Can Staff be built for high regen/vigour while maintaing high pressure and can down any one 1v1 with either condi or power?

Power is your best bet. The only way u can gain vigor is through an arcane trait (gain vigor on critical) or water trait (cantrips grant regen and vigor). So either put 20 into arcane or 20 into water and use one of those traits. The only condi staff really has is fire 3 (single target might be good if u stack condition) and earth 2, which takes too long to proc. Try a 0 20 0 20 30 build.

Staff is generally not an ideal weapon choice for 1v1, IMO.

Its best options for 1v1 is letting you CC the other person long enough to run away. :P

You will get wrecked 1v1 unless your opponent is very bad. There’s not much you can do about that.

But generally yes, power would do you better than conditions because staff is slow and hard to maintain bleed stacks with.

If you want an offensive staff build you should be thinking more AoE and team based damage, because the staff has next to no single target attacks and most of your high damage attacks are ground targeted. No sane person will stand in your ground targeted AoEs unless they are very much distracted or are trying to stand on point during a team fight.

Basically with a staff in spvp your role is to sit off point when you can (When you have allies already on point to cap it) and spam AoEs on that point to severely punish enemies who are trying to stay on point. In WvW your role is to sit in the back lines and use your AoE and to pressure the enemy zerg/defenders/invaders into breaking and to limit their maneuvers with your crowd control options like Static Field. In both scenarios you’re effectively a living piece of siege equipment. So keep that in mind.

It could work, you’ll need to take traits for defense ( or utilities) because staff lacks in that department. Your best bet would likely to go with Cantrips, and if you want damage as well I’d suggest going 10 into fire for the Spell Slinger trait.

Staff can be pretty good 1v1 once you get the hang of it, CC is key for killing anything with the staff, and luckily the staff has a ton of CC built right in.

Isn’t that the main problem of all our weapon sets? (Healing isn’t defense)

Dagger has some good Defense, but it’s Melee range so it’s mostly negated and Scepter has some AMAZING defenses but are all really Ranged based and worthless against Melee…. Staff can keep most Melee at bay for a while, but if they’re super mobile (like a thief) you run into issues…. Oh yeah, and Dogged March makes warriors stupid strong vs Staff now, they used to just be destroyed.

My thought is you should nut up and go full on Conditimentalist

Works with staff as well. Lead with Signet of Water Chill to get them to blow Condition removal. Follow up with Signet of Earth Immobilize → Eruption → Shockwave → Fire → Lava Font → Flame Burst.
