Elementalist pve?
If you use daphoenix’s Dagger/Dagger guide it’s just as viable in PvE as it is in PvP! Plus it’s a lot of fun to play! Otherwise a staff support build is always welcome in a party for its healing and ranged dps capabilities. FotM in particular seems to favor ranged mages.

I have mainly used a staff from lvl 5-80. It got much easier when I unlocked all the skills for it and started using every skill for every fight. Do not do the new guy mistake and stay in one element you are only handicapping yourself when you do that.
Wait…as for speccing different builds for different and play styles..the best thing you can do is experiment with trait allocation yourself luckily reallocating is cheap

Scepter And dagger build here with focus on reduced cool downs on cantrips and glyphs as well as conditioncondition removal and healing. Kinda like an evasion tank/support stetup. However i also posted a guide for scepter/focus which got me through a lot of levels.
