Hi, I really need help from Experienced Elementalist

-I played Elementalist for 4 years on GW1
-she was my main and, I love elements and I tought that in GW2 my main will also be elementalist —-even though they were pathetic as hell …I RLLY LIKE ELEMENTS

SO NOW my Elementalist as my MAIN
-it’s hard and boring and so far I succeded only to get to lvl 40… boring utilities, boring gameplay (their conjures, signets and Arcane LMFAO)
- I have top rating available armor for my lvl (most toughness/vitality and then a bit of power)
- I am lvl 40 and I can’t get a pathetic lvl 27 SKILL POINT
-they sidekick me to lvl 28 and my Elementalist is freaking useless

Main tought with what I need help …

  • I am lvl 40 in lvl 25-35 area. I use Offensive(Power, Precision) build, I’m DEAD. I use Defensive (Toughness, Vitality) build, I’m dead. I tried all weapon combos
  • I can 1v1 lvl 27 (thankfully -.-") …but I can barely survive 1v2 …. 1v3, Bye Bye

If there is anyone out there who can help me and advise which:
-Weapons
- Armor ( which stats)
-Traits (lvl 40 means 30 trait points ONLY)
use, I would be extremely grateful

My Elementalist is my main and she’s lvl 80. I do not find it hard and boring at all. I’ve done most of the stuff by myself, including skill point bosses. Oh and I did this wearing greens and blue drops that I picked up as drops.
For pve and spvp I use scepter and dagger and for dungeons and WvW I use staff.

If you’re having problems taking down two mobs at the same time then you probably don’t move around as much as you can.

Btw, I played an ele in GW1 and it was my favorite class and didn’t find it pathetic at all.

In all seriousness if you find so many things boring about the elementalist then it’s probably not the class for you.

I’ve stuck with the earth stance for tougher fights, using the scepter for ranged damage and the focus for stoneskins and shields. I’ve managed to solo all my personal storyline with these specs to 52, with the help of two earthen elementals (the regular summoned one and the elite one). Pair that with the earthen armour spell (passive is protection, active is a root for mobs), and the whirlwind sandstorm, plus the stun you get with scepter, I’ve managed to get all the skill points and zones without any major issues.

Like you, I’ve specced myself out with toughness gear, which means a slower fight, but I keep standing

There are so many things that you can do with Elementalist that it can sometimes be overwhelming. I would suggest sticking to one weapon and becoming very familiar with each of the attunements for that weapon and what they do. I would say in a 1v3 fight you will need to change attunements a number of times. Remember to use dodge at the most opportune time and remember what escape options in each attunement. So start out in a one attunement use the escape abilities from that and go to your next one. When you go into a fight have a plan and try to use your combos, for example using a staff I almost always start in Earth to use Eruption to combo normally with Lava font to give me Might, then swapping into Air to get some Chain Lightening damage in on all targets and dropping a glyph of storms at a convenient time. I also will use Static Field to keep one of the enemies at bay if necessary. I would drop back into Fire or Water depending on the situation (Healing or More Damage) and so on…
Hope that helps…

Oh sorry, you missunderstood me …..sooorry
1st…I RUN LIKE HELL , I rlly try to avoid , but they have AoE ….soo ..a bit harder (who gave Trolls AoE + Daze -.-")
2nd …. what You missunderstood is that I LOVE Elle from GW1 ….this one is pathetic

Don’t get me wrong ( again XD) ….Elementalist ROCKED during creation and at its reveal …but all of these new nerfs and changes rlly made it a tinny bit BORING

I loved original Water Magic Skills and Conjures, but after changes …nahh

By original I don’t mean GW1, go to *GW2 page about elementalist and there are 5 videos at the bottom. Water Magic was more offensive and lesser heal, and Conjuring was REAL conjuring, not just som weak weapons XD (not in videos)

Seriously? Elementalists are OP. You have 4 elements with each weapon that allow you to change tactics for each encounter and there is very little in the outside world that you cannot solo with Water as you continually heal yourself as you kite. The only things you cannot solo are the boss mobs and ranged elites…that no one should be able to solo.

Pick your traits according to your play style. Nukes for fast damage so you can kill quickly or heals and HoTs so you can solo bigger mobs. Save your glyph of elementals for when you need a mobs off you fast so you can gain ground to continue kiting…and that I where I think your problem is.

