[JCM] Guild: Ehmry Bay WvW
Hey all just recently started my ele, I usually play a power precision toughness toon, like my 80 necro and was wondering if that spec would work on an ele? I have heard a lot of mixed info on the ele forums.
Evasive Arcana, this ability sounds bad kitten, is it worth it? I was thinking of at least going 20 points into arcana till I read this ability now I don’t know if I should go 30 or not.
I’m trying to decide between a tanky ele build (which sounds like a blast) of 10 air 20 earth 2" water and 20 arcana or a Crit Crit damage toughness build… If I have 0 points in fire and 10 in air with knights gear (power precision toughness) as D/D or S/D will my damage be terrible? I like the sound of a Tanky build but I don’t want to hit like a kitten…

You can go Power/Precision/Toughness as long as you stack a bit of Vitality somewhere else like the 20 points in Water traits that you mention, and make sure you make proper use of our CC’s and various defensive utility skills. Necro has the highest HP pool in the game and a second life bar and great defensive tool with death Shroud, while Ele has the lowest HP pool, so the playstyle will be a bit different. As for Evasive Arcana I don’t use it myself but many people do simply because it can produce a lot of great combo finishers, so if you’re going for a Staff build I’d definitely think about taking it, although with other weapon combos I’m not sure it’d be worth it over other traits.
Don’t know much about eles in PvE, but I do know what this does.

I use Clerics Amulet / Shamans Amulet and 2 Runes of Monk (heal power 15% boon duration) 2 runes of water (heal power + 15% boon duration) and 2 runes of earth (condition damage + 20% protection duration). The idea for runes came from another elementalist on the forums, I tried it and find the protection last quite a long time. Weapon has a rune of energy (50% endurance back on weapon swap [attunement swap for us eles])

He uses full healing power gear and runes of dwayna in sPvP (when using a heal skill you give regen to others as well as regen duration)
What you want to know about evasive arcana is that dodge rolls are blast finishers. Each dodge has a internal cd of 9 seconds, so you cant dodge twice for a double heal. But you can change attunement, so you can do a fire dodge then swap water and do a water dodge one after another. Also for some reason, 2 dodges in a row are both considered blast finishers. So you don’t get 2 cleansing waves in a row, but you do get 1 cleansing wave with a blast finisher then a second blast finisher if you dodged again in water. With rune of energy (pvp rune) you get 50% endurance back on swap (9sec cd), if your using a staff then you put down your Healing Rain (staff 5) then arcane blast dodge, dodge, change attunement dodge for 4 blast finisher aoe heals + cleansing wave. If you start with eruption first then you have 5 blast finisher heals as well as 1 cleansing wave.
Edit: you will hit like a kitten with this build, I normally swap in dagger dagger and berserks amulet for extra damage as the protection duration and heals keep me up for a while.

Even if the actual Evasive Arcana effect is on CD, you do get both blast finishers. So you can dodge twice immediately in Water attunement, get the heal, and both give a blast finisher.
I honestly don’t know much about PvE, but in terms of PvP Power/Healing Power/Toughness are what you would likely want to shoot for. We have such a low HP pool that stacking vit doesn’t really get us anywhere, and toughness makes healing power scale better. Combined with our healing skills on every set, it’s the obvious choice for survivability. Just makes playing the class more active. Low HP can effectively be dealt with by condition damage, but taking the 30 in Water for 2 condition removals when you swap to Water + Cleansing Fire tends to take care of that.
Remove condition on regen + Glyph of renewal gives regen in water + dwayna set gives regen on heal = 2 conditions removed on heal + a third if you swap into water whilst healing. So many conditions removed
I run a semi glass cannon Staff build, if your going for Staff for me Blasting Staff is a must have I’m 30/10/0/0/30, using quick glyphs in lightning, might stacking fire, arcane blast and arcane missile as utility and it works wonders, I’m not doing bad for health on 14k, however Evasive Arcana I find works alot better with the staff as your able to combo blast whenever you like rather than rushing over to a field. Using Pyromancer Puissance, getting to 6 stacks of might then dropping two on fire dodging into it then hitting arcane blast cna get you upto 16 stacks of might, you can do the same into healing rain for a double aoe regen heal.
