Hello,

so I was thinking about playing the celestial tempest spec in spvp with double daggers… What do you think about it? I see many prefer D/F, but I dont really like focus. Though it doesnt mean I wont learn it if I have to. I like staff, but I get bored of it sometimes. What is a man to do? :O

Higher mobility and damage at the expense of defense and support. It’s up to you.

Cool, I would suggest you to play with it, means, try different stuff, …what do you have in mind tho? as of traits and all … I am guessing you’ll be more like a selfish ele rather than support/bunker, right?

Focus is too good to miss out on, especially when u compare it to oh dagger. U must also look at the cele aurashares role (assuming this is what u speak of) and to achieve it ull need the defensives n utility focus gives during teamfights. U will drop fast when group focused, esp in yoloq.

Don’t forget about warhorn as well. I play a cele build and I prefer warhorn to focus or dagger. Its a nice balance between offense and defense. Not as mobile as dagger offhand, but you get way better heals over dagger or focus. Warhorn 5 in water attunement is a mobile water field that you can blast multiple times as well as water 4 which is a knock back and a heal.

Been trying WH with scepter or dagger, takes a bit to get used too, but not bad.

Miss the d/d, but in this meta and how Anet changed the d/d, just doesn’t have the defense and upkeep you need now. So much cc now it seems along with quick high damage from so many classes. If you do want d/d I would say earth/water/arcane. You need to have the defenses to be able to get in and out without getting cc death.

But it doesn’t hurt to try it, comes down to your play style, although seems Anet wants a certain spec for us ele’s.

I will also say in regards to warhorn, I’ve noticed that its far more fun to play it with action camera on. It helps make the targeting on a lot of the skills a lot less clunky

A lot of useful answers here, ty guys.

I guess I’ll give focus a try… Maybe except on Legacy. Mid fights tend to demand staff due to the size of that cap point. But other than that I feel like smaller fights are not the best place for staff. So dear D/F here I come…

What would be ‘the warhorn rotation’ (with dagger MH)? I’d say fire 5, water 3, earth 4, aftershock, earth 3 for fire aura. Ofc its not PvE, but still something similar must be the goal if I want to do damage I guess…

For Might stacking:

Fire Overload>Wildfire>Heat Sync>Frozen Burst>Aftershock>Sand Squall

Sand Squall last because it extends all your boons. If you’re taking Invigorating Torrents, you have a lot of boons on you.

Healing: Water Globe>Frozen Burst>Aftershock(>Sand Squall)

Poster above me know what’s up!! Only thing I’ll add is damage wise, air is the best DPS. So after mightstacking if you don’t need to heal go into air for the AA, air 5 and air 4, and then into air overload. Basically your rotations are gonna have to be a little flexible in PvP, because as a cele build your biggest goal isn’t damage unless your 1v1. Taking full advantage of sand squall and heatsync does allow you to maintain boons for a pretty large period of time. So you get some flexibility in your rotations

Yep, once you stack Might, you would go Air. What I do is cast Lightning Orb first, then use LW till Overload Air is off cool down. Cast Cyclone and Lightning Touch before Overloading; this lets you get at least a few Overload hits in guaranteed if your foe doesn’t have Stability/doesn’t use a Stun break. Use Shocking Aura while Overloading to discourage melee interrupting your Overload; if they still hit you, they’re Weakened by Lightning Touch.

That exactly what I do!!! Easily the best way to get air overload off without something like armor of earth

Ok, so after a few days of testing I still could not come up with a clear answer about this off-hand weapon dilemma…

Played a few matches both with focus and warhorn. And I find that warhorn is better in general… well almost. I find all the other warhorn skills better than focus skills except diamond skin. I dont have ego problems with some dirt napping if things work out in an unfortunate way. So I dont have emotional issues if I get ganked sometimes. But what about objective viewpoints? Such as: ‘Will it benefit my team more if I can survive being focused every 50s? Or will it benefit my team more if I can pump out more dmg, CC and healing but sometimes melt like a candle?’

p.s.: 2 things that may not be correct im my question’s context:

1. I automatically supposed that warhorn is better in every respect, except earth 5.

2. The answer to my question is heavily team-setup dependent imho, so giving a general answer may not be possible.