Learn to kite…you can take on a ton of mobs at the same time with a staff and lightning because it bounces off of three mobs…then you have gust to blow a mob away from you, windborn speed to gain distance…and static field to stun them to once again gain more distance…heck, most mobs you can kite just by running in a small circle.

Personally, I am only raising fire and water traits, more fire than water because I prefer to nuke…but sometimes I like to heal. Adept skills are 6/fire for more +10% damage and 1/water for +20% skill recharge. Master skill at your level should be 7/fire for +20% recharge.

But mind you, I like fire and water the most so I am using traits on them…adjust to YOUR playstyle. So, learn how to kite, then kite with the different sets…and chose what you like the most.

I share Pangie’s sentiment. My main is a lvl 80 elementalist, and I’ve had fun with it all along. Admittedly, it takes some getting used to. Here are some tricks I’ve learned running PvE, PvP and dungeons :

- Learn to dodge, and keep moving. Most of your abilities can be used/cast while moving.
- Switch attunement often to keep your opponent(s) CC’d and the damage rolling. Remember that we have the advantage of 20 skills at our disposal. There are even traits that give us boons when attuning to elements.
- Most weapons combos have pretty much equivalent utility, slightly favoring DPS or defense, but the important part is to learn all the skills and use them effectively. Take the time to read them, and you will discover nifty tricks.
- Along with the previous point, select your utility skills to better complement your weapon skills, and counter your opponents’ abilities.

There’s a lot more involved in playing GW2 effectively, but that will come with thought and practice.

My elementalist is level 48. To the OP, it sounds like you may be a bit behind on gear. When you get downleveled, if you have outdated gear, that affects your downleveled state. In other words, if your gear is only level 35 at level 40 and you get downleveled to level 25, then your gear will be as if it was level 20 or so. Make sure you get your gear up to date.

Also are you stacking power or condition damage? I have found that on my staff ele, the power does more for my overall damage than condition damage does. Are you switching attunements regularly? The more I have played my ele and learned to make use of all my attunements the better I have gotten and my survivability has climbed considerably.

I am no expert, but I had a similar experience in my 20s and that is when I started really looking at how I was playing the class.

here is my tought:

first of all i play elementalist and i’m lvl 80. Keep in mind that i have played this game during beta and i have played pretty much all classes.
Bottom line – i LOVE ele, it’s freakin’ awesome. Dont get me wrong by me saying this, most of elementalist issues comes from lack of elementalist gameplay knowledge. Elementalist is glass cannon i.e. it has HIGH dmg and very LOW surv if you dont know how to use it (not saying that you dont know but hey…). You really need to use ALL attunements in order to bring your ele to max potential. Other thing, why to hell you using toughness/vit gear???? I got my elel to 80 and still playin full power/precision/crit dmg gear…..mobs tend to die before they can reach me, and even if they do there is allways earth atunement with 2 sweet ccs and lightning atunement also with 2 ccs. Ele, if executed properly, is unbeatable even vs more then 2 creeps on you.
Someone said, and was right, what you cant kill instantly you can allways kite.

Basicly, my pointers are:

- get high power/precision/crit dmg (berserker’s) items
- use ALL attunements
- kite if needed
- in dungeons wait for someone else to start fight and try to hit only one creep at the time if you dont know how to avoid getting hit
- if all else fails you got 2x dodge (with traits in air you can have endurance refiling faster while you channel your “1” in lightning = more dodge)
- dont bother and dont waste money on toughness/vit gear ( had to stress this one!)

Main thing I’ve found with my Ele is that you “HAVE” to stance dance if you want to be effective. You can’t just say “I am a water elementalist”, you have to use the appropriate stance for each situation.

My Ele is close to level 40, and by far my favorite class so far.

As many have said, you will HAVE to stance/attunement dance to be most effective.

