Alright, so don’t know if it is just my current build or what but condition engineers always seem to ruin my day. Most other classes I can usually 1v1 successfully but I just fall apart against a good condition engineer. Is there a good strategy or build for dealing with them? They can lay on conditions so fast and frequently that my condition removal is rendered inadequate, and my tiny hp pool melts so fast to conditions (poison doesn’t help since it limits my healing). Furthermore I usually can’t burst them down fast enough due to all of their invulnerability and stability skills, and presumably beefy build (which complements condition damage). Is this a known bad matchup or is there a good approach to dealing with them?

As for my build I’ve been running d/d with standard 0/10/0/30/30 traits, and berserker amulet (at least for hotjoin, where I don’t feel like just guarding points). My utilities are mist form, and 2 of earth armor/lightning flash/arcane wave.

The thing about engineers is they are 1 trick ponies… with about 3 tricks. Get them to waste their tricks, ride the lightning away, then come back in and smash them.

No offence but that is a horrible way of fighting a 1v1.

If you really want to beat a GOOD Condition Engineer, then you need to play it safe and really focus on removing the Confusion because that is the condition where most of their damage comes from. Even though Burning will do allot of damage aswell, most Engi have 2 or more sources of burning, so trying to keep that off you is not worth it.

Ether Renewal, Cantrips(including Cleansing Fire) and the Cleansing Water trait are extremely useful.

The Engi Toolkit(Prybar) is predictable. Magnet animation is extremely easy to notice and has a long cast time. So you should be able to avoid that.

If the Engi is using Bomb kit aswel then use your range. Don’t forget that most of the D/D skills have longer range then their bomb radius.

Try to keep your Mistform off cooldown, you will need it when the Engi drops it’s Elite. Don’t underestimate the turrets, a good Engi will be able to finish the fight fast if your Cantrips and especially Mistform are down.

Good Condition Engineers are the most challenging and for me the most fun class to do a 1v1 with because they can really push our class to the limit. You REALLY need to utilise and time your Condition removal.

PS: if you just want to troll ’em, learn to use a focus.

I haven’t really had problems against them but I haven’t played for over a week, and the explosion of HGH has only recently begun.

What I do against their Supply Crate is killing it with Burning Speed and Churning Earth. Yes, those are skills that could have landed on the engi (try to hit both) but the supply crate needs to be killed asap.

They don’t have tons of invulnerable. They have 1 (unless traited but most people don’t take this) just like us when using D/D but theirs is on a slightly lower cooldown. They also barely have access to stability so you can use CC against them and that’s probably the best way to go.

Most often the thing that kills you is burning, especially with semi-glass build. So either grab cleansing flame or stop drop and roll.

@vinceftw or you could kite away from the crate? lol. Learn to dodge better, which means roll one and learn their abilities so you know what they look like, what the rotations are and which abilities you actually NEED to dodge as opposed to dodging when you see something coming. Case in point, Engis that use the crowbar will use the pull first which has a semi-translucent line connecting from them to you, but if you can see it, you should dodge it immediately and kite and you will negate a lot of damage. I know it sounds weird for a melee to kite, but you have to do it from time to time in order to survive some of the more gimmicky classes. Also I have found most engis dont guard against conditions, so landing a good CE will go a long way in most cases. Still, easier said then done obviously
