It resets RTL and Updraft? I got a parked 80 elementalist and was going to gear her up and go with a zerky build.

Was thinking s/d for it and 30 air for fresh air for what I said above. That seems solid?

Assume you do that then swap over to earth 4 then fire 2?

Fresh Air doesn’t reset the skill recharges, it resets the atunement recharge so you can swap to air every 5 seconds. This allows you to pull off the burst of a double lightning strike every 5-ish seconds. I’m assuming you plan to use your ele for PvE based on your description. I played s/d ele for a while but switched to mainhand dagger (staff if I need range) because the sustained dps of scepter is pretty poor. People often use scepter for might stacking then swap to lightning hammer for damage. I have seen some eles mainly using s/d, and that’s fine—it’s fun, but I wouldn’t base a PvE build around it just for Fresh Air.

D/F is the weaponset you want for fresh-air. The whole point is to move quickly between attunements, always going back to air to autoattack. S/F or S/D just doesn’t have the damage with auto-attacks to make attunement dancing worth it— you’ll almost always see these combinations using conjured weapons (lightning hammer) for actual DPS.

I think its only PVPers who use Fresh Air with S/D and I’m not really sure what they see in that. What D/Xers see in the Fresh Air build is the chance to spend as much time in Air autoattack as possible. Its the only strong ele autoattack and since it cleaves its useful as an AOE as well. Fresh Air lets you jump to another attunement for a heal, defensive skill or whatever else you need and then rush right back to autoattacking in Air as soon as possible.

NB: if you just go by the numbers on the screen the Scepter Air autoattack looks good. Those numbers are wrong, look at the damage log for the real numbers. If you doubt me just time how long it takes you to kill a mob with just Scepter Air autoattack and then try again with Dagger Air autoattack or a conjured wep.

Scepter is more about burst damage. With Fresh air you can set-up a earth-air-water-air burst. hurl 4k, stone shards 1.5k, lightning strike 2.5k*2, arc lightning start channel, water for small heal, back to air for 2.5k lightning strike arc lightning finish ~3k. That is a 2sec burst. Arc lightning just enables you to swap to proc effects easier to finish a runner.

No one uses just scepter air 1 by itself though, 2 and 3 can also be instantly cast while channeling it. And of course, raw sustained dps wise a melee range attack is going best a 900 range attack, that’s just the way Anet has designed the game.

It’s not that fresh air is only usable with scepter, it’s that scepter gets a lot out of it. If you think dagger’s fire/water/earth #1s are bad, scepter’s versions are beyond pathetic. Fresh air lets you do exactly what you say, use the 2-3 good skills in your other attunements then get back to your best attack in air as quickly as possible.
