I saw a Charr wielding electricity and throwing it around, killing mobs.

Looked it up, and it seems like it was a D/D Elementalist in Air attunement.

It looked so graceful. I suppose there’s no hope of being effective while just staying in D/D Air?

Nope. Personally I love the lightning whip, IMO the coolest attack effect in the game. But I use it only when waiting for the heavy hitters to cool off… it’s good against multiple targets if you can aim it well.
Ride the lightning is a great escape tool. And updraft as well. But D/D Air is not about damage and if you want to be effective as an elementalist you want to use all the elements all the time anyway.

eles close range die fast, mages in all games are weak in close range, ele is not warrior or guardian who are meant for close range combat, nay1 can avoid close range attacks, not all attacks but enough to beat D/D ele, i have seen videos

a close range ele that knows what hes doing will not die fast………i have seen videos……
