Glyph of Elemental vs Asura D-series Golem
GoE off-course. The golem is a waste.
It really depends on the situation. I just started messing around with the D-Series Golem on my Thief, and the bubble shield it provides can be clutch in the right situation.
“Shield bubble – Creates a shield that reflects projectiles around the initial location of the golem. Lasts for 5 or 6 seconds and has a 20 second cooldown.”
The golem creates the bubble almost immediately when you summon him, so take advantage of the bubble and forget about him.
If you don’t need to block projectiles, then go with Glyph of Elemental.
How about when I need a tank besides the projectile reflect? Is the earth elemental a better choice or can the golem tank as well? The notes did mention that the golem has high vitality and toughness.

You are best of using the water elemental. Its not the best healer, or not even a decent healer, but it sure locks down your target and can tank much more since they updated the pets.
The earth pet tanks very well but its a waste unless you are PvD. But even for solo camp tanking, the water elemental can do the job.

I dunno… I feel like my Water Ele gets slapped around easily when I solo cap upgraded/special vet defended camps whereas with my Earth Ele, I don’t even have to worry about it.

no, it wont work for upgraded camps. Tried and tested. Then again, a fully upgraded camp is not something you can a3, then a4 and a5 into followed by f3 , f5 and f4 and then e2,e4 and e5 quickly followed by w4 and LF into with w3. Not easy.
I assume that’s a different weapon set since it makes no sense with staff (which is what I use). Hehe.
A fully upgraded camp is quite easy with staff (even with hyleks, etc). Hardest part would be making sure they don’t all swing at you at the same time.
Anyway, I think we’re derailing the thread.

Trying to decide between a racial elite and a non racial elite?
ALWAYS pick the non racial elite….. The racial elites are nowhere near as strong and usually have extremely long cooldowns. Now, if you’re strictly PvE and just want to use something to be different, go for it, but PvP wise, racials are pretty brutal.

Yes I realise that racial skills are subpar vs non racial ones, but you’re actually comparing a super elite (D-series golem) with the regular elite (Glyph of Elemental), so that part got me curious enough to make a comparison. Currently I have 27 skill points or so, if the golem is indeed better than the glyph than I’ll take that over tornado.

Anything is better than tornado. Any ele with tornado should be tied up
If I don’t pick tornado, I’ll have no underwater elite! x_x
But back to the original question; is D-series golem a viable tank and replacement for the earth elemental?
The elemental has better duration, lower recharge (if the elemental gets destroyed prematurely the total recharge is lowered too), lower casting time and can be cast while moving. Also, you can pick which one you need based on the situation and you can use a trait to lower the recharge even more.
To be fair, they could buff the golems quite a bit and the glyph would still be better.
Well that makes it pretty clear, thank you for the answers everyone.

use tornado. See enemys dying by fall. Lot of laughs.

If you can even do that. Tornado flings enemies almost entirely at random half the time. I find if devilishly hard to aim where I’m sending them.

If we could send them to out Ground target, that would be very funny to watch
Underwater whirlpool is fine. Its quite oped when you meet dumb players
i use the tornado as a stat boost when i’m up on a wall, nuking down on a zerg.
we have to do things others may qualify as “evil”.

Take Root, the sylvari racial elite, is quite a bit better than any of the Ele elites. 3 sec invulnerability and the 5 seed turrets do quite bit of damage. A great elite for solo or small group roaming.
