This is just a bit of a rant really venting my frustration
aren’t you just sometimes getting tired of all the kittening rocket science u have to apply when creating or attempting any non meta ele build for pvp or wvw? like i have to kittening solve some kind of unresolved math problem.

Personally for me to create a viable alternative i have to litterally go to some kind of infinite maze just give it sustain so that it cannot be oneshotted and even then the sustain is still so mediocore that u have to kite like royalty to win a fight. u can never create an ele build that doesn’t have one glaring weakness that is exploitable. it’s always i’ve got to compromise this or compromise that to make it workable. if i want to give it enough sustain against pure power damage on pair withthe meta build. U have to sacrifice either a good deal of dps or condi cleanse. That would be acceptable if this was pre hot times where builds had more glaring weaknesses. It’s so ridiculous.

Honestly with warrior provided u are smart enough and mechanically a better u can make quite a few alternative builds that can reach platinum tier one or fight at low platinum levels.

Guardian has Meditrapper, symbolic avenegers, symbolics menders, core burn guard, dh burn guard, meditations builds.

and why does guardian have so many variations? because the bulk of it’s sustain lies in 1 traitline.

same with warrior. only defence is mandatory. Heck I even kittening created viable power and condi druid builds that i have my druid main test and it kittening works. weird thing is. I don’t even kittening play druid.

Heck mesmer has thanx to chronomancer so many active defences, gap openers. that u could go full dps and not even require inspriation.

etc. Why the kitten is ele sustain spread over kittening 3 traitlines+rune of the soldier+healing power? why is it earth for raw defence, water for condi cleanse, tempest for additional healing?

Man so frustrating. But it get worse. we all have the sigil proposisetion thread in where they are going to drastically reduce avaialble sigils which will hurt non meta builds more then meta build. And I know for a fact that when the next major balance patch comes after waiting for so many months. they are just gonna do some stupid cd reduction on skills u hardly use.

Something I kittening wonder how kittening hell it would be to play an fresh air ele or any kittening power build in a pvp match on a completely flat surface with nothing to hide against. It’d be kittening hell. because your sustain sure as hell will not suffice without kiting and jumping puzzles.

Jesus kittening christ.

I understand that u might not respond to this thread as i’m ranting but gokitten i needed to get this of my chest.

I’ve found it beyond frustrating trying to play a damage role in PvP. We simply lack the sustain, and, like you said, have to rely on god-tier kiting to go toe-to-toe with even mediocre players of other DPS classes. Even the old-school D/D Ele is extinct, and that used to be a perfect bruiser (except for the period where it got buffed to insane levels.)

Fresh Air can be fun, but IMHO its risk:reward ratio is way out of whack, especially when you compare it to other non-meta builds like some of the Rifle/GS Warrior builds running around.

The worst thing is, I can’t figure out how they can buff sustain without over-buffing the Tempest healbot.

The lesson I keep coming back to is: no, DPS is simply not viable, and you’re doing your team a disservice in most cases by not going healbot.

It absolutely sucks, and has ruined any enjoyment I used to get out of PvP.

Fear the might of SHATTERSTONE.

@pro

Fresh Air core ele perfectly describes the issues described in the op.
