Greatsword Elementalist
It’s our elite skill
I’d rather have pistols as our single target option…
Maybe I’m the only one…
I rather have a torch to be honest, need more off hand weapons :x
lv80 Necromancer, all professional skills unlocked, working on the final norn elite skills.
Pfft, as if Rifle Elementalist wouldn’t be the coolest weapon selection.
Icey Shot?
Molten Buttstock Slam?
Shocking Trigger Discipline?
Earthen Aim Down Sight?
The possibilities are awesome.
I want a sword. So badly. Even if it is a bit too much on the duelist side of the concept, which suits well the mesmer but not a pure caster as the elementalist.
Torch makes sense too.
A shortbow could be fine but we have frosty, which with a bit of skill tweaks would be perfect just as it is as a conjured weapon.
If an Ele can come up with an effective build that uses the Fiery GS please let me know. I am a ranger and ranger + Fiery GS = Possibly highest sustained dmg in the game.
Am I good?… I’m good.
cantrips give might + atunement swapping while fiery greatsword in hand gives 10ish might add to that the power you gain from having a fiery greatsword then go into pvp with a glass cannon full berserker style thingy and just go leroy jenkins with it. Also get the other traits that give increased power stuff.
Fiery Greatsword in a burst build works reasonably well. Also, you can comine the auto attack with Elemental Surge in water to stack a big amount of chill too.
elemental rifle please if only because it might lead to something with 1500 range :p
Ele GS = Every skill in every attunement is replaced with an identical copy of the Fiery GS elite :P
With attunement dancing you can now summon 80+ fiery GS’s to equip your WvW army with :P
Great for running away againt a big zerg, or to play against a lowbie or someone who is really bad, before killing him.

Why not greatsword? Because the game needs at least one or two classes who don’t use the bleeding greatsword.

This guy, right here, he gets it. Rifles have far more potential than another, “my blade spits FIAR!” In fact, most weapons have more potential. I’d take a mace over a greatsword, or a shield, a pistol, torch, or long bow. Far more fun to be had with those than the done-to-death greatsword. But Rifle, above all.

Technically, Staves, Foci, and Scepters are just as “done to death” as GS’s (all of them on 4 different professions). Swords and Spears are the most “done to death” weapons in the game with 5 and 6 respectively.
My point – why be satified until every profession can use almost every weapon? Swords, Spears, Greatswords, Rifles, Torches, Spellbooks, Orbs, Maces, Shields, Whips, and Bows all have a lot of potential on the Ele. Hell, just about everything does.
I do love the picture though.
Hopefully they give us whips in the next expansion. Nightmare Court whips look pretty awesome.

Ah, I meant “done to death” to indicate the amount which players use the weapon. Players have a natural inclination towards the Greatsword, it seems. Those classes with the option are commonly found using them. Staves, Foci, Scepters, and the like, while more commonly accessible, are less commonly seen. (Staves being a probable exception to that observation.)

To be fair to Mesmers, scepters are awful in PvE and swords are melee on a light armor class, leaving Staff as the only other real PvE option.
Greatsword is arguably the most fun weapon on the Guardian (though I prefer Hammer).
Rangers don’t lean towards them much – their Greatsword’s kinda blow anyway.
And most player interactions in open world PvE are farm-oriented, where GS and Axe/Axe are the most common choices because of their high AoE damage. The Warrior is the only profession that I consider the Greatsword to be grossly overplayed in.
Oh certainly, there’s a whole host of reasons why people like greatswords: consistently great skill sets which often include mobility, a lack of competitive weapons, brilliant legendary design, high visibility compared to smaller weapons, and the awesome factor. I don’t blame anyone for choosing a great sword, per se. But it creates a suspicion that all players would default to them, if given the chance.

I (used to) run Staff + Sword/Sword on my Mesmer, but all of my Mesmer friends run Greatsword + Something.
I feel so alone…
I’ll say it again, Rifles.
If nothing else, it would be the first time a Wizard Archetype got to use firearms in an MMO.
I don’t even care if its cosmetic, i want a rifle on my Elementalist. Or Dual Pistols, ala Arcane Tempest Gun Mages from Warmachines.
