Evasive arcana - should it be inherent?
I went one step further and suggested merging Elemental Attunement, Lingering Elements AND Evasive Arcana.

OP or not it makes sense and would finally remove the Elephant in the room.

The problem with Evasive Arcana is that is allocated on grandmaster tier and is such a powerfull defensive tool that most eles won’t give up unless real DPS is put in fire or air traitlines.
Making EA more powerfull does not make any sense. It only forces us more into arcana.
I like this, but I highly, highly doubt it’d happen. Ideally, I’d want:
*flat 10 sec recharge rate
*elemental attunement
*evasive arcana (without the internal cooldown change someone else suggested… the way the cooldown works now seems fine to me and encourages attunement swapping)
*endurance regen in the arcane trait line?
I would not want the boon duration reduced by half, though… I already have to use boon duration runes, as I rely so heavily on them. Granted, the above changes would reduce the reliance on them for damage output, but reducing the duration on everything would potentially ruin the positive effects of the changes.
Why not just leave EA where it is like it is currently. It fits the Arcana line benefits your build no matter what attunement you are in that is why people like Arcana and the traits that are in Arcana.
If EA was moved down people wouldn’t go 30 points into Arcana. Then you would have elemental surge and? I can’t think of anything else that would be awesome to go 30 in arcana for. The replacement trait probably wouldn’t be that good unless it was some +60 to all stats and 12 critical damage basically divinity runes in trait is the only thing I can think of that fits the theme or arcana and is attractive.
So we would have a 2 GM traits in Arcana that people wouldn’t take. EA could move down IF elemental attunement was buffed to like 10 second base duration on boons. In the end though it looks like reshuffling for no reason.
It is like making build diversity at the sake of 30 in Arcana. It is like mesmer for example there are builds that go 30 points in Dueling but nobody actually takes a Grandmaster trait in dueling most times they take an adept or master trait at Grandmaster because the choices at adept and master are better. It is always Phantasmal fury, duelist discipline, deceptive evasion, blade training, or far-reaching manipulations are always better choices than any of the GM traits. That is basically what would happen to Arcana.
I’d be willing to settle for the mechanics changing slightly, like being unable to trigger it twice in a row in the same attunement.
It already works that it has a 10 sec icd if you are in the same attunement. That is plenty as is now because nobody really sits in a attunement longer than 10 seconds and the ones that you would want to use more than twice in a row are water and earth in a fire field. The rest are just ok.

Ele needs some buffs, but you guys are getting a bit crazy with the trait requests.

I can actually see your point here. I think out the new traits coming out and I never ever consider leaving EA for them. I was think “Oh, that 20 point fire trait for cleansing would be nice. Or maybe 30 in Earth! But I need 15 in water and 30 in arcane to have any sort of survivability…Darn..”
Semi-related but they need to bring the air and fire Evasive Arcana skills up to par so there actually is a reason to tumble without switching into either earth or water.
Few ideas on that matter. Change fire’s flame burst to a shorter duration ring of fire. Possibly even a smaller radius. Change Air to be a single tick of static field, stunning people around you for 1 second(instead of the 2 seconds from the real thing).
But on topic, making those EA skills even better would only cement the need to go 30 into arcana. Maybe split it up and make them each an adept or master trait in their respective lines, IE, going 20 points into water grants cleansing wave on tumble and so on for the other elements. Obviously that can’t be the only change because then all that would change would be people would need to put x points in earth and water instead of 2x points into arcana.

The fact that most traitlines don’t have 2 viable GM traits is a problem in itself. EA is a trait that every Elementalist should have right now and I would argue that just giving it to us for free is far better than any other solution, especially since 20 points in Arcane is essentially mandatory, and 10 in water will no longer get you active condition removal.
What you forgot to mention is that Evasive Arcane is fun. It turns your passive staff into an active, quick reflexes weapon with a lot of extra (combo) options because of the extra blast finisher, heal and blind.
To me, it’s mandatory simply because I like the playstyle that comes with it. I don’t mind if it was inherent, but it may be better to keep it the way it is, because it represents a playstyle choice as much as a signet or conjure build would be.

Sorry I didn’t explain as in depth as in the thread I linked, what I was trying to get across was actually merging the traits, removing them entirely and building it in as a class mechanic.
In hindsight that is a little OP, perhaps scale it back and make the new and corrected Lingering Elements an Arcana Grandmaster trait that works across the board with all 5,15 and 25 traits.

This is really true. I was screwing around yesterday and was running a 100% burst build which didn’t have elemental attunement or evasive arcana, and it was horrible. It didn’t even feel like I was playing an elementalist. So much of the play/counterplay that makes the class what it is was gone. It was as boring as playing a warrior.

EA shouldn’t be inherent, but should take up 5-point minors. Now you have to trait to get each one you want, and they are all pretty decent. The water 5-point minor could be an adept trait, and the rest are terrible and can disappear anyway.

Both the earth blast finisher and the air blind are quite useful too. :-)

I was saying our current 5-point minors are underwhelming, except for soothing mist. Earth might be decent if it works with Lingering Elements, and fire could be o.k. for condi build (although still pretty bad). Air 5-point minor doesn’t even exist in my mind – we have so many swiftness/speed buffs that over-write this, and 10% might as well be nothing.
Every EA skill is good an has its uses – even fire can be a nice little bit of damage (and burning?). I do utilize all 4 of them, and would prefer them over most 5-point minors. I also wouldn’t feel required to go 30 into arcana to get the survivability (heal + cleanse) from water.
The fire/earth pbaoes have several uses actually, even without counting the blast finisher on earth. Popping blocks, stopping downed healing, and for fire, setting up a fire grab in a way most people don’t see coming.

As op as the thread name sounds, this actually gets at the heart of ele problems. Right now, nearly 100% of our sustainability is bottle up in 3 traits: evasive arcana, healing ripple, and elemental attunement. Splitting up the HEALING portion of evasive arcana into smaller parts in the arcana or water minor traits would alleviate having to go all or nothing in arcana. For instance, you could get a small heal along with fury on attunement swap for 5 minor (say 250 hp), and have arcane precision give a 20% chance to heal you for 500 hp on hit (in water attunement), with 10s icd. Then reduce the healing of evasive arcana by half.
