Does the new damage reduction stack with protection?

From what i’ve seen, no, it seems to be protection will win out over the frost aura damage reduction, however i haven’t really tested this heavily so what i’ve been seeing may just be wrong.

Well that seems almost useless for me.

It would be stupid if it didn’t.

Since speed boosts don’t stack either and only the biggest effect takes priority, I think it would be naive to think anet would do anything different for damage reduction.

If they don’t stack I guess that is a buff for builds that don’t use earth. And a general buff for other classes as they pass through frost fields.

Tbh auramancers don’t need more defence :P

Considering the Guardian can get 43% damage reduction without the need for the aura, I’d definitely call it a mis-step if they didn’t allow you to stack it.

Also, speed boosts would become overly stupid if they could stack. Some people can already move 50% faster without the need for swiftness, have it stack and you’re just asking for trouble.

That’s both awesome and curious. Where does the other 3% come from? Am I missing something?

If it stacks additively, then it’d be 40% (probably this one imo), if it stacked multiplicatively, it’d be 37%. Not sure how it could be 43% though.

Protection reduces all damage you take by 33%, not 30%, so if you take 10% less from frost aura and 33% less from protection then you take 43% less damage, and i don’t think there’s anything in GW2 that scales multiplicatively. It seems to either be additive or it doesn’t stack.

Ah, that’s what I was missing. I thought protection was 30% for some reason.
