FIX ride the lightning
Huh? What is wrong with a skill that lets you move 1200 in like a second?
Or are you talking about how sometimes it won’t end when it hits someone? If so, then yes I agree, it should end the second it collides with its target.

You can get stuck too often for no apparent reason not moving while in ride the lightning form. Its like stunning yourself for like 1-3 sec.
RTL has terrible pathing in the way that it currently predicts the path the player is moving in and assumes the player will continue moving in said direction. RTL picks a spot accordingly on that path and sends you on your way. All the character/mob has to do is change direction and RTL is kittened thus leaving you immobilized for the remaining duration of RTL. Also will target non aggressive monsters in PvE if they are withing range and Players pets in sPvP.
No matter whose side you’re on in the “ele is OP/UP/fine” debate, this is unquestionable.

Needs a fix indeed. Hate getting stuck in Ride the Lightning, and not being able to do anything. Also crashes into really random targets sometimes, like when I have 2 unselected enemies in range. 1 being right in front of me, the other somewhere to the far right, and instead of going up to the one in front of me it goes to the other one.=/
Magnetic Grasp, too. Don’t even use it at all because I can’t afford to gamble whether or not I’m going to end up CCing myself for several seconds at a time, just hanging in the air unable to do anything or launching myself past the target and into whatever ugliness is on the other side.
People have been calling for this fix for months… I don’t think I’ve even heard an acknowledgement of the issue, never mind a ‘hey we’re working on it’ type statement.
Magnetic grasp is buggy as well, not as often as rtl but definitely screwy. ever use it in clock tower?
Even burning speed seems to shoot in odd directions as well. But a lot of people would be happy if they fixed rtl.
Use it without a target when you want to travel 1200 units in a specific direction, otherwise use it at your own peril.
An easy fix would be giving it a detonate option to end the ability.
Turn off the “autotarget on skill use” please. It’s more dangerous than useful.
And yeah, better pathing and/or a “detonate” option.

RtL can’t be fixed now. Because Anet is busy fixing some another minor bugs and nerfing other elementalist’s skills.

I find myself literally going in the opposite direction of my target now for some weird reason. There is some serious pathing problems that need to be addressed very soon. It has been 1 1/2 months since release and the situation hasn’t really gotten a lot better.
The situation hasn’t gotten better at all, Art, and RTL has been broken since beta. It’s crap, and really poor performance on ANet’s part.
At least give immunity to damage during it so we don’t end up getting ourselves killed anymore.

Fix this please, I have been killed countless times in WVW because instead of working, Ride the lightning stunned me for 3 seconds.

It probably wouldn’t be much of an exaggeration to say that the one thing which gets me killed the most while playing s/d is RTL bugging out.

It also need to actually follow people not go in a straight line, i find myself juking d/d eles constantly by running in one direction for a short time to make the AI think my trajectory is in that area.

My main issue is that, for the love of God, why does Ride the Lightning have to auto-target? When I’m running away from a group of people, guess what?! My Ride the Lightning decides to turn me right around and attack the nearest person. Mind you, I deselect all targets just to try and keep this from happening, and it’s just a complete 50/50 chance whether or not I’ll fling myself to life or death.
Kevingway, go to options and turn off Autotargeting.

In general the elementalist is underpowered at least I think so sure you can be good if you know what you are doing but honestly its alot easier to own on PvP/PvE with a guardian or warrior than it is with an elementalist…
Sorry, but I like auto targetting for all my other skills. So turning off auto targetting for RTL should not be mandatory.
They fixed all the other skills like X skill won’t cast behind the player no more. Why not RTL? Make it so RTL has to have a target selected OR it will try to auto target an enemy IN FRONT of the player, OR don’t allow it to auto target at all. I can live with any of those options.

Fix needs to include collision detection for the target only, if no collision detected keep moving forward. You should never not be moving while in RtL unless you’re running the skill into a non-targetable object.
Fix should also include a detonate function, which would cancel the skill. This is in case RtL gets “juked”, so you don’t end up flying way past your target if you don’t want to.

This should be on the toplist of priority fixes for the elementalist. Ride the lightning bugs out in some many ways and in such ways that it might just get you killed.
Anet: Just put a detonate option while traveling to stop the spell while you properly fix the bug. Like a betafix (?)
Its amazingly frustrating in a close battle and ride the lightning or magnetic grasp doesn’t work and you end up cc’ed for a few seconds. It almost makes a close combat elementalist unplayable in pvp. Please fix these abilities so that if a target is selected you actually end up on the target or have a cancel button that gets you out of the ability if you end up missing the target. I"m really tired or being stuck in place while the enemy gets a good chance to beat you down or set up an attack.

Doesn’t makes sense. Why can I have auto target on in PvP and deselect my target to RTL away and it not target a player but will target a pet if it’s within range? I like having auto target on for Drakes Breath and Cone of Cold.
I hate riding backwards into people. In times where you would have gotten away safe, you actually kill yourself because you forgot you still had something targeted. I want it to always go the way I’m facing. There are plenty of times when you cannot de-target fast enough in WvW.

This happens to me to, I smash deselect target and usually a rangers pet or Chieftain/Svania in pvp will hit me and make me target them. A solution is to turn off auto targeting but then you will need to manual target everything or it will always miss. This was fine on my ele but had to turn it back on for my warrior (kept missing eviscerate)

I’ll take the ability to escape like a boss (since that + traveling is all RTL is good for) rather than lazy target selecting any day. Eles need to stay alive, because going down is a death sentence. RTL helps you make a VERY quick getaway when kitten gets hairy.
That’s not to say it doesn’t need to be fixed, because it DEFINITELY needs to be fixed. I just believe the escape mechanic outweighs auto-targeting

That’s because RTL doesn’t use a targeting circle, it goes towards your selected target. If you don’t have one selected it will go straight ahead, so you have to deselect first to avoid going backwards.
What auto targeting does is automatically select a target for you if you don’t already have one when you use an ability, which in the case of RTL will send you flying towards an enemy when you might be trying to use it as an escape.
I want patch notes to be like;
“Now you can control the direction of RTL and you can jump”
rhodoc, you can already control the direction of RTL. Turn of autotargeting. Make sure you don’t have anyone targeted (click off somewhere) and your RTL will go in direction you’re facing.
Now if you want ot control RTL’s PATH (so once you’re actuall in lighting form you want to be able to turn mid ride) I don’t see that ever happening. I just want them to change it so you don’t hang in the air once your enemy changes direction….let me RTL in that direction until the end. Easy peasy.
Sometimes auto targeting can’t be turned off, which renders you unable to flee with it.
I`d like this fixed also.
Currently it`s a pain to have to double tap blank screen (assuming there is any ;p) just to lose target, knowing you`ll more then likely get stunned anyway.
I have found the perfect use for it lately though….
I use signets, get aggro, mobs stand right next to me & then I use it.
Well, only way it guarantees (90%) of the time) it works as it`s meant to.

/Signed 20X over this skill is getting me destroyed when used on mobs that are moving and players ha good one. No chance.

And DivineBeing, No No No. Do not make it where rtl has to have a target selected that would screw half the use of RTL big time.
