Hardcore Thief goes Ele PvP video
noticed that you don’t always pop your auras. and you don’t use alot of blast finishers in your fire fields.
That’s all.

As above said, just blast the fields more is all.
PS: might wanna hide chat next time, cuz hotjoin is hotjoin
Yeah some might stacking issues. Also I noticed a lot of wasteful dodges in the beginning along with wasteful use of armor of earth and actually…lack of using cleansing fire. Not to mention the premature use of air number 3 (shocking aura). Sometimes you use it in inappropriate situations. Save those for outnumbered fights or thieves or classes that relies on melee. You tend to use it like 5-10 seconds before entering the actual fight itself. And remember…all skills heals you. So fire 2 will heal you too, so use it more.
ya figuring that out! fire field > 4th skill earth or dodge inside of fire field while earth attuned! can get 21 – 23 max might stacks during long team fights awesome!
and me so stupid didn’t even know that 4th skill Earth quake and that dodge roll @ end while earth attuned was a blast finisher!

yea. sometimes im using 2 trait on air for zephyrs boon. thought using it to gain fury then entering a fight and expecting for my fire to crit and burst hard! but i guess thats a terrible idea now lol
Your incessant kindergarten flaming in chat is something to be ashamed of but your gameplay was fine. I hope that no experienced Eles in here give you too many tips if I’m to be totally honest.
I for one am supremely salty that people are rolling FotM Ele now that they’re strong again. I kinda wish we’d stayed how we were pre-patch where only decent players got the results new Ele players are getting now.
I also main a Thief and have been playing Ele frequently lately. One thing I noticed is that you don’t make good use of Signet of Restoration when kiting. You should continue to attack as you will restore health.
I had this issue myself to begin with, I think it comes from playing Thief so long. Where you don’t want to break stealth by hitting anything.

you’re absolutely correct! thats prolly main issue of playing alot of thief then going Ele LOL still now i still forgetting to use #1 auto attack while @ low hp and running away or kiting

And that’s why we can’t have nice things… You have to realize how ridiculous you’re sounding.
I for one am glad elementalist is a viable pick now, and PvP actually has all professions in it again. There will always be something people can complain about.
Video was quite nice. Like others have said, lacking a bit on some ele-specific areas but good game sense.

In other words, continue being a kitten to people in hotjoin while running FoTM ele that’s insanely easy to play now and get good results.
Thumbs up!

Ele has pretty much always been viable though. Viable just means that it works reasonably well. Something can be generally considered bad or not meta while still being viable. Now, it’s just stupid easy to have good defense and good offense. Ele went from being good if you didn’t faceroll and played with a little intelligence to just being good. I consider the former to be a much nicer thing than the latter. Every profession and build in the game should at least strive to not be faceroll.
@OP
Initiating with rtl—>updraft is one of the scrubbiest things you can do on a d/d ele. I mean, you used it on an engi, took out about 40% of his hp then he got up and nearly killed you. That combo doesn’t burst or create any meaningful initial advantage against any halfway decent enemy.
If you’re fighting one ranged enemy and one melee enemy, you should pretty much always attack the ranged one. Assuming the melee player doesn’t break out a ranged weapon too, you’re guaranteed to hit both with some of your aoe while taking less damage by kiting melee and running circles around the ranged.

It seriously bothers me how fast people’s conceptions of certain things change. Feel like I need to put this down in hard text, pre-patch elementalist was NOT viable. That’s not a matter of opinion, just an observed fact derived from there not being any elementalists in tournaments, none high on either the sPvP ladder nor the tPvP ladder. What that doesn’t mean is it couldn’t do stuff, what it does mean is it was factually not worth picking ever. Don’t get me wrong, I still played it, did okay, but it was a handicap, and everyone was aware of it.
A few months later and everybody is reminiscing about ‘the old days’ where ele was ‘cool’. As I said, that bothers me quite a bit. For one that sentiment is not very mature at core, but more importantly it’s skewed as all hell.
Elementalist is more in line with other classes now. That means entry level players are not utterly useless with it anymore. It’s not by far the easiest or most effective build for a new player out there though.

Honestly, you believing what you’re saying is a fact is a pretty bad sign. You can only measure these facts with the leaderboards and the opinions of others. Neither of those is worthy of being the ultimate authority regarding what’s viable. Something not getting top results or not being used very widely used are signs that it isn’t viable, not proof. The correlation is not as direct as you make it sound. Do you even know exactly how people are ranked on this ladder that you’re elevating to such status? I won’t say much more because you’re making it very clear that your thoughts are purely factual while others are just being immature or changing their opinions without proper cause.
I only use updraft as a set-up for burning speed combos.

I completely agree with this. The sole reason that I ever even bothered playing other professions besides the elementalist which has been my favorite since gw1 was because I felt like I was lacking in everything, always the first to die and never able to properly defend a point. Elementalist wasn’t the only profession though. Right now the only profession that needs a slight buff would be the ranger profession not sure of it yet though. There are some good rangers out there just not very many.
Really. Ranger is the only one? I’m pretty sure I can think of a pretty obvious one that other classes enjoy using as a ping pong ball.

Yeah! Totally man! It’s completely illogical to argue that Elementalist wasn’t viable pre-patch based on things like “leaderboard results”, “tournament results”, “opinions of good players”, “meta comps” or “team queue comps” or “actual results”. Being viable means having the heart to BELIEVE IN YOURSELF, even if the facts of your performance prove otherwise! pumps fists in the air and cheers
