Exotic d/d for WvW roaming
You do not need ascended for Armour. But you will need celestial for trinkets which you get free with laurels.
Also its not hard to get ascended armour for all items. Just takes time and gold
I’m aware of all of that. I should have clarified better. The roaming build woikd be for a second account with NO laurels since I used this accounts laurels to buy heavy crafting bags to feed my main account. I basically have no access to ascended anything unless I spend gold crafting, save laurels for a while or join a guild for comendations and fractals.
Without actually using Celestial gear, you can’t expect to have a “respectable” roaming setup. Celestial gear has a larger stat budget than other stat distributions, so it’s not possible to recreate without Celestial gear.
If you are willing to be subpar, then you can mix & match different stat combinations to get a similar build to Celestial. But don’t expect it to be as effective, especially in exotic gear.
d/d runs cele gear and thats realy good. I play about 3 month now, don´t have ascended or legandary and run exotic. I use S/F and it works OK. Due to lack of skill after the short playtime there are some classes (Necro, condi mesmer, d/d ele) i loose but others work pretty well. I have a zerker staff in my back in WvW.
Aww. just lost to staff ele … He constantly pinned me in his lava font, Felt like having 5 imobilize XD ..

Staff roaming is very dependent on stunning/immobilizing you before a burst. Burst typically consists of Lava Font, Lightning Strike (from Air and from Lightning Rod), potentially Meteor (though rarely a full cast), and Arcane Wave/Arcane Blast. It’s actually pretty easy to counter if you’re not being too aggressive.
If you play too aggressively you play right into their hands. Staff’s stuns depend on you running into their casts. Assume they are always trying to catch you in a static or a wall and use Stability/Blink wisely. If you counter this play, they are incredibly easy to counter.
Why don’t you show some self initiative, mix together some armor/trinkets you think are reasonable and post it here? I’d gladly help you and mention my own thoughts to improve your build then. But you’re basically saying “pls do all the work for me, thank you”.

Loosing to a staff ele is quite an achievement.
Well it surpriesed me too :-). Guess i did mess all timing. I usually challenge them without much fear. I just need to stay mobile/doge but in that case i got constantly pinned/slowed. Dodged the static at the beginning but then …
It happens. Yesterday a thief did beat me. I am not good enough in targeting. Need to speed up turning when he constantly runs through/behind me or cloaks …. Have the same problem with warriors and this costs me seconds of damage application :-/.
Today i wil set mouse turning to maximum speed an try that ….
As is said, i am more or less a rookie with my two month WvW and thre in GW2. Just a bit over rank 40 is not much :-). I am happy to have about 50% win rate after that short time.

Uh, I wasn’t trying to be mean, just stated the point of view as I play staff ele and so many skills have long casting times, it’s really hard to actually finish the channels.
It also depends a lot on the gear the ele is using, zerker staff is suicide in small scale combat, cele is okay. If you play S/F, use the interrupts on anything important such as the heal if they use ether renewal (my ele vs D/P thief is gg right from the start).
Some staff skills also fail a lot due to uneven terrain, earth 5 (immob) so dance around small bumps or Los and you avoid those easily.
Don’t feel bad for having little wvw experience, I got tons of hours in wvw and my kamikadze ele still dies a lot ^ ^
The only good interrupt i can land is a 50s cooldown knockdown in air. My defence are a good bunch of blinds and absobing the zerk burst with stone heart :-). I rotate air/fire/earth. Water does not offer me much, I don´t cast spells in duels that won´t hit like dragon tooth, comet and shatterstone. Main elements are air and earth. Rotation through fire gives a great boost using the double fire aura (traited in air for furry + swiftness) and landing phönix + firewall. Its one second in fire for a great boost.
But we drift away from the theme ^^.
I have no idea to make a d/d ele work well without celestial gear. you can try mixing rampager + carrion gear + toughness in your rune for a agressive hybrid build.
Maybe like that.
Should be easy to get, will hit and burn hard. But healing will be less than cele.
In air you can also take bolt to the heart.
