I just cant live RTL with being nerfed every patch to the usefullnesss state. RTL was the biggest reason why i picked up the Elementalist in early BWE’s and still is my main.Here are the nefs to RTL so far;

- You cannot use utility skills while RTLing
- You cannot use weapon skills while RTLing
- RTL goes down faster in air and you cannot close huge gaps in air.
- RTL cooldown went up 15 to 20sec.
- RTL cooldown went up 20 to 40sec if not hit
- RTL travel distance reduced 1500 to 1200 although we usually fix tooltips instead of actual skill.

I cant imagine what is left to nerf RTL further…

That many changes to a single skill shows exactly how confused the developers are. They don’t know what they’re doing.

It’s like a little kid going…

Nah, they changed smiter’s boon because it effectively made monks into damage dealers that could still heal fairly well in pvp. It was massively flavor of the month, so they decided to remove it from the game. Thankfully RtL is still usable, but this might be their attempt to get people to use focus or staff.

Patch 30.05.:
RTL travel distance reduced to 0, because it bugs half the time they change the spell to apply an immobilize to yourself so that the description matches the spell

Thankfully RtL is still usable, but this might be their attempt to get people to use focus or staff.

I use staff when I need to, but rarely when I’m roaming in the open field (which I usually am). Focus has absolutely fantastic defensive and CC capabilities, but it does not substitute for what offhand dagger provides. Need some compensation for the holes they’re poking in the class.

Ride the Lightning was my top favourite skill in the game since the first beta weekend, just for how awesome it looks, and making travelling across maps fun. Looking at how bad Elementalists are doing in PvE, I see little reason to continue playing on mine, sadly.

Meanwhile Warriors keep getting buffed every patch, even though they’re already the kings in PvE… sigh, maybe I should start playing one…

Meanwhile Warriors keep getting buffed every patch, even though they’re already the kings in PvE… sigh, maybe I should start playing one…

They look at PvP state and decided what they should do to PvE and WvW

I actually wonder who the hell made the decision to have the change smear to PvE. I mean, for Christ/Buddha/Allah/Amaterasu/Zeus/Jupiter/Odin’s sake, it’s Player vs Monsters, what harm can RtL actually do?

This is just a massive Quality of Life nerf for eles in PvE and WvW. It doesn’t address any actual problems in either place. RTL was fine before Spirit Watch, why nerf across the entire game just because of 1 spvp map?

Not only did they nerf it, they also bugged it…
If you use autorun, you will have to move the camera in order for it to start moving again.

I guess it makes sense in their head since they already limited the travel distance, i guess this is just another small adjustment to make us move even slower due to the occasional times you forget to move the camera

Future RtL:

RtL grants immobilized to you for 2s. If you don’t hit connect with your target, you are granted poison, chilled, burning, bleeding (8 stacks), and confusion (25 stacks).

Really though, if they wanted it to be offensive only, they should have made it 900 range on 15s cooldown. Then you can actually use the spell every once in a-while (rather than every 3 rotations as it misses more often than not). I don’t care if they wanted to nerf the bunker’s ability, but this just nerfs my fun, BIG TIME.

It takes a stunning level of incompetence to completely gut one of the most fun and not even remotely imbalanced PvE skills in the game. Congratulations arenanet, you just made your game less entertaining for no reason. I already didn’t play my ele much because my guard/warrior are so, so much better in PvE, but now that the character is significantly less fun I don’t see much reason to touch it at all.

Its probably easier to fix the fact elementists have to keep their inventory open at all time (to move around faster) by making RTL useless than by offering weapon swap out of combat (like the players asked).

Now I just wont bother changing to knifes when approaching a zerg, Ill just keep my staff.

Next patch, RTL moves you 600 range on a 1 min cooldown, direction chosen is random.

People complain about ele mobility anyway.

Next patch Firestorm aoe is limited to 1 enemy and has a 8 sec cast duration.

this is the most terribly thought out nerf. The most OP part of RTL was it was used as an escape tool. Here’s the problem…..I only need 1 RTL to escape after being in combat….so it does nothing to address that. The extra CD does nothing to prevent this.

All this nerf does is make traveling slower. Who cares? We’re not nearly as fast properly spec’d thieves/warriors. It’s just PvE anyway.

Want to make RTL more about offensive focused and gap closer? Up the dmg, reduce the range, reduce the CD. It should be a 900 range skill on 15s CD. That way, it doesn’t get you out of trouble as easily. It’s still great gap closer. It’s still useful for travel.

Great minds!! You probably didn’t read it, but I just said the same thing a few posts up. Its sad that 2 random people not paid to balance could have done a better job fixing the skill! Maybe they will do that next patch. Personally, I would love to actually have an offensive skill in air (other than autoattack) that could be available every once in a while.

The nerf reducing the range from 1550 to 1200 takes care of it being nearly as good for running away too.

RTL now crashes GW 2 and wipes your bios on your PC. Your computer will now only play twangy country music when you attempt to boot it up.

+1 to both of you then. This change would have actually FIXED something instead of breaking a skill that was already useless as an offensive option. Increased damage or AoE, and reduce the range and it’s a viable gap closer rather than an escape skill. Or add weapon swaps – but that might be OP.

Honestly, this wouldn’t be such a huge deal if we ele’s weren’t already so squishy and weren’t forced to use cheap tactics like RTL escape or mist-form heal just to be on par with other classes. Seriously…our health pool is a laughable 11k unless you spec into vit and u can’t get it above 18k without sacrificing all damage or defense.

I agree with this 100%. I’d much rather have a good damage gap closer that I can use more often than the abomination it is now which fills almost no role. Seriously, if anet wants us to only use it in battle then why can’t they make it USEFUL in battle? As it is now if a player so much as dodges my rtl I can kiss it goodbye for the rest of the fight and then some.

RTL changed to “Chase after the lightning”. When used, a lightning bolt strikes 1500 range away and your character slowly runs towards where the lightning hit at 30% of normal run speed.

Hahahaha!

How about: “Grandma to the lightning”
When used, a lightning bolt strikes 1500 range away. Your character is rooted while he/she pulls out a walker and begins hobbling toward the spot at 50% speed. Your skill bar is changed to 1. Shake fist and yell at them whippersnappers, and 2. Noxious AoE that requires a change of diaper.
