Guy, they use that build because that is the ONLY way they can stay alive because we have NO damage and NO health! Do you read this forum?

Have you actually fought a bunker selfheal spamming thieves? They are just as unkillable as a bunker ele or guard, but nobody specs that way because they actually have a viable damage spec. Same goes for warriors they have a pretty amazing bunker spec too but an even more amazing damage spec.
It’s completely unfun to play against bunkers, you’re no threat and simply do nothing except waste my time

And yes, bunkers are silly no matter what class is bunkering at the minute. I can’t really blame people for using them, given the objective holding focus of the game, and the fact that you have to be better than the average thief to not get blown up by his burst, but that doesn’t make the situation any less ridiculous.
And no, not everyone complaining about poor damage is playing a bunker. I’d say it’s probably pretty reasonable to assume that a lot of people have said ‘flux this, if I can’t do any damage anyway, I might as well just build for pure survivability, and at least then there’ll be a good reason for my damage being terrible’. It’s not a mentality I personally subscribe to, but what you need to remember is that 90% of people playing any given game at any given time are probably not very good, so the path of least resistance is what gets chosen (hence the collossal amount of thief/war/mes in hotjoin 8v8).
You can’t blame eles for migrating to bunker/tanky builds we simply don’t have good damage specs (at least none that work for me). If you spec damage on an ele be prepared to eat dirt, a lot. Eles have few good spec options so you’re going to see the same type of builds over-and-over-and-over again.
How many eles don’t run with at least 20 in Arcane? They need to turn several of the arcane abilities into ele class features in order to open up the spec options.
I think a 9 sec cooldown on each attunement without speccing into Arcane would be awesome… This would allow for more build diversity right there.
ANY bunker build from any profession can be annoying/difficult to fight against. Don’t blame Ele’s for being forced into tanky builds, more damage orientated specs are a death sentence. I play a fairly tanky D/D build and I LOVE KILLING warriors and thieves, I haven’t lost a 1v1 yet (or even the 2v1 I had against a warrior and thief yesterday). I can just imagine the rage when a warrior tries that bull rush + hundred blades crap on me and I promptly turn around and plant them on their behind.

LOL. There’s no way you 1v2’d a competent warrior and thief. Also bullrushing frenzied warriors usually have endure pain active so you can’t do kitten to him.
Oh just yesterday I killed 5 people in a 1v5 and was capturing 3 points at the same time too.

The warrior was most definitely a better player than the thief (the thief blew all his iniative heartseeker spamming me while I dodged lol) but it still stands. I’ve won many 2v1’s, Warrior + Thief, Ranger + Guardian, 2 x Guardians, Ranger + Ele. And these were all level 80 players, I did speak to the warrior, only to thank him for the good fight, didn’t ask him what his exact setup was, he was using GS/Rifle.
I specifically spec and play my ele for 1 vs many encounters, purely because I hate zerging. So I roam around looking for good fights against good players. Why do people think Warriors are so good and ele’s are so bad, Warriors are so predictable and easy to counter, same with the other professions.

Bukers are hard to kill, that´s the whole point of them.
And they won´t go away if someone doesn´t come up with a good strategy to completely annihilate current bunkers+roamers meta.

@Loco you’re talking about WVW? Ok then. Seeing as gear plays a HUGE role there you’re argument is invalid for sPVP were you won’t have a chance against a warrior and a thief.

If you’re referring SPVP and Tournament play I cant understand how an ele who is defending a point solo is no threat. Surely he’s a massive threat to your team as he’s freeing up another attacker or defender for another point.
Also with the right Cantrip bunker build we can kill. I normally have between 5-10 kills per round and have 25 stacks of power from Sigil of bloodlust. (5 per kill) by the end of a round. Plus I dont die so I can apply more pressure to my opposing team. To be honest I think we’re a bloody big threat. Spvp is not all about killing.

every tried Sigil of Battle? I liked Sigil of bloodlust but i tried combining Sigil of Battle with the firetrait giving 3 stacks of might per cantrip and that works like a charm to :P

I use that on my main and the Bloodlust on the offhand. I’m not sure if it’s efficient or +5%dmg would be better but it’s nice having a stack of power on your buff bar.
Didn’t know people still spent 1 point on fire.

