How are ele's right now?
I don’t mean this in a negative way, but you seem like a very casual player. For casual play, ele is perfectly fine. If it’s what you enjoy, play it. It’s only at higher levels of play that the imbalances become a real problem.

I have plans on participating in WvW season 1 if not more, will that really affect anything, or is WvW really not a factor since its not exactly “spvp.”
Season 1? LoL, I didn’t realize I was being televised… what network?
In dungeons, I love having an Ele. Pulling bosses or groups of foes to a wall then using FGS right melts through stuff.
And Lightning Hammer gives comparable damage to Warrior

FGS is able to do more DPS than a warrior can do at the moment.
It depends on the tier you are playing. In t1, you can always hide behind the zvz and use staff, in the lower tiers not so much.
anyways do yourself a favor and play another class. Playing the ele is like being the only one forced to do long division (for example) while everyone else has access to a calculator. Ya, you might feel better if you do better than those who used a calculator, but why would you risk it. (chances are unless the ppl using calculators are dumb you aint going to do better than them).
This is an mmo forum, if someone isn’t whining chances are the game is dead.
I see, alright well I guess I get the feeling that ele’s are strong, but require an extensive amount of work and as someone noted I am a bit of a ‘casual’ in gw2 at the moment so I will hold off on the ele for a little bit until they get a little more love.

Ele is great for wvw. Staff (the weapon of choice for wvw) is a fantastic control weapon with solid dps and support to back it up, and it’s even getting buffed soon. Staff eles are considered essential for many aspects of wvw. It’s true that elementalists have to push more buttons than other classes, but that is actually a plus for many people.
I’m hugely critical of anet, especially in regards towards their handling of the elementalist class, but the fact is, for a casual player who wants to pve and wvw with a large group, the ele will not disappoint. It has a different playstyle which you may or may not like, but don’t let the balance concerns turn you off.

Eles are just dandy in WvW. I’m a fairly mediocre player and I get by just fine with ele.
Trick is to:
a) begin thinking of your attunement swaps for the buffs they give you (elemental attunement trait, in particular, every build picks up) instead of just what skills they open up
b) realize that any instant cast (this INCLUDES attunement swaps) will not interrupt channeled skills, and that while you’re channeling Churning Earth for example you can also swap to water and use Frost Aura to reduce incoming damage
c) learn your combos, especially might for D/D
ALL that said, if it seems too complicated for you to want to work with, guardian is a pretty straightforward class that packs a ton of utility. I have one at level 61 and I really enjoy her as well, so I think that’s a good choice too.

Basically, pick the class you enjoy.
Personally, I find the elementalist exceedingly weak, having a glass jaw even with full tankyness, limited number of weapons meaning you’ll be using the same rotation again and again because massive cooldowns, and just a generally poor class design. I also find conjured weapons to be a gimmick that uninterests me.
The Guardian is widely regarded as one of if not the most powerful, balanced class in the game. I also find them quite boring. I can’t really give you a reason, I just find them that way, though that may be my fault for not exploring all their options.
I find necromancers tolerable. They have a speed signet so they aren’t slow as molasses. They have decent build options (which are about two, because two builds are better than some profession’s zero) with a focus on either power or conditions, though there are many minor variations, much like the Guardian. They’re also widely feared and respected. They aren’t particularly sought after in dungeons, but then again, no professions other than warrior, Mesmer, and guardian are.

I read the word “balance” in that link without any un-nerfing of elementalists, therefor it is typical BS garbage fluff from anet and not worth reading.
