AOE balance. We feel that in PvP some AOE builds are too strong for the opportunity cost, and we’ll be bringing those in line in the next few patches.

This is among the current patch notes. What are your feelings about all this? What are your predictions this will do to the staff elementalist? Do you all feel that the AoE damage of the Elementalist is too strong for the opertunity cost?

I think this may be referring to 100 blades and thief twirling-and-evading aoe bleeds.

I believe staff’s and even dual dagger aoe has significant opportunity cost.

Staff is about as glassy as you can get, even in a bunker build, and double dagger has to stack defensive stats and traits to the rafters to be viable.

In the case of D/D, their aoe either tickles, or they get crushed like a bug for daring to melee in a glass cannon build.

In the case of staff, they lack the defenses of other weapons and the aoe is either slow or channeled-in-place.

I’d still like to see a dev’s word on this, but given what was said about eles in the same post series, I’d believe they have other targets in mind.

Our aoe’s are fine imo…

Our splash might be making us OP though, fireball the autoattack on staff #1 – when it hits multiple enemies I usually see the same damage output on the ones I wasn’t targeting. If they turned that down a notch I would understand though it’d prolly affect the splash healing from water as well thus kitten off some other people (since concerning that we already have to use combo fields if we want any kind of impact at all).

But seriously, if more than one person stands on a lava font should our attack get nerfed because we do damage? That kind of thinking is backwards imo… Ranged is going to have less cost than melee but we sacrifice defense to deal tons of damage – if they nerf the damage we might as well not play ranged period.

I hope they be careful about the rebalancing. Seeing as all of our attacks are aoe, simply reducing damage would also drastically hurts our 1v1. And I personally think offensive staff is kind of weak as it is anyway. Luckily it wasn’t this patch

I am actually pretty sure this isn’t about us. Mostly because we have to be in melee to aoe dps at all most of the time and staff doesn’t hit all that hard given how open you are during most of your long cast skills. Actually I am pretty sure this is about necro mark.

You mean necro wells? Well bombing is good for bursting single targets, so I’d imagine its only better for groups.

i hope they aren’t referring to staff because the AOE is definitely NOT powerful when accounting for opportunity costs.