I do consider it winning a fight if I can tie up 2 or more of the other team’s players indefinitely. I can also apply enough pressure through DoTs and dps to make anyone run away, or blow their heals and condition removals so when more of my team shows up the enemy is nice and softened up for the bursters.
Wanna know what annoys me? Thieves who abuse the rendering issues to remain untargetable permanently. You might not be able to kill a bunker elementalist, but at least you can see one to try.
Bunker elementalist is our only viable build because apparently dragons tooth>phoenix>fire grab was too hard to dodge so we have weak burst now, and thieves highest spike damage hit costs no initiative and is basically spammable. Sure, let me just build so backstab crits on me for 15k but my biggest damage combo adds up to much less and would be dodgable by an octogenarian playing on a 28k dialup connection from Siberia. Sounds fun….. I mean, no thanks, I’ll stick to bunker till they fix our damage.

This exactly, we rather go for something viable than just be a free dish of food for all the theifs and mesmers running around.
My ele is bunker, because when I went full damage it was fun, but I could only fight 1 on 1 and this is a team game. Clearics is 13k hp not 14, recently changed to clerics amulet with knights jewel for a delicious 15k hp, nom nom nom.
Don’t know where you are going with the we can’t kill anything part, I can down warriors and thieves (glass cannons are much easier, balanced can still do but takes a bit and bunker is usually endless lol).
Clerics also gives you decent power, so we lack crit and crit damage, but gain raw damage still. My toon also carrys 1 of each amulet as that seems to be the only thing that gives you stats. So if there is a thief that can do silly things and I cant get around it → Knights, if there is a warrior who dies easily and doesn’t seem to do much damage → beserkers. If someone doesn’t remove my 8 stacks of bleeding from churning earth → carrion or shamans.
When I run S/D I don’t use final shielding, 25% endurance regen is much better for my build. I also use shamans for the healing power and condition damage.
Adept
- Arcane Mastery. – not using arcane skills
- Arcane Resurrection – not running aura build and due to being a bunker usually alone
- Arcane Retribution – bugged, lasts for 1 skill 2 if your lucky (or less then 5 sec if you don’t use a skill)
- Final Shielding – using this
- Elemental Attunement – using this
- Renewing Stamina – no crit chance
Master
- Vigorous Scepter – take this over final shielding when using a scepter
- Blasting Staff – not using staff
- Windborne Dagger – wow, 15% faster movement cause I dont have perm swiftness already. If it stacked or was 25% like thieves I would take this
- Arcane Energy – not using arcane or signets
Grandmaster
- Evasive Arcana – amazing, in my build
- Elemental Surge – don’t use arcane, looks interesting though
So those eles with their final shielding. Get them to 30% hp then kill them in 1 hit, no arcane shielding. Or even hit them below 25% and then again to 0% within a second or 2 and their shield will bug out and fail.

I mean really? With so many bunkers in the current meta do we really need eles who go around using a tanking/healing s/d build?
I’m just wondering what people hope to achieve running around with 14k HP, cleric jewel, 30 water, 3 cantrips+final shielding.
You simply become an annoyance, you won’t kill anything even during full focus fire, you chase people down despite having your best combo rotation dealing something like 20-30% HP dmg.It’s completely unfun to play against 90% of the current eles, you’re no threat and simply do nothing except waste my time, eles by far can self-heal better than a warrior and thief combined if geared that way, I’d rather go against those two alone when I know to have a good chance to down them both rather than fightning your common s/d ele, who I know will waste 5 mins of my time accomplishing nothing as he tries to kill me with the 2-3k dmg updraft/dragon’s tooth combo or the 800 dmg lightning strike.

Also running a bunker build variation (not that there’s a lot of versatility possible, but…..) since it’s our only viable build.. I try to be as annoying as I possibly can be..
Still, as an Ele, I get focused on like there’s no tomorrow..
A friend was playing SPVP with me the other day and he was in the opposing team for 3 matches. His remarks on TS:
- Lol, the moment my team sees you, you get crosshaired, so all I do is press T and hope I can get a hit in before you’re down, lololol!! Free kill!
Seems like the Ele Icon next to my name is a sign with easy kill on it..
If you talk 1vs1 on the other hand, I don’t have issues besides low damage, ,but I don’t mind taking a bit longer to kill someone really..

I think most S/D don’t run Cleric. S/D have amazing burst heal thou. And being tanky is probably the only viable option for roaming ele at the moment. Do you prefer to get jumped by any class (thief, mesmer, warrior or even guardian) and blow up instantly or to heal up and win a sustained fight?
Yes, our dmg is bad and even with offensive dmg spec it won’t make a different because you will rarely have a chance to do any dmg.
