Liane Frostfire – Elementalist [TWP] Ilona Frostfire – Mesmer [TWP]
Enya Frostfire – Mesmer [OMFG]
Seems like elementalists have basically died out from soloque, hotjoin and tpvp. Save the occasional r1 staff ele who will ragequit 10 minutes after creating his toon.
All you eles left, raise a hand. I wanna know whats left of us u.u
I still do loads of hotjoins, just for fun and pass the time really.
I still tinker with builds and different gears. Mainly stuck with D/D because I just enjoy it, and for all the shortcomings of the ele, I find the cheese scepter fresh air builds to be unfair for the enemy.
As for playing competitively – no point with an ele.
I still do my Pvp dailies as ele, I also get top team points sometimes. What i can say is that, as ele, you have to choose your battles carefully. Hop in if you know you can do a difference (like 2 bunkers at each others with no end in sight).
But I would also like to have a sense that Im competitive in 1v1, as I just avoid em…

I don’t find it unfair at all. Gale -> DT -> Phoenix -> Air spike sure hurts as hell but air spike by itself does nothing. It’s fun when you team up with a warrior to help you force out all the opponent’s stunbreaks/stabs and you could take grounded instead of fresh air and deal 75% of someone’s health or insta-downing them in a ghetto ranged but stealthless thief sort of way, but you won’t ever beat someone in 1v1 unless they are bad/get caught with stunbreaks on CD.
The other problem is, you only need 1 of such a dedicated roamer and S/D thief is so much more safe and less risky to play.
The only pros to playing scepter ele over thief roamers are:
+ Rezzing denial + punishment
+ Wiping spirits + turrets
+ Potential to down someone faster than a thief can
+ AoE might stacks
while the cons are too many.
Staff ele is still my favorite hotjoin character, and I have used staff for the great majority of my ~2050 matches played with ele. Will do tournaments again when the game is more balanced. Though I think I could do pretty well right now, it is just not worth it to exert 10x the effort as an ele to compete against the faceroll builds in tournament scenario.
Raising hand ! ~hype~
*raises hand* S/D here. Been using an extreme burst build for tPvP recently (20/30/10/0/10), but still messing around with others in hotjoins.
D/F ele doing lots of soloq
D/F here, my only trouble is to be the main ennemy’s focus (same in WvW). Being pretty is so hard sometimes. Although that helped me increase my skills.
I play Staff Bunker.
I absolutely hate seeing an Engineer bunker. They can kill me while being more survivable along with having a lot of knockback/pull. It’s stupid.
I play a lot in tpvp with my ele, it can fit every role!
When i want a dps i join with my thief, when i want conditions i join with my nerco, if i’m in a mood for bunker i join with my engineer and if i’m in a mood for trolling people that’s a mesmer job.
As i said, my 500+h elementalist joins a lot right now
Eh my ele just melt in less than 5 second. Unfortunately i like to capture the objectives rather than get into a fight, so im often caught in situations without any support.
i play D/D ele atm, but the rage i feel when im killed by autoattacking ranger with spirits or by hammer warrior with 3 hits even if i dodge his previous 2 attacks is huge…
i really dont see some balance reasons behind dmg, hp etc… heavy prof 18k base hp, more dmg, self heal, control and probably even everything else then light prof with 10k base hp… hmmm…
when i remember what ANet said before release about balance and no holy trinity and every profession being equal in everything what they do with only the difference how they do it when i see the actual state… then im a sad panda…
Raising hand too S/D Fresh Air , Riding the lightning (metallica reference got me into the off hand dagger, not changing it for the world xD) , burning my foes, and well … running away from warriors, sometimes :P xD I love playing my ele, my main and favorite, I got the hang of it and it’s F-ing amazing.
D/D bunker hot joiner here. I’m a glutton for punishment but I still enjoy the playstyle. I do, however, get absolutely wrecked by condi necros. They are literally a hard counter to me. Also have a very hard time with LB warriors that seem to be the new FOTM.
raises hand D/D Bursty dps here. Solo Queue. Still works brilliantly if you pick your fights and/or initiate well. Can’t god mode no more.
I sort of put it on hold but i do love to watch other people play on duel servers. I just need practise on my alts before i get in again.
You have to hand it to them : Anet never said they strive for balance between classes (like blizzard did : we love all classes equally). What they wanted is a competitive pvp scene instead, no matter the damage they do to class mechanics. I think i was the very first person to comment (about a year ago) that the elementalists will always be pegged to the dps the very best players in the world can pull off. If that’s not you but you feel strongly about winning, then look elsewhere.
GW2 is a bargain. Bargains often come with a price : in our case 5 months of no tweaks. They clearly used up the allocated dev time on eles.
I still do solo/team for daily & more if I feel like it as a staff ele. I tell you it’s so hard… I think in last 100 matches, I only see 1 staff ele besides me. I don’t even see too many D/D either nowadays.
