Personally i would say a bit of both. I am to have about 16-17k health (pre buffs, like WvW stuff) and then want to have about 1600-1700Toughness,.

The best answer is both which one you value is personal preference. Which one is more important depends on what your goal is.

Speaking of pure eHP, the total HP:Armor ratio should be 10:1. Elementalists start at ~10.000HP and ~1800Armor that means having ~800 more vitality than toughness would be optimal. Theoretically.

But here are the buts:

  • Thoughness also increases the effectiveness of heals.
  • Conditions bypass toughness, but not not vitality.
  • You have to choose from the available stat combos.

More pragmatic PvE advice: Power > all. That leaves Berserker, Valkyrie, Soldier and Zealot. Start with Berserker armor and Soldier trinkets (or the other way round if you can replace the armor more easily) and replace Soldier with Berserker as long as you can keep yourself alive. Keep the soldier stuff in your inventory for the case you have a bad day/have difficulties in a dungeon/want to set foot in WvW.

I can’t wait until ANet releases the game promoted in the manifesto.
Until that, I’ll play GW2.

I think it goes towards what aspect you find yourself having more issues. For me condition based players are a lot easier to deal with now that I switched to focus yet melee very bunker types are a bit harder. My preference towards these 2 stats has changed during the past week. I used to like 16-17k of hp minimum and 2500-2600 of armor. Now I focus a lot more on armor and less on hp. Currently running my very high burst damage dealer spec where my hp is 15.1k fully buffed with WvW bonuses it reaches over 18k and my armor with rock barrier is 31.6k.

With my staff ele I don’t even enter in WvW without 19k+ and 2600+ armor.

When I’m running my support build 0/0/20/20/30 in a zerg I use ptv armor and cleric trinkets and have similar stats, ~18k hp, ~2700 armor. However if you can master proper positioning and use of fire staff 4 with zerker gear you can dish out ridiculous ranged damage. I have been in hammer/anvil zergs with a melee train and a ranged ele group with separate commanders and we would decimate larger zergs, it’s really fun. Playing as a zerker ele in a zerg is one of the most fun things in the game imo.

That being said when I am roaming on my ele as d/d I personally prefer toughness + healing power over vitality. I wouldn’t put just toughness over vit, but when you couple toughness with healing power and the multiple options eles have to heal, you end up with a lot of survivability.

For every 100 points you put in Tuffness, you reduce your damage, i.e. from a 1000 hit
by 380. For every 100 points you put in vitality you get 1000 hitpoints. This is without factors counted in.

The amount for WvW DnD ranges from

16000 to 20000 hitpoint
1300 to 1800 tuffness
400 to 800 healing power

These are the ranges.

So if you given 10 points of stat

I would put 5 in vitality , 3 in tuffness and 2 in healling power

Thats for DnD builds
