One of the developers on the livestream tossed out the idea of giving other classes a portal ability. What do you think the chances are that this could come to Elementalists?

It’s a skill that can definitely enhance survivability, so it could be classified as a cantrip possibly? Although all of our cantrips also break stun, so I don’t know how that would fit in.

An Arcane skill? A portal probably wouldn’t use any elemental magic, but all other Arcane skills have an offensive element involved. How would something like Elemental Surge work with it?

A Glyph maybe? Something like:

Fire: People who use the portal are granted might
Air: Granted Swiftness
Water: Granted Regeneration
Earth: Granted Protection

If we do get it, it would probably be an elite skill though.

What do you guys think?

At least it would be a useful elite.

I would love it as elite on a 90s CD, the ones we have now suck. But i also think giving more clases portals will make a mess out off pvp.

Would be great. Especially if you want to spam CoF1 with your ele, would be very helpful in the fire boulders area.

Yeah, I don’t think we need Portal.

We’re mobile enough as it is. Dagger in offhand for either D/D or S/D has a lot of mobility, multiple builds are able to get permanent swiftness, hell, you could even run signet of air with our slow focus weapon if you really wanted. Combined with abilities like lightning flash we’re already incredibly good at roaming.

Giving us Portal as well just doesn’t sit well with me.

I would personally give it to the Engineer… But I have no idea about the Engineer so couldn’t comment on it in detail. I just feel it would fit the theme of the class and help it get a bit more attention from the PvP community as well.

It would be pretty cool even though I don’t think we’re getting one since we can travel from 1 point to another with 2 RTL or even less than 1 (Legacy of the foe fire). Who do you think they will give it to though?

mesmers suck in pve because they’re so powerful in wvw due to portals.

giving portals to ele is like the kiss of death for all other aspects of the game.

Be ready to portal-bot.

Other things that don’t belong in the game in addition to portals:
quickness

To be honest, I don’t really want a portal. Let mesmers have their fun. I rolled an ele for a reason, and that’s not so I can mimic mesmers.

I main both a mesmer and an ele, and believe me we don’t want portal on ele. As someone else pointed out it is a kiss of death as far as balancing goes. Ele is mobile enough as it is anyways. Engineer seems like a more reasonable candidate. Maybe something like a tiny asura gate.

I would be surprised if the Ele were given a portal. They have probably the best mobility in the game which many are complaining is a problem, this would just add even more.

My bet is on Necro, Engineer, or possibly Guardian

It would make Guardian just as powerful. Necro, Engineer or maybe even Ranger. Any other class, absolutely not.

Agreed, people are already foaming at the mouth because of bunker D/D. I feel Eles are in a really good spot (similar to Guardians, Warriors and Thieves) and really don’t need much in the way of buffs save for fixing existing bugs.

Hell, give Engineers some sort of teleportation device. Those poor sods have it worse than anyone (I should know, my first 80 was an Engi") save for maybe Necros.

EDIT: On further contemplation, Fire, Air and Earth could use a good look in terms of increasing their viability. Still, heavy arcane/water builds are fairly versatile and strong.

Needs to be on necro/engi/both. No other professions have any need for it, but the monopoly mesmers have on the portal ability pigeonholes them into this role during tournament play.

Well, maybe portal to some main city, like LA portal for ele is fine On all other mages in other games portal was mage ability, but it was to main city usualy. Tbh i would rather have LA portal then pay up 4 silver every time i go from Orr to LA. ( i know you can go to pvp then LA, but i dont like so many loading screans)

I honestly believe that portals would be better suited to Engineer, as much as I love the idea of portals, we already have one magic user using it- mesmers. If another class is to get it why not have it be engineers? It was the first thing that came to mind as soon as I heard the announcement.

Make it an elite.

It creates a portal based on attunement, and gives those that go on it an aura based on the portal type.
Portal only usable by 5 travels – auras not stacking duration.
