Looking around in youtube I realized the official GW2 channel uploaded a PvE Video Guide for Elementalist. Talking about traits, what they think elementalist is about, and some of their though process regarding the recent changes and the overall objective of the class.

The video is 6 days old but I can’t seem to find any thread or discussion about it. If there is/was then my bad.

What do you guys think about what the devs have to say about elementalists?

we already know what they say about us. We are meant to be a “jack of all fails”, also it’s PvE very few encounters require any complex thoughts other than to dps and lazily move to the left whenever you see a red circle next to you and dps even more (overly simplified but I think my point comes across).

This is what I think that needs to be changed for an Elementalist to ever have any build diversity:

- Remove the Attunement swap cooldown reduction on Arcana trait line. Make it 10 seconds cooldown standard and replace it with an increase in Aura Duration. Also bring more access to Auras for Staff and Scepter(let every weapon setup have at least 2 Auras as weapon skill)

- Remove Lingering Elements(15 points Arcana) and move Arcane Fury to it. Increase the Fury duration to 4 seconds.
- Put Elemental Attunement on the 5 point Arcana spot.

These small changes, especially the first 1 will allow us to experiment more with different trait lines. Air, Earth, Water and Arcana are great trait lines but at the moment we are so stuck in Arcana that we simply don’t even get the chance to be creative with our trait setup.

On top of that, this will also give us the chance to experiment with Arcane skill builds. At the moment, Elemental Attunement and Renewing Stamina are simply mandatory for a close range Ele to stay alive. Putting Elemental Attunement as a Minor Trait will give us more room for Arcane related traits.

What I find most important is the cooldown reduction in Arcana trait line. It pretty much gives the class it’s strength. Being able to use your different set of skills on a faster pace brings out the philosophy of the developers about the Elementalist being versatile. Unless you play a S/D Fresh Air Burst Ele, you need the cooldown reduction to be viable.
The class needs to have a standard 10 second cooldown on Attunement swap.

Warriors had their useless second bonus of their 5th trait line changed/buffed, I think it’s fair to say it’s our time for a change/buff.

Can I turn off skill recharge too and have a dev menu?

Seriously, a pretty good video…but I would like to have seen footage of the dev playing exactly as a player plays, with other players and harder PvE content trying to kill him…

The video wouldn’t have been so smooth then…and lots of wp from dieing, well messing with his combo’s…
