Hello everyone I made a similar thread in the Warrior forum and it had a great turn out (aside from the little bit of arguing that occurred). I’m hoping for a similar effect here.

I will be making topics in the other profession forums as well because I want to aggregate all the comments and the best way to do so would be to post in each profession’s individual forum instead of just placing it in Players Helping Players because the professions’ forums get more traffic and are filled with players most knowledgeable about that particular profession!

Anyways, now with that out of the way I would like to know: What makes the Elementalist appealing to you?

Why do you enjoy playing the profession? It could be based on its theme or for other gameplay reasons, perhaps you enjoy the diverse amount of options available to the profession? Tell me anything and everything!

For instance, the Elementalist is appealing to me because of all the different types of magic it can wield, makes it seem very mage-y. By this I mean other than the fact that it has access to four elements but just the idea of utilizing glyphs, conjuring, and summoning really gives me that traditional wizard feeling of having a bunch of utility available for whatever situation you’re in.

I started out playing thief. I heard about this game browsing the internet and I always played assassin type classes. I sucked though. What got me into ele was watching Dapheonix’s earlier vids. It looked like a work of art. I immediately loved the concept of d/d being close quarters like thief was. I think everyone aspired to be like Dapheonix. We got nerfed, dapheonix slowly got worse (all he was good at was running) and then I realized I really suck at ele. The ele community used to be larger than today, and it was always a competition to be the best. Nothing else feels like ele. I have all the tools to survive almost any encounter. I am not heavily disadvantaged vs other classes/builds, my ability to outplay ppl is second to none, and if i make a mistake I always have room to recover.

Ranged area damage.

I mean if I had to distill it down to one single fact, there it is. No other class has access to our level of ranged AOE. Revenant seems like it’s going to be coming close and I’m eager to look into it but hard to really compete with the Elementalist’s ranged potential. There’s a lot of other classes I really, really enjoy playing but in the end I always come back to the Elementalist cause of that ranged AOE.

For me its the range magic and all the things an ele can do in comparison to other classes. The best part for me is dropping an Ms, glyph of storm, and frost bow 4 on a zerg in a choke and ether seeing a kitten ton of number or dieing instantly half way through MS due to Retaliation. Plus i love the animations of the human female Ele. (<3 the ms)

Initially, I made my current Ele when Celestial Gear was coming to the game. After seeing what a good D/D Ele could pull off in terms of group content, it appealed to me than other classes. Once I hit level cap, I swapped to a Fresh Air S/D build (no conjures) and played that until my keyboard quit working.

Once I came back after a break from the game, I started playing Staff Ele. While a good deal simpler, I’ve really gotten into it. I always like playing mages, but what bored me was that I was stuck in one spot and casting from safety. Staff Ele has what I like about the classic MMO mage and removes the one thing I hate.

I’m VERY eager to see what our specialization will be. I’m really hoping we get a sword for a proper melee weapon. (And it’d fit my character more than any weapon we currently have)

The Earth Atunement convinced me. In the beta, when I was playing an Engineer, I saw this elementalist with a Scepter manipulating the earth to his will, and I was like, “Whoa! This seems neat!”

But then the idea of manipulating the four elements to do something better inspired me. Comboing Ice fields into fire or earth to hit slow moving targets, stuff like that… You can guess that I am a staff elementalist. I like to manipulate the environment in my favor and win the fight this way. But sadly, the Earth Trait Line has been untouched for long (I am looking at the poor 5 points (25) Minor)

The idea of using 20 weapon skills also struck me, as I felt like anything needing such a management was surely having a high skill cap.

Currently, I am running a Staff Diamond Skin build in sPvP. It takes a lot of dedication, but it is surely rewarding at the end. (Possibly top tier MMR)

Ive always played MAGE classes in every MMO Ive played ( Played 70+ MMOs for the past 10 years.) I’am naturally drawn to the arts of magic and how unique it is to conjure a elemental storm or Meteor storm, vs swinging a sword like a raging warrior.

I have always been drawn to the intellectual scholars of the fantasy world. Their habits, style of dress, and attitude fits me perfectly. Elementalist in GW2 does this perfectly (Staff Elementalist that is. I do not like the style of D/D ele, its too Avatar air bender or whatever for me, sorry Nickelodeon). Staff is a true MAGE weapon and every MMO or RPG has a MAGE using a staff.

Playing a Cele Staff Elementalist in PvP has been so rewarding. And PvP and WvW is just as fun! I love the spells a Staff Ele gets, no one can compare to our AoE power and size.

Ele was my first charr i ever made ingame. I didn’t explore the class i just knew i wantes a sylvari ele. I was really surprised by my ele, i loved staff for a year, but then i discovered how awesome scepter/focus is. 2 and a half years later i have warr, ranger, necro and thief, did map completion on all of them, wvw pvp and pve. And i realised, if ele wasn’t my first charr i would probably never make one. Reason is because it’s hard to play class. Knowing your fields, and all other classes aoe in order to blast right and knowing when to blast, stacking boons and do so while being squishy.

I’m glad till today ele is my main because it’s really fun and challenging.

I wanted to be like Aang and Korra!

The appeal was also due to the unique mechanic that the Ele has. We virtually have the ability to fill the role of just about anything needed in a team, and there are aspects that we truly excel at. Plus, who wouldn’t want to manipulate the elements to do his own bidding?

I started playing one simply because Ive played all the other classes.
Im only L25 and to be honest, this class sucks or I do, not sure which.
Far too squishy, and at low levels they dont deal mega DPS, so you die a lot.
Im going to perservere on and hope the class gets better.

My first character was a thief. I always enjoy melee classes, especially with an added element. It’s why my first characters I leveled were a thief and a mesmer.

What appealed to me was the idea of a close quarters elemental combatant. Most games I generally avoid mage classes in favor of those that can get in close for some fun and risky combat. Elementalist did this while adding the flavor of manipulating the elements in each swing.
I mainly play dagger/focus for the added defensive utility, but as I’ve been doing pvp more with the new dailies, dagger/dagger has reemerged as something more than just a weapon set for leveling. Dagger ele just feels so dynamic as you’re always moving, always changing. Playing dagger ele really felt like having the elements in the palm of your hand, and lets you hit someone over the head with it. As ridiculous as it sounds, dagger ele makes combat feel like something out of a comic book.
