcana. If you think that way, it’s your own problem… Tho I have to admit, of all the “special ability traitlines”, Arcana is probably the one with the biggest impact on the game.
Steal cd? Burst skill damage? Bah…
Virtue cd? Shatter cd? Toolbelt cd? Deathshroud? Meh…
Pet attributes? Now we are talking!
Arcana? WANT TO HAVE!!!!

But theres also builds which just can’t fit that arcana in anymore.
Of course, the baseline is strong already. Attunement cd is our bottleneck and boon duration is hot stuff in general. But that’s only for quickly rotating builds.

The only crime, turrets committed, is being good against the celestial meta.
The mob has spoken and the turrets shall be burnt at the stake.

^Someone once posted the template for a dps staff build, where you just stay in fire attunement and autoattack to deal max damage after you dropped your control fields…

I think the 30 points in water is good with any weapon. Those 30 points are intended to be used to allow you to have:

  • More healing
  • More condition removal
  • Make cantrips the best utilities in the game twice over.
