People are making out the profession is completely broken and unplayable, this is not the case.

Tip: Don’t use the staff in sPvP, Aside from that it’s one of the most versatile and enjoyable professions you can play.

Note: The learning curve is quite steep and it WILL TAKE PRACTICE. Don’t just expect to go into games and own people straight away.

for pvp it isnt completely broken and unplayable. Does well in PVE, excels at WvW but lacks in sPVP/tPVP compared to other roamers especially. It is simply lacking in just a few key areas which most have stated. No need to exaggerate here.

Yes it takes practice, and yes there are new eles that dont learn the class well before coming here, but there are also very skilled and well practiced eles that still recognize some of the issues.

I should also add that you should try to stay out of the water on Raid of the Capricorn, Elementalists really struggle underwater. Use it for escape purposes only.

It’s good overall you just have to forget about actually killing people cause the specs that can do that have no defence whatsoever. Just do your darndest to stay alive and cap points.

I can kill any class in 1v1 besides:

Mesmers – I have about a 30-40% win rate against them.
Guardians (Hammer Spec) – I have about a 20-25% win rate against them.
Warriors – I have about a 50% win rate against them.

The class is NOT bad. I would venture to say it’s middle of the pack. It has some problems, but so does every class. Fix ride the lightning plx. The class has less damage than other classes, this is true. It is also true that the class has less static defense than other classes.

Elementalists strength relies on their ability to kite, dispel conditions, and control the opponent. I challenge you to find another class that has more control than a staff or d/d elementalist. Shock Aura, Frost Aura, Earthquake, Updraft, Magnetic Grasp, and Frozen Burst are all control skills present on D/D alone. Throw in Signet of Earth and Signet of Water, and you have all the control to completely control an entire fight. Between the opponent being constantly immobilized, stunned, knocked down, and frozen you have all the time in the world to line up burst rotations and burns. If it’s a tank spec, use conditions to blast through toughness, if they are a squishy class, gain the initial control.

Some kiting is obviously necessary, but I can honestly say the only class I fear in a 1v1 is a really good mesmer. Yes, I lose to other classes, but I rarely lose to a warrior, ranger, or necro. The class is middle of the pack at worst.

This is in sPvP, so they already have equal gear but nice try. If it is requested I will make a video of me doing sPvP and owning people as an elementalist.

I would LOVE to see a video of you owning people and not just irritating them. Feel free not to just include the good ones, and have your game clock on. Kyros posted a great video of a great player playing a decent class. I’m in no way arguing against you, i agree that the class is okay, it’s just not on par with others.

@OP: Yes the class isn’t COMPLETELY broken and unplayable. You will find just enough enjoyment to wish that Arenanet would make fixing the class a priority so you can play on the same level as everyone else. But until then i’d take the time you could spend banging your head against a wall, or if you will “learning the curve”, and play a class that you will actually have more fun playing. Anything really.
