Hamartia's S/D Builds Still Viable?
Maybe pve. Id not recommend anywhere else
Bad Elementalist
PvE only.
Although tbh, I can’t picture any good scepter build that doesn’t use Fresh Air. I would find some way to put those 10 pts into air and get it. Look up videos on ‘Fresh Air, Scepter’ and they will explain why Fresh Air is strong (PvE and PvP)
Character name: Azilyi
Oh those guides. The ones that unleashed the plethora of Eles that use S/D with no LH. Meh.
Regardless of what he says, make sure to use LH for sustained damage when using Scepter. Scepter’s sustained damage is just a whole new level of terrible.
Dkeys’ guide is probably the best comprehensive PvE Speedclear guide now for Eles. Look at it in the stickied threads in this subforum.
^completely right.
I cringe whenever I see sceptre eles with no LH. once you’re done with your burst skills (which you already do in the LH might-stack rotation), you only have some garbage autoattacks to work with.
to answer your question sirrealist.
This build is a S/X + LH meta build. But even if it use a powerful concept, its not the best build around to do that. Its pretty good, but still need to switch around. Like Neko said, take a look at Dkeys’ guide for clear and complete information on that kind of build.

Well TBH I can’t picture any good scepter build that use Fresh Air in PvE. In PvP its one of the best build i heard (not using my Ele in PvP so i don’t really know). But in PvE, scepter is a really ordinary weapons, usually use to stack might only, making Fresh Air useless.
Thank you all!
To clarify my situation, my main is a lvl67 Warrior that I play with my gf (lvl67 ranger). I now have 1-3 other friends who want to play with us, all of them new to MMOs. I’ve played WoW a bit, and my gf is new as well.
So, the idea is that I’m starting an ele that I’ll be leveling from scratch with 2-4 others, in order of how often i’ll be playing with them:
Gf Necro
friend 1 ranger
friend 2 warrior
friend 3 ranger
It’s a group that could die a lot, esp since I’m the most experienced. So, I’ve been doing a lot of reading on the ele, looking at builds, looking at strategy, and just trying to educate myself on the prof. I’ve read Zelyhn’s and Neco’s guides, and I’ll read Dkey’s next. We’ll be doing PvE almost exclusively, with dungeons as appropriate. I’m trying to learn what I should be doing as far as leveling, as well as being able to help my group as best I can. Right now, that means (1) staying alive and (2) killing mobs quickly. But, I’m learning about combo fields and might stacking, so I’ll try to do more of that.
I find I have trouble memorizing all the skills, which makes it hard to know what to do on the fly. This is made especially difficult by F1-4 being hard to reach with my left hand, so I end up sitting in an attunement. I’m only lvl 5 and still unlocking weapon skills, so this isn’t a big problem yet.
With my warrior, I JUST switched to a new keybind, from default to having 6=Sh+E, 7=Sh+A, 8=Sh+S, 9=Sh+D, and 0=Sh+W, where Sh=shift. That way, I don’t even have to take my fingers off WASD to do them. I hold RClick to control camera so direction, and WASD for forward, lStrafe, reverse and rStrafe respectively. I haven’t figured out where to bind F1-F4 yet.
So, what do you guys think on what I should be doing for leveling with such a group, with respect to:
build
weapons
gear/bonuses (power and precision vs vit and toughness)
sigils/runes
key binding
anything else I should be aware of.
Thanks!!!!!!!!!
Hmmm, based on your input, let me redirect you to my own guide then.
While it’s true that there are specialist builds for the Ele that maximize DPS and dungeon speedclear times, I think it would be an absolutely terrible shame for you to play Ele as just a one-attunement one-trick pony all the time, especially if just playing around and leveling the class.
Look at my own guide. I give a ton of rudimentary information on how to play the Ele, and look at the more beginner-friendly builds like the Water-Arcana one which will be useful if you ever go into PvP-style modes.
Bind your f-keys to something easy. Try Ctrl-A, Ctrl-E, Ctrl-D, and Ctrl-F. I feel that learning to get a feel of “dancing” through attunements is important for developing your general gameplay ability with the Elementalist. Really, sitting in one attunement I think gives a pretty narrow view of what the Ele is really capable of in general play.
Thanks Neko! I’ve read your guide (sorry, I referred to you as Neco in my post above). I take it you’re saying I should start by traiting towards the Auromancer build and move from there?
Just for practice. Don’t stay with it FOREVER (it’s a low damage bunkery build and honestly my guide needs to be updated to talk about things more in a general manner than a dungeon guide). But certainly learning how to use all four attunements is better for you as a player (even if a dungeon speedclear build might just be “summon a lightning hammer and press 1111111111”).
I must be missing something, because Neko’s Auramancer build only has 1 aura in it. Some things that don’t make sense to me:
1) Why called Auramancer? It only one aura. The name implies you’d be using auras a lot
2) Keeping in mind #1, why Zephyr’s Boon? D/F only has one Aura. It seems like Bolt to the Heart would be a better choice.
3) Powerful auras? Keeping in mind #1, wouldn’t cleansing wave or water be better?
4) Blasting staff? The build focuses on D/F, not staves. wouldn’t arcane mastery, renewing stamina or final shielding be better?

D/f has 2 auras on weaponskills and also you an get a fire aura from combo fields by putting a fire field and using earth 3.Also if you run with elementals and use the water ones they quite frequently place ice fields on the ground that you can blast to get the last aura.
All that said i doubt too how good powrfull aura is but its passable :P
Lastly the guide must be old and the arcana traits are 5 ,6 and 11
Before they rearranged the trait order after the last balance patch those traits would be elemental attunement, renewing stamina and evasive arcana !
I PMed Neko and he got back to me with this
I also spent a little time looking around and put this together
Thoughts?
Thank you all!
