Having problems in HoT maps
You’re not the only one and I think this might have been an intented design. You got a first feel for this when the personal story 2.0 was released and some of the elites and bosses in their were doing sick amounts of damage to players in glass cannon gear.
If you are able to evade or set up protection on yourself with a build that might be wise. But you might also want to do yourself a favour and buy a cheap set of exotics with toughness on while you get used to the new content. These mobs do hit hard, and some of the mechanics they have are also nasty… even if they feel “cheap”.
I’m still on ascended zerk and, yeah, you can’t really make mistakes. It is a good practice though.
I am finally switching to Reaper. The content is difficult and tempest is the worst spec you can have as a solo ele. I find my character alone most of the time, and there are just no advantages to using a tempest spec in this scenario.
Running around Full Zerker is most likely the problem. I’m running Reaper (exotic Zerk) and also have trouble despite having RS. My main problem is the sheer amount of CC they dish out, and the vast differences in Mob strength. Like, Spiders? I can easily solo an Elite spider, no problem at all. Veteran Rider? Already a lot more difficult, especially with a Bow-Mordrem backing him up. Veteran Frog?… Yeah, no. Those are a PAIN. Shadostep, cloak, stun, shadowstep away, poison field, cloak… ARGH. And it’s not like they are alone, either.
All in all, I’m having a blast fighting these things X)
+1 on the zerk gear. I’m full zerk and getting owned when I slip up even once. Looking into adding in soldiers or minstrel stats, or moving to full celestial.
Actually wanna comment again here. After playing some more I think it was mostly my build and not knowing before hand what all the new enemies can do. Now that I do they are more predictable and easier to manage. I switched to a Fire/Earth/Tempest staff build and focus on getting defensive traits from the latter two so that I can keep using full Zerk + Strength runes. Slowly but surely getting back to being able to hoard small groups of monsters and AOE them down. Id advise you all to just keep at it and eventually you’ll get the hang of it. Dmg is still king
I’m really think of going full marauders(power, precision, vitality ferocity).
Yeah having some trouble here too and loving it! I do recommend getting the arcane shield when low in arcana, saves your life way too many times!
i am running full celestial wvw setup with staff and have 0 problems with anything so far (except champion hero challenges).
Raptors?
drop lightning field and meteor shoer on yourself done
the rest just drop aoes spamm dodges and water fiels and sometimes drop in a cantrip if you eat to many ccs
vs range frogs i either flame retreat away or use magnetic aura to reflect stuff back to them.
Stealth doesnt matter to aoes too.
but i am mainly a wvw players, so I treat the maps like a zerk fight and it works fine.

Running full Settler Tempest D/W auramancer and can take on just about anything. Can even solo some of the Hero Point Champions but my issue is I usually run out of time.
Prior to switching to a tanky support/condi Tempest I ran my glassy Sin burn D/D and it was tricky to survive some of the content. Have had a lot more success once I put some durability into my builds.

You’re just using the wrong builds. I have had no such issues on my Tempest.

Been running around on fully Berserker Tempest Ele and able to do things just fine. Need a bit of help when doing some Hero Points but most things seem manageable.

How are you using full Settler when there are no Settler rings/earrings of ascended quality. What do you use in their place?
I’m having a serious beef with the frog archers to be honest. I’m not bothering to try and kill them, I just run past and hope that I’ll make it. The same goes for those Mordrim archers. It seems like these archers are doing way more damage than their ranged buddies in the pre-expansion world.
I’m trying to learn to adapt but it’s really demotivating almost making it to a check-point only to die once more because you’ve been stun-locked by something.
It seems ok running through the maps on my tempest. But a few areas have wrecked me the hardest was the quest I can’t heal at all on soloing 5 hard monsters on 14k health was incredibly difficult. A few other areas have slaughtered me such as the archers who leave that flame line on the ground I’m dead instantly. I am mostly in berserker gear though that’s likely to change very soon to toughness. Overall the tempest is great for events but solo is another story. Course I played a Revenant at launch and kept being destroyed so I hopped to ele and my survivability increased in some areas.
I’m running cele tempest at the moment (water/air/tempest) with runes of radiance on d/wh and I feel like i’m the tankiest person around! Not only does that setup give you easy access to air overload and static auras, perma fury, vigor, and decent might stacks (leading to decent AoE dps, although obviously not on the same level as zerk staff by any stretch), it also constantly pulses insane heals! I very rarely even need to use WtPA, and when I do it’s a massive 8k heal with light aura to boot! The condition removal is also insane, but you can also swap to bountiful auras if you want to sacrifice the condi removal for group healing.
There’s also flexibility to change skills based on what’s needed. I find using the earth shout effectively nullifies any ranged enemies, since the magnetic aura uptime (easily 20s of constant reflect when using the shout, wh earth 4 and the earth overload) destroys them, whilst bringing in blinks ect. help against the rolling dinos.

From what I noticed on the new maps, the mobs certainly do tons of dmg but on other hand, they die super fast too (trash/vets).

Can you post a link to your build? I’m real curious about your “D/W Auramancer” it sounds really interesting.
WAY too many alts to list here.
0 problems on zerker shiro/jalis revenant and soldier scrapper engineer. Soloing some champions too Few monster exceptions but it’s a matter of simple adjusting.
Maybe it’ll change in dragon’s stand but so far so good. Liking the challenge.
Running D/D ele in a mix of exotic/ascended celestial and the content is tough but im doing pretty well. I absolutely love the Air overload. I spam it every chance i get. I hardly ever have to even leave air.
Air Overload
Glyph of storms – usually they are all hurting pretty bad here and i just clean them up
Tornado
Healing/might stack rotation
back to air.