In addition, I think it’s very important to familiarize yourself with all of the stuns/knockbacks/snares/cripples the class has available as well as their cooldowns in order to properly cycle them. For example, I generally use a staff when PvE’ing, so that means I have a free dodge w/ damage in fire (skill #4, uses no endurance), a chill snare in water (skill #4), a knockback/down and stunfield in Air (skill #3 and #5, respectively), and an immobilize and cripple in Earth (#5 and #4, respectively). I also usually run w/ Signet of Earth as one of my utility skills, giving me an additional 2s immobilize. Cycling through all these movement impairing effects will generally give me plenty of time to kite away while they hobble along barely touching me (also, be sure to strafe away from mob’s at a near 90 degree angle for maximum movement speed, backing up is a no-no unless you’re trying to get them to run through one of your AOE fields).

As far as traits are concerned, I’ll leave this up to you but I feel that EVERY elementalist should have at least 10 pts in Arcane to get elemental attunement asap, i.e., free might in fire, free regen in water, free swiftness in air, and free toughness in earth. You’ll be stance dancing a lot, so why not get a free boon when doing so (not to mention, 10 pts in arcane lowers the cooldown on stance dances).

Best of luck

Ele is not OP, and I find solo leveling boring as you have mentioned. I’m around 50 and what I do is spec into the fire and water trees that way I get decent power and also vit and healing for staying alive. Be sure to move around a lot and use healing when necessary. Also to keep things interesting im switching weapons pretty often when out of combat to keep things fresh. Utilities are incredibly boring you’re right, we need both arcane spells, our damage doesn’t compare otherwise. Where I find the elementalist shines is in group play. Whether dungeons or WvW. It’s very fun to use staff and be able to damage and put a wide range of conditions on enemies while being able to switch to healing my team mates, which we can be very good at.

Frankly I wish they would remove or change the 2 arcane utilities, buff our normal damage, and then replace them with something more interesting and less lazy.

Thisprofession is not underpowered. I am level 65 doing level 67 hearts with ease. My play style is D/D 20/10/10/0/15 so far and it works great. Solo’d all my story mods, and also solo’d mobs up to groups of 4.

Maybe just keep changing your build until you find one that suits your play style because that worked for me.

I use dual daggers.

My usual tactics are:

Solo mob:
Switch to fire or earth (others are nice too but these two have DoT conditions – burning and bleeding). Now run around your mob and use your skills as they recharge… switch between attunements as much as the difficulty of the mob requires. Basically autoattack on earth can do it – just stack bleeds and wait.

Tough solo mob or a group of mobs:
I open up with earth. Use the number 3 skill to pull your self to the boss (or in the middle of the mob group). Hit skill 4 to knock down the enemies. Hit 5 to start charging curning earth (name? the super rock spikes skill). As the enemies get up, activate arcane shield (or mist form… or whatever utility shield you want). Once skill 5 fires off, I quickly tap skill 2 (lesser spikes) and dodge out of the mob or away from the boss. Alternatively you can switch to air and use the skill 5 to blast out of the mob and knockback the enemies as well. At this point I’ve stacked plenty of bleeds on the mobs. So I can either switch to fire to apply some burning and aoe damage, or water for some heals and chills and aoe. I also use arcane blast for aoe critical dmg – also used while charging churning earth. By the time you bail out after the earth combo most mobs will be at around half hp or nearly dead in some cases… boses probably not, but they will be bleeding for a while.

Most mobs can catch up to you, but more often that not they stop to attack you, and the attack animation takes a while – enough time for you to get out of the way, not dodge out… just regular running.

You do not turn your back to the mob though, because you cannot cast this way. You have to run around and keep stacking conditions/keeping the pressure up.

I recommend the healing skill that has a passive heling effect for every time you cast – works well with dagger main, since dagger auto attack is really fast. Keep in mind that if you activate that skill, the passive effect will go away until it recharges, and the active heal is less than other heling skills. So you really gotto master kiting and DoT’ing.

My main is also a level 40 ele. Not sure what to say, I have a blast with him and usually the staff is my bread and butter. It takes a lot of movement to solo with an ele but I can do 1v3s and 1v4s with a lot of movement and element switching. I LOVE the greatsword elite. I suggest you mix up your weapons and try different utilities mix it up, its always nice to find new combos.

Lvl 70 ele here and I love soloing 5+ mobs. Even when I go down I immediately rise from my incredible torrent of damage. You just have to find what suits you best. This includes weapon sets, style of play, utility skills, elite skill, traits, and even whether or not the elementalist is what you should play here in GW2. GW2 and GW1 are so different that you may find that another class suits you better here.
