Maybe seeking super high damaging builds, isn’t the way the the class was intentionally designed. Instead, a more of a blend of offense, support and defense…

That still doesn’t explain why 1/4th of our total traits are +5-10% more damage.

ArenaNet, either this is bad game design or you lack creativity.

I won’t say it’s good design but I would say it’s a good compromise. Guardians too like eles have an abundance in +damage traits though not as many.

I think the intent of the design was to force and eles and guardians to choose between offense or defense rather than just giving them high base damage which combined with a bunker spec would make them too strong.

Quasi-elitist dungeoneer and missing Gw1 GvGs greatly.
“GW2’s PvE is almost as bad as the PvP.”

Then again, 3/4th of our traits do something else.

If you can read this then it is proof that ArenaNet’s moderators just, kind and fair.

I don’t think the % damage traits are really the issue I feel like most % damage traits are there so you can get damage without feeling like you have to spec into power or critical damage/chance how I see it for many classes. That is at least how I view the purpose of many of the damage traits.

I think D/D is meant to be more on the side of bunker with a focus more on sustained damage vs burst damage given the long cooldowns on the burst skills on the weapon. S/D is suppose to be burst. Staff I am not sure it has CC all over it and can do damage but it isn’t really damage that catches people by surprise.

That doesn’t explain why the Ele has such ridiculously high damage output. They’re clearly meant to be the “nukers” who lay down massive damage but are relatively squishy and need to be protected, so to speak.

Sort of.
If you count traits like, "Flame Barrier’s chance to burn foes goes up the longer you are attuned to fire. "
and
“You have a 20% chance to cause burning whenever a foe attacks you in melee. Only triggers when attuned to fire. "
Something else.
A trait that trigger when you get hit.
On an offensive trait line.
Talk about kitten -tastic.

The fact is, Elementalist has the most poorly designed traits in the game.
For example:
Burning Rage-Deal 5% more damage to burning foes.
Ember’s Might-Deal 5% extra damage to burning foes.

On the same trait line.

That doesn’t explain why the Warrior has such ridiculously high damage output. They’re clearly meant to be the “nukers” who lay down massive damage but are relatively squishy and need to be protected, so to speak.

Fixed.
Glass rangers has more DPS than Elementalists. Hitting 10k criticals on Dragons tooth? By the time that lands, the ranger would have shot 6 arrows, hitting 20k total with spamming hit shortbow #1.

@Nova I think Elementalist have trait trees on par with everyone else. At least the classes I play.

I think you also have to look at each tier of traits. A build might go 30 points into a tree for example but not necessarily grab a grandmaster.

With out question though fire magic is really bad and definitely needs some love.

Fire, Air and Earth needs major rework.

There are only a handful of useful traits. Granted, the handful is good but there is no variety.

The real problem is it requires a knowledgeable player to exploit the damage traits. Most eles seem to be of the support notion so few of them make the zerker leap, let alone the trait stacking leap. Regular eles like to play support or just what they run to WvW cos PvE ez doesn’t matter how fast you finish dungeons mentality.

Maybe that’s because every time a newbie comes by asking how to build their ele for DPS everyone just goes “LMAO ELE HAS NO DPS ROLL WARRIOR LOOK HERE’S A SCREENCAP OF MY WARRIOR’S HB”.

Go ahead and post your HB picture now and get it out of the way.

Umm…Dragon’s tooth isn’t really supposed to be a “surprise!” kind of skill. It’s useful for using on ressers, chokepoints, and siege, but otherwise it’s rather situational.

That said, a nice dragon’s tooth earthquake lightning flash is always lols.
