Getting into ele
I can’t comment about Staff but I have been using S/F to great success, albeit in PvP. However it does work pretty effectively in small groups but it depends on who you’re fighting alongside, I find warriors make great partners. You will want to go Fresh Air and the general trait set-up would be 06044. In PvP I play it full berserker however in WvW I recommend you add in some Valkyrie gear, I’ve met some eles who also mix in some cavalier with celestial but generally you want big burst damage and a small amount of healing power for sustain.
I use runes of the traveller because S/F is a very slow set however in a group with swiftness you should be fine. Rune of the Pack is a very viable alternative providing (I believe but don’t quote me) the second or third highest damage behind Runes of Strength. A small amount of boon duration is all you need really as unless if you stack might solo realistically you are only likely to get 2-3 blasts on a field with S/F. Potential for 5 if you land comet and dragons tooth…I leave the might stacking to my team mates and occasionally contribute here and there.
I’m sure some more experienced eles will help you more than I can too, I’ve seen Phantaram comment on here a bit and he is good with S/F.
You can find me in PvP | I normally answer PMs
Staff works well in wvw groups bigger than 5.
Sceptor dagger(SnD) works fine in duos to groups smaller than 10.
For that build , its the fresh air build and very glassy. But it can be very rewarding
DnD is a build for the pros. Works from solo to small roam grps to zergs, etc.
Stay away from DnD in the beginning if you are learning ele.
Thanks! I though cele d/d was the noob ele spec and s/f was the pro one? d/d is easy to play for me but I don’t see too many big numbers (I can kill things quickly, just not as bursty as s/f) and I feel a bit too tanky for my liking. Plus I’m not a massive fan of melee..
I guess s/f it is?
I use it on my ele in PvP. I know all the skills already, some nice rotations and am great in 1v1. Did some against my friends and the NPCs in the mists.
Traveler are too much for me atm.
I will probably get speed or ogre runes. Haven’t checked speed price yet.
What about sc/d?

The d/d being the “pro” build has less to do with it being d/d and everything to do with what people do with it (solo roam). Do solo roaming with staff, like I do, and you will see what leave you with a lesser margin of error when a thief appears out of the blue.
IMO, Staff is the best WvW weapon. Best has in, more useful overall. It is also very challenging, and rewarding (read fun you get out of managing well with it), if you want to go solo or in small groups. Ele is a great profession since it is so versatile. You will always be relevant in WvW in a way no other profession has made me feel, to different degree of course, and I have all professions at 80.
